Came in to the co-op today and got myself a trio of beautiful guppies, and a trio of amazing high-fin platies! Thanks for having such a high quality supply and a knowledgeable and helpful staff!
Great video Cory! How you manage to talk to the camera as though it was a friend- it's magic. You share so much of yourself with/for us. I LOVE the irony of you talking about how wide the house slider door is (thinking ahead) and then in the baby turtle video admitting the sink room doorway was too narrow! Helps us take our own fish adventure mishaps in stride and with a smile.
Just ordered some plants(crypt, anubias and sword), some all in one aquarium co-op fertilizer, aquarium co-op brine shrimp and sponge intake. Thank you for all you do Cory, I'm happy to support your business and get some great products 👍🏻
Personally Cory I'm really liking the long format videos. You give a lot of detail and the video doesn't get boring because you're jumping through all the stuff you have going on. Plus like in this video it was kinda a 15 min of the fish room and 15 min for the house renovations so it keeps it interesting splitting the video up with different topics. Thumbs up from me 👍🏻.
Such a great video cory... I'm a long time follower... not luving/liking your RFT anymore(dislike corvus or whatever). but still cool to find these, old awesome videos you have... thank you, youtube for showing this video
Love your video Cory. Thanks for the tour of your 🏡. You and your wife really have to have a lot of patience with your remodeling. Nice touch with the doggie door! Happy pooches🐶
Great vlog as always. Nice to see the personal side of you guys- home renovation looking good! Can wait to see your ponds outside and the changes to the fish room!!
Great video Cory. For people like me far away its good to "get to know you" a little better like this. Good luck with all the projects and renovations and look forard to the updates buddy. Peace, Ben
Love your vids Corey and I don't even have a freshwater tank any longer lol although you've been inspiring me to take my latest tank project and change it from salt to fresh. Going through a home remodel myself so enjoyed the part about yours as well, and yes its amazing how quickly one small home project spirals way out of control.
He is totally right about the pearling not nearing CO2 because I have experimented with it and I have had plants start pearling without even using ferts or a bubbler
Yay! Love watching your videos. I have gone back many times to rewatch videos for reference. I want to say thank you for trying to trap and neuter/spay I rescued two cats myself and took them to humane society. My neighbor kicked out her declawed cat right before winter. Oh man I could ramble on that subject lol Anyway thanks again!
We found a litter of kittens in our woodpile last fall. Took me half the day, but I found all 6 babes; nursed them over night and dropped them off at the local no-kill shelter. They were 3 to 4 weeks, so perfect age for weening and adoption. Wincy wanted me to keep them so badly, they were beyond adorable!
Love hardwood floors AND doggy doors. I've never had problems with other animals coming in, but I have big dogs that would prevent strangers from entering.
@tsns1 The difference is, the refrigerator is an inanimate object that won't care where it's placed while waiting to be bought. The beta fish could be stuck in that cup for the rest of their lives if no one decides they want to buy a beta fish from Walmart before they die from being in a tiny cup that's filling up more and more with their own urine and feces.
tsns1 They aren't even shipped in those containers, that would take up way too much space and be too expensive to ship. Fish are shipped in bags, bettas are then put into those little cups. I've seen the employees at my LFS doing this. It wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem if they were given appropriate care like water changes (at the very least). They're living creatures, you'd think that if your business is built on selling living creatures you'd do your best to keep them healthy until they are sold.
For me........great video! It was more like, just hanging out with cory video! I know how much time and work a 12 or 15 minute video is with the filming and editing but I much prefer an interesting 30 to 60 Minute video especially when it's a smooth enjoyable video like hanging out and just going over everything and anything rather than one specific topic for 30 to 60 minutes absolutely great video Corey thanks
My crypts wentia red, stay looking like grass red and green leaves. Runners are green. They came in a bag out of water from PS and have grown 5 inchs and look healthy. I have plants in a fountain outside growing for the summer. Pond supply stores have them for $3 a bundle. Even had java moss 👍A huge bag of plant for $30
Great video again Cory! I love the tanks, and that's a great idea with the things for the Bettas! Inglorious Bettas has that too right? 7:50 My Red Lotus does that too! *_Keep up the good work and thumbs up!_*
Cory - most of the insulation value in mutlipane windows is from the air gap. The coefficient of heat transfer on air is significantly lower than plastic or glass- double up your plastic with a way to create an air gap between the layers and you'll get the best of all worlds. (We're talking transfer coefficients of 0.02 for air vs like 0.3 for plastic and 1.0 for glass. Best case would likely be to use some 1x2 or similar material to make a nice rigid frame then stretch the plastic around that frame to create a nice top. Use those metal rails to rig a hinge system
Wish I would have known that you were going to be here in Denver, I would have loved to have heard you speak. I enjoy watching your videos, keep up the great work.
nice house lots of headaches will be worth it tho I wouldn't mind the cats keeps field mice away and such plus if your keeping fish outside away they could help keep other predictors away and your tanks are looking great
you should use drop cloths it's kind of thick plastic used for painting to cover up that tank outside there super cheap and thick enough to work with I would check if the plastic is safe and such
Few options with the IBC totes. If your soil temps are to low, or experience perma frost keep the tanks off direct ground contact(perhaps put some used styrene foam under the pallets), optional alternative is use the thermal mass of the ground as a heat sink. Wrap the tank sides with foiled bubble wrap insulation. black builders plastic is also an option and absorbs heat from the sun, I did this to block Sun UV plastic degradation to the tote as IBC totes are not UV stable. (i live in Australia so different climate needs) Could use ordinary bubble wrap for light transparency but will not block UV just insulate. as for lids I would probably go with the same polycarbonate Sunlight* sheets you use for DIY tank lids. fairly rigid so snow weight wont bust them and enough of a barrier to trap heat. Just use some Pool Noodle/pipe insulation foam to fillin the IBC tote contours on top. Or you could have save the top cut outs and used them for lids with zip tie hinges......
Hope that new Betta system works out for you! Excited to see how the deep sand bed works in a 1 gallon. Interesting how more frequent water changes doesn't always mean better water quality!
Cory, thank you so much for doing the experimentation in deep sand bed filtration. I've skimmed through some of the articles on google scholar and I think you're about to move the hobby in a different direction. I'm excited about the results. I hope you remain unbiased through out the whole process. I'm liking the story board theme. I hope it's not too much work for Jimmy! 😁
Cherry shrimp will devour any "soft" algae like diatoms and green dust, but you'd have to really starve them to see them eat hair algae or black beard i bet. In my experience they just coexist with it, actually they prefer it because it's just more grazing space and the fine threads catch lots of suspended particles. Amanos seem a little happier eating thread algae and some hair algae but if you get them on bloodworms it's over!
Very interrested to see how you set up the betta jars , tried looking through inglorious betta's vids and couldnt find the actual jar contents setup ( only the heat stip install ) hoping i can get something the same size here in the UK as ive never been a fan of keeping them in tiny systems
If your fine with running air to the totes, treat it like a polytunnel greenhouse. Put two layers of plastic over it and force air between them. It will create an air gap which is what gets you the insulating value. It doesn't have to be super air tight, just tight enough that the air forces the two plastic sheets apart.
Cory! Go with a nice Italian painted ceramic tile for the kitchen dude - makes all the dif with the ladies when it comes time to sell! Just work out complimentary patterns and DIY as you can afford!
My wife didn't want tile, as she bakes all the time and it's harder on your knees. we went for commercial grade vinyl. She was also dead set against hardwood etc. As I say, she gets what she wants in the house. I get what I want in the fish house.
Hey Cory what about the plastic used to cover your windows , It also comes with double sided weather stripping , I think that would work really , will keep things out , and allow excellent light in ☺☺. (for your plastic totes outside )
Cory just get some 2 by 4's make a box top and then put some double pane greenhouse panels on the top. You could even cut yourself a lid for easy access. It would last longer than the plastic and be way cheaper than the double pane glass.
It makes sense that some CO2 would dissolve in the water from either the air bubbles themselves or from the surface by the agitation. If it works for O2 then it should work some what for CO2 as well. They say that there's around 400ppm of CO2 in the air, and usually you're going for 30ppm when injecting CO2. Greater concentration in the air, so at least some of it must be able to dissolve into the water. I tried putting a CO2 diffuser on my air pump a while back but the pump wasn't strong enough to push through the diffuser. In theory if you had something that was strong enough, it could work.
with pumping air into the outdoors you could possibly run into having cold water siphoned back into the fish room if the air pressure is not strong enough
I would not suggest linoleum for the kitchen. When remodeling you get your biggest value when upgrading the kitchens and the bathrooms so spending a bit more for cork, stone, or just running the same hardwood throughout is the smartest financial move. In case you were wondering the best upgrades for a house that are nonstructural or mechanical are kitchen, bathroom, painting, flooring, landscaping, and a new front door in neutral colors palates. Even if you are not selling right now these are good for your property value in the long run.
I have had an ankle injury for months; we went with industrial grade, thicker linoleum that has a little more give in it (more comfort for my ankle/foot). I will never put hardwood in a bathroom or kitchen ever. Whoever decided putting wood floors in bathrooms/kitchens is a good idea has never had a leak. Possibly tile/stone later on down the line whenever we work on the kitchen.
You might want to look a swimming pool solar cover/blanket, there like heavy duty bubble wrap, they might be more expensive than you want to spend but there very efficient. They come in round, oval & rectangle, and all different sizes and colors. I'd include a link but then this would probably go to spam, just Google "swimming pool solar cover", good luck.
Seems to me like you could sell a betta with it's whole container set up. Pet fish ready to set up on your desk in an already cycled system. Add an index card with instructions on feeding and care and you're set.
You should use the 10mil sheet over top and then cover the whole thing in n foil, that will help to keep it in (as long as you then cover the foil with something else preferably black)
Do you recommend that I use java moss or Christmas Moss in my tanks to protect fry? I need one that grows a lot without added fertilisers, it will have fish producing waste but no added ferts. And just a standard light. Thanks!
Isn't home remodeling fun?! Lol. The doggy door room is the kitchen? Diningroom?? Solar tubes are fabulous - never thought of them as natural lighting for aquariums - brilliant idea! I'm a remodel/construction nerd, so I really enjoyed seeing the work - can't wait to see it finished.
great vid. should off gone bifolding doors instead off sliding then u would off had the whole space open as for the glass vs plastic I'd go for acrylic if something falls one it you ain't going to end up with aload off glass every where but glass will trap heat better
Hi Cory, would a Fish Bowl under gravel filter fit in one of those Betta jars? It might me a simple way of filtering them seems you have the central air system.
Hi Cory hope all is well. What are the dims on the new tub you took outside for daphnia? I work with 1/8" 5052 Aluminum sheets daily at work. You could potentially get an aluminum sheet to spec and make a few plexiglass/ clear acrylic windows. Just a thought. let me know if you are interested! Have a great day!
I'd have to measure it exactly. Once it's sunny again I'll go check out some options outside, thank you for the offer. I'll take you up on it if needed :)
so what this means is that i could pluck some plants out of my tank, put it in a planter and grow it as a potted plant in my room? or does it only work the other way round
The acrylic sheets warp when put over water, you'd want to use lexan, and I believe it would be the lest cost effective solution. But with enough money it would work jsut fine.
i know this isnt related to the video but my 75 gallon tank has holes drilled in the bottom for bulkheads i believe, do you know any way that i could plug those holes effectively and not allow them to leak? as i am using a regular HOB filter.
No real expert, but fill the bottom with black rock, or even paint it black. More solar heat will be captured with a dark medium. Solar sink! And that greenhouse polycarbonate twinwall can be bought by the sheet. As for the cutting job, maybe re-cut it straight, or place a board around all 4 sides.
Hi Co op. How can I make sure a newly bought plant from other fish tank is safe to use in my established tank. I mean no spreading of diseases to my fish.
I got some new black Molly's but after keeping them in quarantine for a week or so only the females started developing white spots on their Gill flaps and then started dying off all I have now are males so I was hoping u could tell me of a possible reason but as always cool video with alot of info keep it up ✌✌✌
Where did you buy those 1 gallon jars? I've been looking for them since I saw that notorious betta video. I'm in Canada so I'd have to order them online
300 watt solar panel is approximately $125 -$150. See if you can pair a aquarium heater to it. Then just cover the pond with something cheap and simple. No, I have not done this but it may work.
That's not really a long term solution and I think you would attract the wrong type of betta keepers that a responsible store owner isn't trying to attract. I know cory's said that he'll sell a fish to someone even if they will put it in a tiny bowl, but I have a hard time believing he'd actually encourage it.
+Teagan Combest yeah the smallest tanks at the store are 5 gallons. This is purely a temp scenario in a heated room with a team of people responsible for their health.
a top made out of plexiglass for my 20gallon long costed me 17$ canadian... so i guess around 85$ canadian about 65$ for your size i guess or you can use some acrylic roof sheet i think those are cheaper
Solar power!!! Have a solar panel as a "lid" to run a heater or 2 during the day but have it so that enough power is stored to run the heaters overnight.

Ive been looking at fish videos for 10 years, this is by far the best regular content I've ever come across. Keep up the good work!
+Kevin Clark glad you enjoy it Kevin
Came in to the co-op today and got myself a trio of beautiful guppies, and a trio of amazing high-fin platies! Thanks for having such a high quality supply and a knowledgeable and helpful staff!
Thanks! I'm at the gsas auction currently.

I love that you're making improvements for the Betta that are both economical for your business and safe for them. The jars are a nice middle-ground
Just ordered some plants(crypt, anubias and sword), some all in one aquarium co-op fertilizer, aquarium co-op brine shrimp and sponge intake. Thank you for all you do Cory, I'm happy to support your business and get some great products 👍🏻

Cory, you made out like a bandit on that sink. That is a $600.00 sink all day long and you got the faucet too. You are the man on finding deals. 👍👍👍👍
Yeah I'm gonna love it!
I like the long videos. I watch them while doing water changes 😊
Cory is the best! I learned so much from this man! Keep up what you're doing 👌
Love your video Cory. Thanks for the tour of your 🏡. You and your wife really have to have a lot of patience with your remodeling. Nice touch with the doggie door! Happy pooches🐶
We are hoping after this is done, we can have a more relaxed summer, ha.
great, great video i really enjoyed it thanks for sharing Cory
I get excited everytime I see a post about the fish room
Thank you for watching, I appreciate it Nathan.
Cool idea with the betta containers. I want more bettas too. I have one betta in his own 10 gallon. He has his own palace and loves it lol.
Great vlog as always. Nice to see the personal side of you guys- home renovation looking good! Can wait to see your ponds outside and the changes to the fish room!!
Like the direction you're taking things!
Keep up the good work. All the best from across the pond
Great video Cory. For people like me far away its good to "get to know you" a little better like this. Good luck with all the projects and renovations and look forard to the updates buddy. Peace, Ben
This used to be the primary type of video I did in the past.
+Gerry G yeah I can't wait to sleep in my own bed again
We just got our tank up and going, it's about two months old, and our plants are already pearling with no effort on our part. It's pretty cool 😊
Awesome, sounds like a happy tank.
very cool video man. thanks for the update and bringing us into your room. and I love the long vids
He is totally right about the pearling not nearing CO2 because I have experimented with it and I have had plants start pearling without even using ferts or a bubbler
Yay! Love watching your videos. I have gone back many times to rewatch videos for reference.
I want to say thank you for trying to trap and neuter/spay
I rescued two cats myself and took them to humane society. My neighbor kicked out her declawed cat right before winter. Oh man I could ramble on that subject lol
Anyway thanks again!
We found a litter of kittens in our woodpile last fall. Took me half the day, but I found all 6 babes; nursed them over night and dropped them off at the local no-kill shelter. Oh don't worry, Sassy alerts us when anyone is anywhere near the house. She may be old and going blind....but she knows when someone is around!
Hi Cory.. you are always amazing me.. love the baby turtle!! You home project looks great.. have a wonderful weekend!!
Will do, thanks for the support!
I really enjoyed this chill video. Keep up the amazing work!
I'm really diggen the Betta idea. Keep up the great work!
Hey Cory that's an awesome hardwood floor there, always love you videos, thanks for sharing quality content. :)
liked the video very much!!! please keep us updated with the betta prodject
it's so refreshing to see betta being kept in something larger than those awful plastic cups
I agree =)
Bob I THINK you mean I concur.
#iconcure
@tsns1 The difference is, the refrigerator is an inanimate object that won't care where it's placed while waiting to be bought. The beta fish could be stuck in that cup for the rest of their lives if no one decides they want to buy a beta fish from Walmart before they die from being in a tiny cup that's filling up more and more with their own urine and feces.
tsns1 They aren't even shipped in those containers, that would take up way too much space and be too expensive to ship. Fish are shipped in bags, bettas are then put into those little cups. Wrap the outside fish tanks with black plastic to help warm from sun light may be to warm for summer temps : ) PS keep up the great work Cory

Cory, Use a pool solar blanket cut to fit the outside tubs.... they just lay on top and will insulate...
Yeah that is a good idea
My crypts wentia red, stay looking like grass red and green leaves. Runners are green. They came in a bag out of water from PS and have grown 5 inchs and look healthy. I have plants in a fountain outside growing for the summer. Pond supply stores have them for $3 a bundle. Even had java moss 👍A huge bag of plant for $30
Great video again Cory!
I love the tanks, and that's a great idea with the things for the Bettas! Inglorious Bettas has that too right?

Hope that new Betta system works out for you! Excited to see how the deep sand bed works in a 1 gallon. Interesting how more frequent water changes doesn't always mean better water quality!
When is your next video coming out? :)
I really like rescape/tank build vids 👍🏻.
classic Cory, loves it!
These videos are easier to edit that most actually.
WOOO Im in colorado! I may go and see you!
That solar tube thing seems to be a great idea: free, natural light.
It'll be interesting if I play with it
great video cory

Hey Cory i've heard some rumors that the sink doesn't fit through the door!
+st0mg3 yeah, :p
True Story, my big toe still hurts =(
Steenfott Aquatics I hope it's not gout!
Seems to me like you could sell a betta with it's whole container set up. Pet fish ready to set up on your desk in an already cycled system. Add an index card with instructions on feeding and care and you're set.
JediSuPhu 1 gallon is too small to keep a betta for life though. 2.5 gallons is the minimum for Long term
You should use the 10mil sheet over top and then cover the whole thing in n foil, that will help to keep it in (as long as you then cover the foil with something else preferably black)
I've never heard of keeping blackworms in a betta tank. I'd love to learn more about the setup if you have any resources you can share!
I concur with this video type

I'd say java moss does best in that situation.

Me either. The dogs are tired of sleeping in a smaller bed without Cory's body heat to keep them warm. lol
great vid. should off gone bifolding doors instead off sliding then u would off had the whole space open as for the glass vs plastic I'd go for acrylic if something falls one it you ain't going to end up with aload off glass every where but glass will trap heat better
where did you get the plastic containers? I would really love to have some because I have a lot for betta.
Hi Cory, would a Fish Bowl under gravel filter fit in one of those Betta jars? It might me a simple way of filtering them seems you have the central air system.
Probably, but that would defeat the purpose of the deep sand bed which once established should be more effective than traditional filtering.
Sounds good!
you have just 1 fluval 2.0 on the 75g tank? or do you have 2? Would you need 2 in order to grow higher light requirement plants?
+Kosin Trouble In The Tank I use one, but yes two would be required for a higher light tank
At what point do you think as the Malaysian trumpet snails reproduce, does the bio load become to much for a small jar. Can that happen?
What fish go best with Guppies? In a 3 gallon aquarium.
Potatoes don't swim
The water just got salty.
The guppies you have in there have already overstocked your aquarium and it is advisable to not add any more fish.
so what this means is that i could pluck some plants out of my tank, put it in a planter and grow it as a potted plant in my room? or does it only work the other way round
Well most aquatic plants are terrestrial, but you'd run into humidity issues with keeping the plant wet enough for most species.
You just use the sawdust from sanding and wood glue to fill in the cracks. The whole process is fairly labor intensive but it's not difficult.
Unfortunately they haven't done that, and now I'm waiting to hear what they are going to do to fix it :(
What about thick acrylic sheets? Like the ones often used to make tanks you could even cut tube feeding holes for your pumps etc
The acrylic sheets warp when put over water, you'd want to use lexan, and I believe it would be the lest cost effective solution. But with enough money it would work jsut fine.
What about using a Thermo-Tex Solar blanket for your outside totes. They are made for pools, clear, keeps in the heat and lets in light.
i know this isnt related to the video but my 75 gallon tank has holes drilled in the bottom for bulkheads i believe, do you know any way that i could plug those holes effectively and not allow them to leak? as i am using a regular HOB filter.
+David Guye glue in pvc caps
you really need to do how to make natural aqurium cory
No real expert, but fill the bottom with black rock, or even paint it black. More solar heat will be captured with a dark medium. Solar sink! And that greenhouse polycarbonate twinwall can be bought by the sheet. As for the cutting job, maybe re-cut it straight, or place a board around all 4 sides.
+Animalier I like the idea about dark substrate
Hi Co op. How can I make sure a newly bought plant from other fish tank is safe to use in my established tank. I mean no spreading of diseases to my fish.
The only way would be to quarantine it in another tank. The longer the better.
I would like black gravel or pebbles but what would you recommend for cherry shrimp fire red and ember tetras???
Black gravel would work fine
I got some new black Molly's but after keeping them in quarantine for a week or so only the females started developing white spots on their Gill flaps and then started dying off all I have now are males so I was hoping u could tell me of a possible reason but as always cool video with alot of info keep it up ✌✌✌
+Demon Prince how hard is your water and how high of a pH?
Where did you buy those 1 gallon jars? I've been looking for them since I saw that notorious betta video. I'm in Canada so I'd have to order them online
+ACertainJustice I'll have to look it up at a computer, was like ccw plastics or sonething
i love you vidoes
about the co2 there is less then 1% of it in the air so you would have to pump like 200l of air to get 1% of co2 or something
I'm still amazed you had un-metered water for so long.
Last ones on the street, the end of an era.
Use a thermal pool cover may be able to get a few out of 1 of them.
300 watt solar panel is approximately $125 -$150. See if you can pair a aquarium heater to it. Then just cover the pond with something cheap and simple. No, I have not done this but it may work.
How do you keep the water clean for the betta in the small gallon containers
+Todd Miller going to use a deep sand bed and live plants
for the betta tanks my advise is to not use sand or anything else you are cutting volume of water the conteiners are pretty small
How about putting plant in the 1g something easy like water wisteria, 1 betta and sell it as a take home, ready to go tank for $40
That's not really a long term solution and I think you would attract the wrong type of betta keepers that a responsible store owner isn't trying to attract.
Any reason you didn't get French doors over sliding ones if clearance is what you wanted?
Easy, the wife didn't want french doors :)
Aquarium Co-Op yup, I've been that soldier.
What are some grass plants that I can put in my tank
+Candy Corn vallisneria
a top made out of plexiglass for my 20gallon long costed me 17$ canadian... so i guess around 85$ canadian about 65$ for your size i guess or you can use some acrylic roof sheet i think those are cheaper
What website did you buy the containers from ?
Solar power!!! Have a solar panel as a "lid" to run a heater or 2 during the day but have it so that enough power is stored to run the heaters overnight.
