I agree. When he asked Dean out I was hoping that he don’t upset him by holding up his song and when he wished him a happy birthday I thought that was just beautiful.
ROFL at the farmer sketch!!! Can barely imagine how unconfortable must've been to be wet in soap and then got to dry quickly to put the tux on (and ripping it off at the end :p ). HUGE thanks for these shows!

I was too young then life happened . And here I am watching like the first time. Loving it takes your blues away. In love wit them . They have my heart forever.
@ 10.24, I noticed an intriguing ‘6 degrees of separation’ connection between Dean and one of the actresses that Jerry mentions, Helen Hayes. Some twenty years after this sketch aired Miss Hayes appeared with Dean in the film ‘Airport’, for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, playing a sweet little old lady who is really a stowaway on the plane that Dean is piloting.

sophie75 Jerry (as usual!) probably overdid it and went further than he was supposed to, but seeing as they had the oar all ready and someone pulling the tub offstage at the end, that was obviously how the sketch was meant to end. But as a Brit brought up on traditional British music hall and pantomime humour, when Dean said that he’d lost the soap and started fishing about in the water, I was waiting for the classic line “that’s not the soap!” But I guess that would have been a bit too risqué for a 1950’s American audience!😲🙀
If Jerry didn't overdo it often, I am afraid they wouldn't have had the success they actually had! The team worked because of their chemistry! So Jerry knew exactly what he was doing as well as Dean!
Mary M Oh, I agree with you about their amazing chemistry, at least in the early years before the relationship started to deteriorate. But I don’t know, sometimes when I watch these old shows it seems to me that there were times that Jerry got caught up in excitement of the moment and maybe went a bit further than was originally planned in the script. Of course there was always a lot of ad-libbing going on (by both of them) so it’s hard to tell for sure, and in any case the end result was often very funny. But a good example of what I mean was in their soda-fountain sketch, where Jerry is covering poor Danny Arnold with loads of ‘wiped’ (whipped) cream and fresh fruit. At one point Dean whispers something to him, and Jerry says; “I’m having fun, don’t tell me that’s enough!” Of course, the shows were live and I feel that maybe Dean was concerned about over-running ( you can sometimes see him checking his watch and looking offstage, perhaps at someone telling them to hurry it up)
Yeah...Jerry was a force of nature lol . I agree that he did sometimes get overly excited! I think that at least in part it was his personality and his younger age, but I also feel that the stage was everything to him at that point in his life. It was an outlet...maybe the only outlet he had! They were both extremely talented! Two very different talents who were absolutely made for each other! Life happens, other interests develop etc..it was time for them to go their separate ways...however, there will never be another couple like that ...it's just not possible!
