    Thanks for the video. I have the same problem. I have searched everywhere for a video or some kind of info and luckily I stumbled up on this one.

    What did you replace the spout with? What was the brand of the original spout? I have a 1940s American Standard spout with a rear diverter that I cannot easily remove. It works fine when I periodically spray WD40 into the opening and onto the shaft of the diverter pull mechanism. The shower is not used often so maybe that is why this works. I'd still like to replace it someday but probably won't go to the length that you did. Enjoyed your comments.

      New spout I got is Danco rear diverter spout from either Lowes or Home Depot costing about $10 I think and it has worked fine. Not sure what brand old spout was.
