By the looks of it, the battery holder can be unclipped, it seems to be on a 9V battery clip, that way you can easily change the batteries. Nice video again!
The case is strange because the size and shape makes me think it should contain a small CRT. I almost expected that it would be a repurposed injection mold from a much older product, but there are no mounting points for a CRT or large boards. But why else would the display jut out like that? And so much empty space. Weird..
Yes it is the Mastech M9803R without the Serial interface. I have been using mine for about 10 years now and the only thing I do not like about it is the dim display. Kind of reminds me of a Fluke.
APPA benchtops have portable analogs. 207 is 304, 208 is 305, 209 is 505 (new series). So yours 205 is probably 301 or 302 pocket DMM analog. Manualsy are easily available, just google. I like them, but 100/300 and older 200 series all have mV bug. If you measure rather high voltage, and then change from V to mV, instead of OL (OverLoad), DMM would show some inconsistent voltage. Maybe some newer revision do not have the problem.
Besides the few shortcomings you pointed out, its a really nice meter! ~Jack, VEG

great design
Haha, the display frame seems to be from Hasselblad, with those two notches @ the left side of this frame :D
Beautiful, love it :D
At first it looked like a portable tv set.

maybe this shape protects the knob ? and the empty space is used to make a room for the test leads,
Very similar to the Mastech 9803R Digital Multimeter and I think it is the Mastech or Sinometer
This instrument is very similar to Mastech M9803R. Display and controls are exactly the same.
