  • With the help of my smart wife, we won a top quality golden Kronos EPG (Electric Pick Gun) from Multipick!
I also review the EPG to see if it's any good (and it's great!).
    Thank you multipick!

Congrats mate! Very creative of you both, and awesome score!
I guess you have to be pretty precise lining up the blade to hit all the pins at once, or maybe not with all the vibrating.
Also is it easier using bottom of keyway tensioning? I'd assume so, so you have move room to get it straight at the top, and it doesn't send the tensioner flying out as easily.

Thank you mate! Yea I'm very glad to own one.
I thought it'd breeze through every lock, but that's not the case, and it can even damage locks if I do it too much, but still it's awesome as a first try if someone has locked themselves out (and I guess that's why locksmiths use EPG's so much).
Yes the idea is to keep it straight, but I found with some locks, if it's a little bit higher at the back then it works better (as long as everything else is straight) ... it depends on the lock. Or maybe I wasn't holding it straight to begin with.
Actually, instead of vibrating, it is whacking the pins ... it just does it so fast that it buzzes :D :D
Good question about the tensioning, yes if I can get away with it then bottom of the keyway works the best.
Sometimes bottom of the keyway takes up too much room and the Kronos tends to over-lift the pins. It depends on the lock and how much room there is. Ideally there'd be lots of room and the blade would contact the pins only on the up-swing instead of already lifting them a bit.
Also, one of the locks in the video had so much turning spring tension to overcome that I needed to start with a fair bit of tension, which is not ideal as the pins should be free to be whacked up (whereas when tensioning it binds some of the pins), but the Kronos is so strong that it can overcome a fair bit of tension! ... that and also I tried to "catch" it by quickly increasing the tension. Anyway it was more comfortable in some locks to use top of the keyway tensioning.
With the lock in the video I was wondering why I couldn't open it until I realized I was probably picking it lots of times but not tensioning it enough to turn it!
Kronos also sells a turning tensioning tool, that looks like a ring, and they provide a long blade to go through that and still reach the pins. Usually it gets in the way of single-pin picking, but for the Kronos it would be ideal ... that's the next thing for me to save up for I guess :D
So in summary to your questions, yes you're right on both counts, but sometimes it depends on the lock.

Ya, you got to be careful using EPG's, especially one as powerful and well made and the one from Multipick. You can destroy the lock by turning it into a pile of brass dust to never work again !! (I think it rapidly shaves away a lot of the keyway warding)

Thank you for the advice! I learned that hard way with one of my locks. Such a powerful & quality tool as you say - something I have to get used to. Thanks once again - cheers!

I think it tends to work on cheaper locks with low security. I find that if I slowly pulse the tensioner from very loose to a little bit loose I get more success (but of course I have to overcome the turning spring of the lock, if any).
