- Another evening of railfanning at Gaithersburg MD, circa May 2008.
First, an eastbound coal train led by a CW44+SD70AC are assisted by a Brunswick helper consisting of another CW44+SD70AC duo. This was either a Baltimore or Benning coal train. Listen to that stack talk come from that GE as they shove by!
Next, a long Q416 rolls west to which our helper set will have to follow west either to Tuscarora or Point of Rocks.
The fourth movement is an eastbound autorack train behind a pair of C40-8s. This was usually the time where Q276 made an appearance, so it may have been that train.
Now, westbound coal mtys that had been held at Derwood for that previous eastbound to cross over to track two puts the hammer down through town.
Another eastbound coal train storms down track two, assisted by the Brunswick helper again, where they will cut off east of Derwood.
The final scene is the helper set returning west a second time up the Metropolitan Sub after shoving the two eastbound coal trains.
A good bit of action, and a good bit of dispatching kept everyone moving that night. You don't usually see anywhere near this frequency of trains through here anymore. Enjoy!
