    -If you dont clean the zerk You'll pump dirt into the joint.
    -Pump grease into the zerk until you see CLEAN grease
    come out the joint.
    -When you first pickup your grease gun, squeeze out a little
    and wipe it off with a clean rag-this is to remove any dirt
    which has collected on the grease in the tip of your gun.
    -Whenever you lay down your gun, rest the tip on a clean
    reg so it does not pickup any more dirt
    -Motorhomes are so heavy, the weight will not allow much
    grease to enter the lower kingpin joints. Item 2 & 6 in your
    drawing. Jack up each side to unload the joint THEN grease.
    -replace zerk #9 with a 90 degree zerk if you dont when a
    shop cant grease the straight zerk here, he will skip it.
    GOOD JOB!
    !

    WOW, since I've never owned a Class A (or anything with power levelers), I never realized how often you have to clean + grease them. It sounds like every 3rd day y'all are performing, some sort of, maintenance. And I thought when I had the trailer it was a pain in the neck greasing the bearings, etc regularly.
    👍👍 To y'all for being diligent owners of your rig!

      Thanks Mona! It's not that much work. Basically wipe the 4 chrome rods down every week. The rest is only a few times a year. 😀

      @@justmona9647 Chrome rods every 5-7 days unless along the coast, then 2-3 days due to the salt air. Grease levelers every 20 -30 times, with the way we move, maybe twice a year. Front end grease job every time we change the oil, so average 3 times a year. :)

    Nice job and always informative. Unfortunately, you are right that many places will not do a lube job when getting the oil changed

    • @GetGonewithUS
      @GetGonewithUS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Lou! One of the places that did the oil change told us if the mechanic sees any zerks he'll grease those. Never happened. I wish campgrounds allowed us to change our own oil. I heard there is a Thousand Trails in CA that not only allows it, but has a place from you to do it too. Stay Safe! 😀

    Hi guys, I just took my new-to-me 2012 Vista with F53 22,000lb chassis in for new sneakers & an alignment. Went to pick it up & tires were done but they told me my king-pins were shot & they couldn't do the alignment! With only 25,000 miles on it??? (Going to try to get her into Ford Heavy Truck shop for 2nd opinion) BUT... In researching for king pin info. I've found out that these king pins should be greased Unloaded (taking weight off wheel) & then again when the load is re-applied. I've had a 1999 F53 since 2007 & now the new one - I had never heard of that! Just thought I'd pass the info on to you. Love all your videos & FB page!

      @@GetGonewithUS What were the cons you've heard? Researching to see why these king pins could be shot with only 25,000 miles & the most common response I get is "possible if they weren't greased the correct way"). I'm really bummed with this because I thought I had my new rig ready to roll & now trying to deal with this! :(

      @@scottygaado3230 It was a few years ago I was reading forums on the pros and cons. I really don't remember the specifics off the top of my head. 25,000 miles does seem a bit quick for them to go though.

    Do your universal joints not have zerks? My diesel does and they can be a bear to get at. on my joke, I need to add grease until it starts to come out of the weep hole in the U-joint end of the yoke. Then you cover the weep hole with your finger and pump until fresh grease comes out the spline seal.

    • @GetGonewithUS
      @GetGonewithUS  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No grease zerks on the u joints. It's a sealed joint on the 2016 Ford F53 chassis RV's.

    Chuck, I could be doing a hand stand without any hands when I make this comment. Many moons ago, don't remember when or where I was instructed not to pull straight off the zerk fitting, sort of bend it 90 degrees to remove it. I have continued to do that to this very day. Probably doesn't make a hill of beans. Surely didn't know the leveling cylinders needed to be wiped down on a regular basis. Do you maintain them while you are breaking down to go to your next stop? Sorry for the winded comment! PEACE THANKS SAFE TRAVELS

      Nope you are standing on both feet! LOL I heard that too many years ago, but have been doing it the same way for over 40 years (OMG has it really been that long????) and have yet to have an issue. Knock on wood! Yes, we will generally wipe them before we leave to head to the next campground. They say every 5-7 days to wipe it down, sometimes we go a little longer. 😉You guys stay safe!

    Great video! Especially liked the numbered close-ups of the individual grease fittings. I’m getting ready do an oil & filter change on our 2016 F53. I’ll lube the front end too. Do you know if there are any grease fittings on the driveline u-joints?

      Thanks Tom. I believe that Ford stopped putting grease zerks on the drive shafts around 1999-2000 era. Of course I can only verify my 2016 doesn't have them. 😀
