One of my favorite films by James Stewart. James Stewart returned to Harvey on Broadway in 1972, followed by a TV movie, that year and on the London Stage in 1975.

Probably my father's favorite comedy. So I heard about "Harvey the Rabbit" on a frequent basis quite some time before I ever saw the film. So he was more like an all-out folklore character than a character in one single story.

I heard about this movie through the tv show Farscape. The protagonist John Crichton often makes references to pop culture, and when the antagonist, Scorpius (Wayne Pygram), puts a microchip into Crichton's brain a clone of Scorpius that exists solely in his mind is created, whom he dubs "Harvey" when confronted by it.

I saw Stewart recreate the role on the London stage in 1975.

I love this movie. I posted quotes from it on the walls of my office for my employees.

Very much a favorite of mine. Also points up an error in Roger Rabbit. One of the "drunken reprobates" in the bar scene tells Judge Doom he saw the rabbit then introduces him to his friend Harvey. Though no actual year is stated it's evidently set in the late 30's and the play didn't open until 1944. Artist license I guess.

It's weird that this video just came out because I'm currently in a production of Harvey. I play Dr. Chumley.

My understanding was that Frank Fay, the original star of the play, was seriously considered for the movie. But when Jimmy Stewart starred in the national tour and then moved to the Broadway production, Universal lost all interest in Fay.

Did Frank Fay marry Barbara Stanwyck?

Donnie Darko has been my only exposure to that director. My movie going habits have dropped to near zero over the past few years......which is a little ironic since I work at a movie theater. I guess it's just aversion therapy. The last movie I watched was the last Terrance Malick movie To The Wonder.....probably the worst movie I've seen in a very long time. After Tree of Life my expectations were very cool.

Is Harvey a relative of Frank from Donnie Darko?

I was late in coming to find an appreciation for Donnie Darko myself. I am not much of fan of Jake G. My own broad interpretation of the movie is that it is a dark version of It's A Wonderful Life. Instead of seeing what world would be like had the character never lived, DD gets to see all the tragic events he sets into motion when he should have died in that accident. Instead of Clarence we have Frank. My favorite line in the movie regards the mice feces. "Whats that?""Baby mice.""Awww."
