Two Railfan Afternoons at Derwood (2007)
As best as I can tell, this video was taken on two afternoons in May 2007. Lots of action on the CSX Metropolitan Sub then. Here's the play by play;
An eastbound train of covered hoppers is seen slowing at Washington Grove MD behind an ES40DC/SD40-2/CW40-8. Jumping ahead, the train is pictured at a stop signal at Derwood to meet Q139.
The next footage is from a day or two later as eastbound P030-23 is seen from the Montgomery County Liquors spur.
Eastbound P884-23 is seen during it's deadhead move back to WDC. P873-23 then makes an appearance, followed by P891-23.
D782-23 from Brunswick pulls up to a stop signal at Derwood behind a pair of GP40-2s to meet P029-23 pulled by four engines. D782 then pulls to continue their trip to Benning Yard in DC with scrap gons for Joe Smith.
Next, Q415-23 behind an ES40DC and C40-8 crest the hill and enter the Derwood Dip. I let the tape roll for this one.
The final train is Q400-22, westbound with three engines and some fallen-flag rolling stock. Enjoy!

มุมมอง 108หลายเดือนก่อน
Two trains recorded at the old Liquor Warehouse switch at Derwood MD on August 6th 2008. The first train is P880-06, the final morning inbound MARC train. The second train is Q751-06, the Millville-Bladensburg Rockrunner led by four yn2 GP38-2s. The lead unit is #2788, an engine I would become quite familiar with as a CSX engineer.

An Afternoon of Passenger Trains at Germantown; 2008
มุมมอง 222หลายเดือนก่อน
Westbound MARC (and Amtrak P029) at Germantown MD during the summer 2008 from various angles. I loved watching the GP40 rebuilds blast off from station stops, and the overhead bridge was the best place to be!
An Afternoon of CSX Freights: Germantown MD, 2008
มุมมอง 288หลายเดือนก่อน
During the summer of 2008, we spent an afternoon at Germantown MD where we caught SEVEN freight trains in just a few hours. What made it more interesting was that all of this was during the afternoon commuter rush! Those trains (MARC and Amtrak) will be uploaded separately. Here's the play by play: First up is an eastbound coal train. Second is Q400 pulling hard westbound. Third is an eastbound...
An Evening at Gaithersburg; Feat. 2 Coal Shoves
มุมมอง 138หลายเดือนก่อน
Another evening of railfanning at Gaithersburg MD, circa May 2008. First, an eastbound coal train led by a CW44 SD70AC are assisted by a Brunswick helper consisting of another CW44 SD70AC duo. This was either a Baltimore or Benning coal train. Listen to that stack talk come from that GE as they shove by! Next, a long Q416 rolls west to which our helper set will have to follow west either to Tus...
Code Failure on the Metropolitan Subdivision
มุมมอง 239หลายเดือนก่อน
On Wednesday May 21st 2008, a portion of the signal system on CSX's Metropolitan Subdivision went into code failure between Bucklodge and some point east during the afternoon. This resulted in some slow railroading, but allowed for some easy chasing of Q261-21, along with some shots of other trains that day. We begin with Q261-21 led by an SD50 & CW60AC at Washington Grove. Leapfrogging the tra...
Evening Railfanning at Gaithersburg; May 2008
มุมมอง 57หลายเดือนก่อน
A short evening of railfanning at Gaithersburg MD, I believe in May 2008. First, the distant horn of an eastbound loaded coal train is heard while a westbound led by a pair of C40-8s cruise through town. This was a Baltimore train, so it may have been Q341 or Q343. Following that train, a pair of exConrail SD40-2s lead a mixed freight. I think this train had come up the RF&P. Following those tw...
Railfanning at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds; 2008
มุมมอง 117หลายเดือนก่อน
During the summer of 2008, my friend Brian and I watched some trains from the west end of the Montgomery County Fairgrounds siding in Gaithersburg MD. A tied-down D022 crew waiting for a taxi ride back to Brunswick allowed us to hang on B36-7 #5900 to watch some trains. First up is a westbound MARC train with ONC dispatching in the background. Followed by mty SEFX coal cars with a brand new Gev...

More amazing content thank you
YESSSS the classics 🎉
Ringing that bell like a Salvation Army Santa at the grocery store. That horn is something.
Interesting old footage of that passenger train traffic. Cool diesel motor sound. Thumbs up! :) Greetings Mega
I saw CSX Q249-10 passing through Dumont Nj by the Football field in 2000s long time ago it was a Southbound with Autoracks probably loaded with Cars from Selkirk to North Bergen yard in New Jersey
You get the road # of that SD60?
Miss those big 6s.
Back in the day when YN2 geeps existed and times were simpler.
WHAT IS THE SONG I LOVE IT SOMEONE PLEASSE TELL MEEEEEEE
Cool tour
BEST to live and die in L.A. end credit tribute on TH-cam Period.
Makes me wish my railroad still used really any EMD product, getting pretty sick of ES44s and AC44s that barely function....good video man
Now sounds awesome

horn for a ghost train
Can you not upload the There Goes A Train Nathan Old Cast P5A modern diesel electric train air horn sound in There Goes A Train?
Timothy the ghost engine
I remember CSX 8508 that's the engine that had it ditchlamps flickering constantly.
They need to put one on 1309
When I ever hear CSX trains with K5H horns it just sounds beautiful and awesome around Sand Patch grade or up by CSX River line in New Jersey in or North East New York state anywhere or South East along Csx Networks
This whistle sounds familiar, i just can’t tell where though…
Trainz
Awsome!
Awesome EMDs
I saw C39 and thought "Huh, don't think I've ever seen GEs in tarentum before." Then I noticed it's a layout lol Looks great!
It doesn’t sound like a metro horn
0:02 Now that’s what I Call a Little Switcher With a Big Whistle & Also that’s Gordon’s US Whistle
A classic whistle.
That horn at 1:44 is unreal loud. Maybe just the echo but crazy loud. Wasn’t this video up awhile ago, then I couldn’t find it.
Nice K5LA
This was Q136 (now I136)
No, this was either Q134 or Q148. When this was filmed, Q135/Q136 were Chicago-Philly trailers, not the same trains they are today. Not to mention this train did not have cab signal equipment for the RF&P, nor did the RF&P yet have clearances for double stacks through the M Street tunnel. I don’t remember if 134 & 148 were both profiled to Baltimore at the same time, but 148 used to terminate in Cumberland, then they extended it to Baltimore. It frequently had run thru power from Chicago.
Hi I'm putting together a TH-cam Video featuring the GP40wh-2 would it be ok if I used some of this footage?
ive been trying to find the name of this song if anyone finds it let me know please
Awesome catch, that station is Boyds
Behind the CSX engine, there was an HLCX engine.
The old signals have been removed. The new ones are still active.
That ditchlight is burned out
Half life
Also used in portal 2
A chime of a 4-16-4. wow.
Great horn 👏
0:20 sounds the best
Now, picture a J1 Potomac thundering down the track hauling a heavy coal train while that whistle screams through. It's a thing of beauty, too bad we don't have J1 Potomacs in Preservation, they would be perfect for excursion trains.
1:23 JointedRail K5LA origin?
OH YEAH IT'S SO FAMILIAR
