    Very welcome new series Peter! I know you know Barry Harris so I am certain that what you teach comes from the best source and will be authentic and faithful to the tradition. At the same time you are one of the best to simply complex concepts for us beginners/intermediate pianists so go on like this!

      Thanks Franscesco, glad you like this, always great to get feed back. You're absolutely right about Barry Harris, his piano method is great, I would also highly recommend books by another great in the world of Jazz Education, David Baker. His books How To Play Bebop 1, 2 and 3 are also excellent and are available on Amazon (they're very cheap if you buy them on Kindle). Ive just uploaded the second video in this series and there's plenty more to come!

    Simple and easy to understand, can you create more patterns using progressions, 251 major and minors

    So as long as the line is 8 notes and starts on a chord tone, it doesnt matter which direction you play in it will always come out right?

    • @peterbeadle1
      @peterbeadle1  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes but remember that the idea is that when you’re playing in eighth notes you want to land chords notes on the downbeats most of the time. So as long as you start a line on a chord note on a downbeat then you can change direction at any time and the chord notes will always fall on the downbeats. If you do play a non chord note on a downbeat then there are strategies to get back on track such as playing a syncopated rhythm, making the non chord note a quarter note, introducing extra chromatic passing notes etc. This can often happen when you change from one chord to another, say dominant to tonic, note that this isn’t a problem when changing from chord 2 to 5 because the same bebop scale is used for both chords. Hope you find this helpful🙂

    This is a really good playlist you put together. Nice bite size chunks to get down before moving on. Thank you!

      @@peterbeadle1 It’s great. I spent an hour or so today descending from each chord tone in all keys to get the feel of the bebop scale. Fingering sure gets tricky sometimes. Any tips for that? I found that you can get away with just the first three fingers for most of them so you don’t have to think so much.

      @@rickrocketts183Hi, The fingering can be tricky because we’re all so used to playing the major and minor scales and the Bebop Scales have an extra note. Also sometimes there can be more than one “correct” fingering. I’d try to use the thumb plus 3 fingers with the little finger just being used sometimes at the top of the scale in the right hand and I do think it’s a good idea to work out a fingering and stick to it, thinking about which fingering to use when soloing will interrupt the flow.

    I have really been enjoying your bebop video lessons! Do you have an “overview” generic chart identifying all the “modes and/or scales” available to play over each of the diatonic chords ( identified by I, iim, iiim, etc)

      Thanks so much Im really glad that you're enjoying the videos. I haven't got a chart to hand but that's a great idea for another video. I'm already working on the next video in this series but in the one after that I'll happily do that and use Roman numerals as you suggest.
