My theory is that the rainbow dog thematically represents a dog dying and leaving its owner. A big part is the rainbow imagery. You talked about all these points in the video: the rainbow dog doesn't have an owner; as Blue becomes more like rainbow dog, she spends less time with her owner; the rainbow theming reminds me of the idea that when a pet dies they walk over a rainbow and wait for their owner to die as well.
“Looking at Blue’s age she can’t possibly be a puppy” MatPat if you’ve ever met a dog owner you should know that regardless of the dog’s age their owner is still gonna refer to them as a puppy
@@dennisbeaman958 Blue has always been a girl, even way back in the first season Steve uses she/her pronouns when referring to Blue. And going off that Magenta Blue’s pink dog friend, is a boy
Fun Fact for MatPat and The Theorists: There was actually a dog named Bluey (yes like the show) a female Australian Cattle Dog born in Australia in 1910 who lived to be 29 years and 5 months according to Guinness World Records. While being an anomaly, this is still really impressive and I figured I'd share. On the tangent of kids shows, and the running theme of dogs, I highly recommend Bluey (the show this time) when Ollie is old enough, it is truly a good watch no matter your age. Also, I need a theory about the functionality of cats in the Bluey-verse because I can't be the only one to question it.
Bluey is a really good show not only for kids, but for adults and teens. (I'm an example) I would very much reccomend it. It also has some very nice messages in the episodes, and is very entertaining. There's alot of theories in the Bluey fandom already, I wonder what MatPat would come with if he ever made a theory.
@@keisen5876 I just think this is the Bluey equivalent of Anthropomorphic Earth from the sonic games. They have all the big Aussie brands like Bunnings, which they renamed to Hammerbarn.
Speaking of Bluey on a Blues Clues video, anyone else find it weird that theres two kids shows featuring blue dogs named after the color that are girls, but often mistaken for boys?
I still can't believe I legit teared up at that one episode when Bluey made that friend camping and they spoke different languages but we're still able to play and create those memories and when they came back those years later to the tree they planted and you just hear "Bluey..." with the accent 🥹
At least Ollie is watching quality kid's TV. I grew up watching the original Blues Clues. I've seen all the hosts, Steve and Joe when they sat in the red chair. And I have to admit, I love the new Blues Clues. I don't watch it a lot (because I'm 20), but watching a random episode is fun every so often.
My favorite theory comes from my stepdad who is convinced that the reboot takes place in an alternate universe from the original because key events (like Periwinkle moving in and Magenta getting glasses) happened both in the original series and reboot. Honestly not a bad theory imo.
Another piece of evidence is that in an episode of the original series, Blue manages to put a pawprint on a cloud, and even Steve himself questions how Blue managed to get a pawprint on a cloud.
I mean, she’s managed to put paw prints on sound, light, and plenty of other metaphysical stuff. It’s very possible that she’s just a fucking god who wants to be friends with Steve.
Every episode they put out they're hinting that the release of the 4th channel is getting closer. I'm so excited to see what this new channel is about, keep up the good work Theory team :D
You don't need to worry too much about the second one, unless it's something *really* bizarre, confirmation bias lets people find proof of wacky things all the time, you just need to look hard enough.
If I had a nickel for every time Matpat made a theory about a dog being an alien, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot, but it's weird it's happened twice.
Steve didn't leave for college. He joined a secret organization to combat the alien puppies and returned for a brief moment in time to gather Intel and report on how powerful they grew.
I think MatPat needs another dose of optimism that he got for Moana since he went from "alien dog with teleporting abilities will one day grow up" to "and these dogs obviously will use their teleporting hub world to dominate the world instead of any loving, peaceful intention like the ones they express in the show."
I only now noticed that the amount of likes on this comment about pets is 626. Just like a certain character that actually IS an alien. I’m sure you know who I’m talking about.
It's like the Walten files video where he says "and she's wearing every security guard's favorite color, PURPLE. " and points to what another commentor describes as "the reddest outfit I've ever seen".
So to recap, Blue is 1) Blue 2) Trying to pass as a dog somewhat debatably well 3) Able to morph, growing and hiding additional digits at will 4) May at some point be capable of human speech 5) From space I would like to motion that Blue and Stitch are similar, if not the same, species
@Will N the term "primary colors" isnt normally used to refer to mixing colors in light tho. its used for the mixing of pigmints, and the term goes back to the 17th century, and either way, hes wrong because orange is STILL not a primary color
@Superlad94 Dye is still based upon light though, dumbass. As that is all that sight is. Interpretation of light. Though Dye or more specifically PIGMENT, not dye...... Colors mix different than direct light, PIGMENT is still based upon light.
I love when Matpat says "Why has this not raised any alarms for people" and I'm Just thinking how only he takes these minor details in a kid's show seriously
Nope my husband and I will point out things like this in the shows our kids watch. Like pj masks those kids never sleep. Paw Patrol , who decided that dogs should be the rescue service and is this how the town is spending their tax money? Spidey and his amazing friends, do the adults really not hear that the spider kids sound like their kids? Cars, where do the kid cars come from? How does a car die when they get parts repaired? Ect ect ect.
@@pokemon101red Do you think the cars in Cars would be upgraded as they age like in Robots, naturally grow and replace their car "shells" with larger ones like hermit crabs, or they're just stuck the way they are? If so, where would they do it and how?

So, Blue seems to be a very powerful reality bender. Not only that, but she is also a meta entity. Meaning that she can literally jump into and influence media, at least visual but most likely written as well. This makes her a very dangerous anomaly.
Matpat probably won’t see this but I would just like to say thanks to Matpat for teaching me more about gathering information and consolidating them into a coherent argument better than all the English classes and argumentative essay combined
I really think the one aspect that _doesn't_ fit is just it being dark. Really just seems like all Blue and Co. want is to play and have a good time with people, sharing their magic to go on fun adventures. And it seems like Blue is just as likely to be magic as an alien, somewhere around what Clifford is.
True, just because Blue, Magenta, and Rainbow Puppy are 'cataloguing' locations to which they can skidoo, doesn't mean they want to take over anything! Maybe they just love the places they've been and want to be able to revisit them! They could just be curious and happy to have human companions willing to teach them what they need to know~
@@thesymbiotenation.4552 It's my understanding that he grew big because of all the love his owner, Emily-Elizabeth, gave him as a puppy. The theme song of the cartoon said as much.
Since you’re going down the anthropomorphic dog route, I’d like to suggest a theory on Bluey. Because, for a show about a happy dog family, there are a lot of theories. Here are a few you could look at or take a deep dive through: - Bandit, Chili, and Lucky’s dad are in a polyamorous couple - Chili had a miscarriage before having Bluey - Chili’s sister, Brandy, is infertile and can’t have kids - Chili’s dad was in the Vietnam war - Bandit and Chili separated for a bit after the birth of Bingo. This is why their parenting styles are different and Bluey starts to panic when she sees them arguing in an episode - The obligatory, “Bluey takes place in a post apocalyptic world after all of the humans died out” - Why can the dogs in the Bluey universe own cats? Why are only the dogs sentient? And my personal favorite one: - Why does Bluey’s evolution mirror our own? In the episode “Flat pack” (I believe), we see Bluey and Bingo go through the stages of evolution in their play. They begin as fish, then frogs, then lizards, then dinosaurs, then mice, then monkeys, then “cave dogs,” and then finally evolve to be civilized beings who can build stuff. That’s as much as I can remember anyway. So, if their evolution mirrors ours, did they evolve alongside what would have been humans/human-like creatures and beat us out for the top of the food chain? Did humans ever exist in this world’s evolutionary past? What elements of the past animals do the dogs of Bluey still have? Clearly they walk on two legs and have opposable thumbs like monkeys. Would it even be reasonably possible for all of those animals to slowly evolve into a dog? I mean, in our world obviously not. But this is a theory channel and I wanna know if all of the elements could possibly come together to form dogs.
A few of these (like Chili's dad and sister) are pretty concrete, as in they aren't spelling it out because kids watch it, but as adults we can put those events togeather. The polyamory one I don't see being a thing (though I'm not 100% caught up to the latest episode so I may be missing context for this) and the miscarriage one seems...possible while also being the most vague on if it was them a friend or just their knowledge of what this was about to do to Bingo (possibly saw Chilli's sister in that moment going through the same thing which puts 2 theories into 1.) All in all I say leave Bluey up to a different channel, but don't rule out Matt getting the urge to tackle kid shows like Bluey and Blue's Clues in the future.
I never knew Steve returned for a couple of cameos! Since the actor explained his distaste for the idea of being on a kids show with hair loss, I figured he'd avoid it unless speaking exclusively to first gen viewers as adults. I got a kick out of the show stylist's solutions. Rofl Thank you to _Blue's Clues_ for never letting me forget the order of our solar system's planets... nor Pluto.
@the Basilisker Overseas, mostly. Back in the year that he left, however, I remember it being rather new and as pricy as any major cosmetic surgery. What's certain is what he repeatedly discussed in stand-up and interviews: at least during his last season, he decided he wanted to leave before any bald spots could be visible on camera. Any further reasoning/analysis would just be speculation on my part.
Well the Sun's a hot star. Mercury's hot too. Venus is the brightest planet, and Earth's home to me and you. Mars is the red one, and Jupiter's most wide. Saturn's got those icy rings, and Uranus spins on it's side. Neptune's really windy, and Pluto is so small. Well we wanted to name the planets, and now we named them all.

Not gonna lie, I was OBSESSED with this show as a kid. I was probably a little too old to be watching it by the time I stopped watching it, but it was my sort of safe haven from my not-so-great childhood. And hearing Steve and Joe sing the “Blue Skidoo” song really just took me back. Thanks Matt for this great video 💙
I like how they mention the spice family, and I agree, paprika as a baby is downright adorable. I mean who wouldn’t be adored by our favorite characters as babies?
I guess I want to add into the theory that Steve knows more about this with Blue than anyone else since he manifested Blue first. With him knowing Blues odd age theres a chance Steve understands Blue isn't an ordinary dog and Blue probably tells Steve all about it since he understands his language.
I was the same way with the Hollow Knight theory! And then I played Hollow Knight. After talking to my friends who have beaten Hollow Knight. After watching Mossbag's video on that theory. Yeah, not all MatPat theories work, but they're always interesting and entertaining to watch.
@@robbietheweirdo i mean, the world domination this is a bit far fetched, yeah, but are you really gonna say that blue is a normal or real dog, even after seeing all the proof in the show that says otherwise? He TWO literal ORIGIN STORIES say that she is not a normal dog, that she appeared one day (once from a blue moon, and once OUT OF A BOOK), and she has super powers.
I was obsessed with Blue's Clues as a kid and her being a beagle feels like foreshadowing that I now have beagles as an adult. It makes me love the show even more now.
This all becomes much more terrifying when you remember that in Blue's birthday episode, Steve Skidooed out of the show, without Blue, into a child's living room and brought a clock to life. If Steve, a caretaker, has this much power, imagine Rainbow puppy realizing they're on a show and coming into the real world.
... hummm... this makes me wonder... what if blue is Actually an evolution of a Human? like could the rainbow puppy have been a previous care taker? maybe steve and the others were abandoned alien children and their parents sent blue and the others to find them, help them evolve into their Actual form... i don't know... it's late and my brain is just sort of free floating around my skull. XD;;
It's not a bad thought, but I don't think Blue would evolve into a caretaker, or the other way around. My reasoning for this? Blue's ears. She is often seen using her ears as arms, carrying objects with them when she chooses to stay on four legs.
Blue and Scooby Doo aren't dogs, the minions aren't minions, the dinosaurs from Jurassic park aren't dinosaurs, the cars from cars aren't cars Next he's gonna tell us Peppa isn't a pig
If I had a nickle every time MatPat started a video by saying a well known cartoon dog was an alien and that this was not even the theory but canon, I would have a Doofenschmirz quote.
I loved watching the original Blue’s Clues and then watching the spin offs where Blue would be in her room and she was a talking puppet. I thought it was the cutest thing ever and it made me super happy as a kid to finally understand what it was that Blue was saying
The nostalgia of hearing everyone's voices after so long just hits different. Especially the blue moon episode. I remembered I loved to watch that as a kid because that was when blue started to talk.
Can’t really remember much of the show, mostly due to me being born in 2006, roughly around the series’s ending. Thus, I wasn’t able to watch much of it. What a shame.
I don't know if Blue and the others are necessarily malicious, but the POTENTIAL for using that power for evil is there. In this era of remaking old cartoons and shows in a more adult way or making isolated movies with very out-of-character adventures, I could totally see someone trying to access the skidoo ability for malicious purposes. Maybe in a plot where Rainbow is being used or followed and the gang have to get to Rainbow's level to save her. Idk, maybe it's fanfic material. I'm glad Blue's Clues is still going with a reboot. I remember when Steve left the show as a kid and I was confused why they had this new dude instead, but now that I'm older, I like our third host and the updated storyline continuing. Why is a salt and pepper shaker family so compelling?
You mean Green is nit a primary color? "No. You get green by mixing the primary colors Blue and Yellow." But I don't see a Yellow slider on my paint app. XD I will agree on Orange, tho.
I have a theory: Blue came from the Blue Moon, she discovered her skidoo powers, and went into the book after hearing about a young boy wanting a dog, so she skidooed into a book and it got sent to Steve’s house But hey, that’s just a theory, A FILM THEORY!
Also, starting with Meet Blue's Baby Brother, Blue's Room became an entire house and Joe was living there. Blue's Room took over the entire world. And the rainbow theory still fits since her little brother Sprinkles has rainbow spots. Pretty much everything from Blue's Room era was retconned in BC&Y, yet in BBCA, we see a puppet ahow featuring Frederica, a character that was created for Blue's Room.
I feel that MatPat should make a theory on bluey. For those that don’t know, it’s an Australian slice of life show about a family of dogs, with scenes insinuating things such as infertility, alcoholism, and miscarriages.
Well actually a Australian Bluey TH-camr has already been doing those Theories AKA Conspiracies'. Here the link to her channel right here: www.youtube.com/@aussiegirlmargie
Speaking of puppy kids shows, I hope MatPat does a theory on Bluey. Cats and other anymals exist as animals in their universe, and so do fairies. Not to mention that they say they need sunscreen and repeat semi often that they learn to bark and shake off water.
so, some dogs do need sunscreen! dogs with light fur may need sunscreen in sunny weather. my dog has apricot fur and our vet advised he’ll need sunscreen because of this. granted, it’s not the same stuff we use. they’re like wet wipes? Heelers wouldn’t necessarily need sunscreen, because they have coarser fur 🤔 but yeah, just thought you should know 😊💜
It seems to be the same theory for a bunch of cartoons where all of the characters are animals but there are "lower life forms" in the show that end up being pets, like in Peppa Pig.
I thought the same thing. The lore behind each character and their relationships are neat too. I hope one day the do a prequel cartoon of Bluey with her dad, Bandit, as a kid.
This genuinely, GENUINELY makes me enjoy this show a whole lot more. I don't care if it's all rubbish and that MatPat is grasping at straws or whatever (i don't think he is but I can see how someone could get that idea from this video), I honestly love the idea that an alien race desgised as dogs are trying to take over the Earth by getting information about us while desgising their game of Blue's Clues as a children's show. Also, Thanks for taking me down memory lane MatPat😊. This was a show from my childhood and was one of my favourites mostly because blue is my favourite colour and I love a good mistery. I guess that's why I like your videos so much. Been watching your stuff since 2013😎. Rock on fellow theorists🤘!
I like how everyone in the show doesn't even care about what is happening, they're all just completely fine with it like it's something completely normal.

A lot of shows similar to this from that time were just about "the power of imagination". It isn't that Blue was a dog, it's that Blue was an imaginary friend that happened to look like a dog.
One part of this video that just annoys me is when mat names the three different hosts and adds a little comment saying “they’re all wearing primary colors”. Is he colorblind? One person is wearing green and another is wearing orange, those are not primary colors

I have dogs, but I would never call them puppies past them actually being puppies. That is weird.
(I'm an example)
I would very much reccomend it. It also has some very nice messages in the episodes, and is very entertaining.

My favorite theory comes from my stepdad who is convinced that the reboot takes place in an alternate universe from the original because key events (like Periwinkle moving in and Magenta getting glasses) happened both in the original series and reboot. Honestly not a bad theory imo.

Since you’re going down the anthropomorphic dog route, I’d like to suggest a theory on Bluey. Because, for a show about a happy dog family, there are a lot of theories. Here are a few you could look at or take a deep dive through:
- Bandit, Chili, and Lucky’s dad are in a polyamorous couple
- Chili had a miscarriage before having Bluey
- Chili’s sister, Brandy, is infertile and can’t have kids
- Chili’s dad was in the Vietnam war
- Bandit and Chili separated for a bit after the birth of Bingo. This is why their parenting styles are different and Bluey starts to panic when she sees them arguing in an episode
- The obligatory, “Bluey takes place in a post apocalyptic world after all of the humans died out”
- Why can the dogs in the Bluey universe own cats? Why are only the dogs sentient?
And my personal favorite one:
- Why does Bluey’s evolution mirror our own?
The polyamory one I don't see being a thing (though I'm not 100% caught up to the latest episode so I may be missing context for this) and the miscarriage one seems...possible while also being the most vague on if it was them a friend or just their knowledge of what this was about to do to Bingo (possibly saw Chilli's sister in that moment going through the same thing which puts 2 theories into 1.)
All in all I say leave Bluey up to a different channel, but don't rule out Matt getting the urge to tackle kid shows like Bluey and Blue's Clues in the future.
That sure is interesting m8
Wait, what? What the heck are they doing down there in Australia?

I don't know if Blue and the others are necessarily malicious, but the POTENTIAL for using that power for evil is there. In this era of remaking old cartoons and shows in a more adult way or making isolated movies with very out-of-character adventures, I could totally see someone trying to access the skidoo ability for malicious purposes. Maybe in a plot where Rainbow is being used or followed and the gang have to get to Rainbow's level to save her. Idk, maybe it's fanfic material.
