It was, insane... friend who graduated last year said it's different then what I got to go through. I swear BMQ is now easier somehow I'm currently a Sailior 2nd class (S2) in the canadian navy reserves as a Naval Combat information operator (mos: 00114) but when I did BMQ back after covid ended every instructor were dazzled and confused how to start the bmq that was cancelled lots of times and when we did start it felt like a breeze. I did my BMQ at Vimy in Quebec and I was stationed at the H huts, meaning they were chill buildings with ac/heaters the best housing for recruits there was, you can also be stationed at the tents where it is nasty to stay in there with so many bugs and weather elements. My favourite part about my Basic Military Qualification was the part instructors were playing some scary horror music of a girl laughing at night it was 3 am for us and we heard it we thought we were in hell. The standard way to react was saying Stand 2 Stand 2, it means that all troops should be ready for combat anytime.

The CAF vehicles are in a sorry state and our entire armed forces has enough munitions to conduct warfare on the scale of the fighting in Ukraine for approximately 2 to 5 days

If all goes to plan, I should be off to BMQ for next summer. I believe that is what they said. In the meantime, I've been hitting the gym and working on endurance training.

Many of the people and friends who I served with have been hurt injured beyond repair from their tours in Afghanistan. The Army and the government provided them next to little or no help and it is not going to change. A significant amount of wounded veterans have been treated terribly and had their lives ruined despite fighting the good fight and serving their country and fulfilling their duties. Our government literally has said that our wounded veterans are “ asking for too much” while our Veterans affairs system is ineffective at best. Instead of taking care of our Afghanistan veterans, our government is literally offering Medically Assisted Suicide. Do the research and you will see I am telling you the truth.
I would honestly recommend applying, I applied in end July and I’m at the Medical/Interview stage, my process took a halt for 2ish weeks due to missing paperwork but otherwise it has been pretty quick
Hope you don't have family members overseas, otherwise it will take you 18 months for your security clearance. Many from my cohort have this issue, but for those who didn't need security clearance it doesn't take that long.

God damn I remember my BMG from two years ago! It was sadly the COVID BMQ so it was nowhere as hard as it should have been, but I learned a lot, and even though we missed out on some things, they definitly made up for it on the infantry DP1
This looks like BMQ for the regular forces not the reserve because in the reserve you must pass the FORCE test before getting enrolled while in this video they are doing the Force test after getting enrolled.

Here's an honest tip - don't disclose ANYTHING on your medical unless it affects your day to day life. Food allergies (real allergies, not sensitivities) or medications you absolutely require (diabetes, etc) The more you admit to, the more your application will be delayed, as the chief medical officer in Ottawa needs to review your file and sign off on it. Make your file easy to approve

I don't understand the Canadian reserves. I am from the States. The Reserve there is basically like the active duty, but reduced duties. You still complete the same Basic as everyone else, and the same AIT. Here, I'm told, you're attached to whatever unit is in your area, and have to go to whatever area there is a unit for the MOS you want. So, say I want to go for medic, I have to go to an area that has a medic reserve unit if there's none in my area. Is this true?
Yes that’s correct, so for example every Reserve brigade is structured the same as a Regular Force brigade they have the exact or similar composition with infantry, armoured or medical units. So whatever trade some one is interested in, that trade is in that brigade in their local area

Part time BMQ is run in the fall and it’s 2 weekends a month. Full time is 5 weeks and the courses are run out of a local Armoury in the same city or a municipality where you currently live

Those are only issued to new recruits but once they get their trade course completed and have been in a year they can get a boot claim to buy new boots up to $350 and they pay for it out of pocket but get reimbursed the money they spent purchasing their own boots

As far as I am aware, some Service Battalion positions have weekend courses, however, most trades require 1-3 months off for their DP1s

Usually I suggest to people who are unsure, to try different exercises to asses their fitness levels.
If you can run 1km, deadlift 50lbs repetitively i’d say thats a good absolute minimum.
