to be fair as an artist I really aspire to be like Hayao Miyazaki and dream of one day making my own short or feature film regardless of whether it ends up in theatres or not because I just love drawing and music and would really love to live doing what I love
I think that’s what everyone strives for. You gotta checkout JaidenAnimations and Odd1sout. They living breathing example of that being done using TH-cam! I’m a huge fan of both
And Miyazaki needs to distract himself that he is old (he's over 80) and that he will die eventually in a few years. Having a routine that fills your days, you create something people love. And Miyazaki is I think quite free to do whatever he likes doing (as long as he includes his typical Miyazaki elements). It's a hobby, not a job.
I guess it makes sense if you're a kind of superstar in your field. People love you and you love your work. It's not like with most of us regular folks who may or may not like their job more or less, who are happy when work is done and who are kinda looking forward to retirement. Also I guess if your job, for Miyazaki it's obviously creating great animation movies, gives you joy, pleasure, meaning, distraction, you will continue. Maybe he doesn't really know what to do with himself every day for 16 hours. Honestly this would be a horrible thing for me and I'm not even half his age! I struggle in life with knowing how to spend time, if I have too much time, I sometimes get nervous. Miyazaki basically gets acclaim for what he does automatically. People love him and what he does, he loves talking about that stuff. It's super rare to have such a thing happen to you in life, I would probably kill to figure out what I love, be creative and challenged, put in the affort and then people loving what I do. That must be amazing.
In 96 Disney made an agreement to help distribute the films internationally and outreach Japan. And since then it's gone up from there. They still have complete creative freedom. It also seems like that is a large reason why they're able to get such huge dub voice actors.

I don't understand, how Hayao Miyazaki is related to Disney?
