  • Fun little demo I did comparing the two. I used the same exact amp and cab models. I also used the same guitar in same pick up position for best results. I am a strong believer in tone is in your hands, but this was just for fun. Watch in HD for best results.No post EQ or anything was use in cubase. The drums are Superior Drummer Metal! expansion. These riffs are from a song me and james from Cirka Sik are working on. Like and subscribe for more guitar related videos. Enjoy! Follow me on social media!

    Watched the whole video, preferred the Line 6. The AxeFX always sounded muffled. The Pod sounded much clearer and the clean sound was much, much better. Thanks for the demo.

      hey thanks for watching dude. Yea Line 6 seems to get alot of hate nowadays but I have always been a fan of there products. Have you tried or checked out the Line 6 Helix? I guess it's pretty awesome

    • @kf5tjc
      @kf5tjc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried one. Mostly because it's far beyond my budget. I do have an acquaintance who plays in a gigging band and he loves his. He's totally ditched everything except that Helix. I guess he goes straight into the house sound system at the casinos he plays in. I have pretty insensitive ears and I don't hear much difference between tube amps and my Pod XT, so I doubt seriously that I'd hear a considerable difference between my XT and the Helix. I'm happy with what I've got and if it ain't broke, right?

      yea haha...they just released the axe fx 3 so they should go down in price a little bit for the 2. I'm a fan both . Doesn't matter how you get good tone as long as you like it then who cares right. I would be perfectly happy using either one of these. Cheeers dude!

      Really? There is totally night and day difference in the two. The amp models in the FX2 at least were warm like a real amp, but the Line 6 was cold and shrill. I played the XT for years and trust me, the tone is hot garbage. I have the Helix now, and to be honest all my tube gear and pedals collect dust including Helix because TH-U is just that damn great. Wish they would put it in a pedal.

    So I played your video a few times. 1st with my eyes closed. Then I watched your video to see what sound I liked first. To my surprise each and every time was the 2nd tone, the Line 6 XT Live. The Axe FX ll just sounded muffled or too much bass. Thanks for the video. I was planning on saving up for the Axe FX ll, since watching this video, I found a Line 6 POD XT Live on Facebook for $250.

    Pod is great if you take plenty of time to dial out scratchiness and mud and maybe even add a couple of your own pedals to it. You may need to turn down your gain, bass, treble, gain, presence, add tube screamer patches also with low gain, bass and treble, mess with your guitar knobs. The pod likes both pickups of my prs se engaged with the neck pickup rolled off a bit. Otherwise forget it. The pod tends to get muffled and scratchy if you turn settings up trying to melt faces. You can still melt faces with it, but you will most likely have a lot of settings turned down and you might want to add your own drive pedal as well depending on the exact flavor you want. I have been messin with a pod hd500x for a while and everyday I figure out more ways to dial it in even better with no extra drive pedals but I do have my own delay and a chase bliss spectre pedal in the loop which Make it sound even better. I might get a separate drive pedal later to add to it but since I don’t play djent and I play more bad Brains hard rock/punk style with a 6 string i’m Already good.

    It's all academic when comparing units.. Most units all excel at high
    gain, burn sounds.. The difference with units like the Ax fx and the Kemper, are the low gain, in-between (blues stuff) . As well as, the Clean amp models. The lower priced units don't have that 3-D quality of a Vintage Fender Deluxe or a Twin.. They tend to be very sterile a lifeless.
    However, if your style is Metal, the lower priced units will be just fine for you..

    • @rookd1137

      Nice dude yea I could not agree with you more. I have noticed alot of the higher gain stuff on both sound very similar and nothing beats playing clean sound out of a real amp and using some awesome delay/ reverb pedals. I'm a big fan of MXR pedals, the Reverb m300 is amazing played through a nice clean amp. Cheers dude

    The video is okay, but you focus too much on highgain sounds. Only little time was spent on a clean sound. What about the vast field of blues and crunch tones? Well, considering your playing style, you probably don't care about delicate crunch :-) And please give us more time next time to read your information. I always had to press PAUSE to read them.

      It sounds awesome with external IRs!
      I have Torpedo CAB and I tried POD Farm with it.
      Signal:
      Guitar to AudioBox 22 IN // AudioBox 22 to PC (USB) // POD Farm 2.5 Standalone// AudioBox 22 OUT to Torpedo CAB with IR (no Power Amp, no EQ, nothing except the IR).
      With Torpedo IRs or with other IRs (Ownhammer, Celestion or the IR that you love) improves the sound incredible.
      Any amp sim (Amplitube, Guitar Rig, POD Farm, Revalver, etc) or pedalboard (Headrush, POD X3 Live, POD X3, Roland VG99, etc) professional or crappy, sounds great with external Impulses.
      The big secrets to me is to have an excellent IR (IMO, I'm not a pro, I'm just a guy who plays at home).
      Sorry for my english, I'm from Argentina. Best regards!

    Awesome video! Glad to see the Line 6 XT Live held its ground. I have one since 2007, which I bought in combo with a Variax 300. It's an amazing rig for live playing as you can program different tunings and make custom guitars with the Variax Workbench, all while having the pedal change the guitar preset to use with each patch. I was able to switch between an acoustic guitar with drop D tuning to a Les Paul with high gain amp in standard tuning by just changing the selected patch on the pedal on the same song...or you can have your computer change it for you via midi too. Very advanced for the time.

      Reynaldo...any tips on dialing in the unit?

    • @reynaldocuevas6543
      @reynaldocuevas6543 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnsavchak8202 Depends on what you are using it for. I’d say first make sure you select the right Output Mode (Studio Direct for plugging into an interface directly or some other mode depending on your amp). Try out different Output Modes to see what best fits with your amp. My choice had been using Stack Pwramp, but recently found that Combo Pwramp sounded better in my case, connecting into the FX Return of my amp, bypassing the preamp completely. Not sure if they tuned the Stack to a Tube PowerAmp setup and the combo poweramp to solid state, but I have a 100W solid state head and found it sounds way better in Combo mode. If you plan to use your preamp’s gain and use the Line 6 for effects only, then choose the output mode of Combo or Stack Front. After this step is done, then start shaping your sound one thing at a time, in the order that the unit scrolls it. It’ll start with the Amp, then noise gate/compressor, EQ pedal, etc. I find that shaping the Amp first and then the EQ will get you where you need. Unfortunately I cannot give you any pointers as to the values to use, as they will depend on what speakers you will be running. I had a preset for Studio Direct where I chose what cabs the system would emulate, but the emulation is turned off when you change the Output Mode to an amp (and no, running Studio Direct through and amp does not sound good). So, then I had a setup for my cab, an MG 4x12, but the bass response of those speakers is low, so the EQ I had set on the Studio Direct patch didn’t work. Now I got another cab which is 2x12 loaded with Vintage 30s, so I will setup different patches for that cab. You can stick with the same Amps, effects from patch set to patch set, but you will need to change the EQ to best suit the speakers they will be using.

  • @DonKelleyMusic
    @DonKelleyMusic ปีที่แล้ว

    the axe is vastly superior when you tweak it. Out of the box Axe (old version like this) is vastly inferior. I also wonder if the default settings on the axe amps were actually all centered, truly in the patch, or if they were just left at zero and the software was at whatever was the last used setting... cuz it was pretty bizarrely bad sounding compared to the axe fx I have used.
    Regardless, I own line6 stuff, helix, m9, and my old trust xt live keeps on rocking... I have the metal expansion pack in it which is, imho, where the xt board shines... as you can hear in this demo, the mesa and modern high gain amps by line6 are outstanding just as they come. The axe can do AMAZING things, and has a better modelling system (simply due to being newer), ...
    ... ******** but never forget that LINE6 INVENTED GUITAR AMP MODELLING! They know what they are doing *********

      Do you use X3 dual tone blends a lot or 1 tone like xt?

    The older pod could mop the fractal's ass on the floor if it could standalone use 3rd party impulses since line 6 pods impulses suck...i use the pod x3 with two notes torpedo or lecab on my pc and i could put it up against any modern modelers...anyways could you share you pod patches? Cheers

      Yea I also wish you could load your own or other Impulses in the pod that would be an amazing feature. I sometimes use the Carthasis (i think thats what it's called) Preshigh cab impulses with Lecab great stuff.

      Hahaha right. I love my Fractal but there are many other great ways to get good tones. I feel like the Fractal community is pretty narrow minded

    Personally I compared two models and Under XT LIVE turned out to be king, and the fractal was only a prince. I have recorded the test. The fractal has more bass in the sound. Under Xt live has better dynamics.

      Nice yea I like them both. Have you tried the new Line 6 Helix?

      I compared. POD XT Live is better.

      Just watched your "comparison" video and clearly you need to read the manual and go the the forum for help. You have something set wrong which is why your "dynamics" are off on the AX8, not Fractals fault thats user error. If you think your XT Live can hang with Fractal your sadly mistaken. Figure out how to set up a patch properly before you go and do a comparison video. I own an Axe FX II and also have had Kemper and Helix and even Helix blows away ALL the older line 6 units, and out of all of them I kept the Axe Fx,because its better lol. Why do you think so many Pros are using them and not Line 6?

      nice dude yea I have not really played out of any of my old amps or pedals or want anything besides my axe fx 2. I seriously love everything about it, there is nothing about it I dont like. I heard Cliff and the fractal team are working on getting some Darkglass Bass patches in a new update. Whats Your favorite amps on the axe Roger Roy?

    I just caught this video and lemme tell you...you just saved me a shit ton of money... and Geico wasn't even a consideration! I have the Pod Floor Live XT unit and from what little I have played with it I had considered getting a Hotone Ampero or a used Fractal...but damn... doesn't look like I need to. I'm going to pull the unit out and dial in a better sound. Thanks bro!

      Yes bro! Line 6 was sooooo ahead of there time with the digital stuff. Thanks for checking it out bro

      Rook D...any chance I can talk you out of those preset parameters...to help me narrow down my hunt for the tone with the Floor Live unit?

    I don‘t know what exactly you did wrong but the Axe FX sounded worse than ever before that I heard it. If you listen to Rocco Pezzin‘s Plastic Mind Frequencies stuff you know what that unit is actually capable of!

    • @rookd1137
      @rookd1137  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha thanks? I'm still trying to learn and get better at making videos. I must have picked some not very good impulses because I set the amp setting to about noon on all of them nothing crazy with no post plugins or EQing. I will check Rocco stuff out thanks cheers dude

    • @yoitsmegabe
      @yoitsmegabe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      axe fx models the amp controls pretty well including how the gain stacks...you wouldn't dial in a real recto with all the knobs at noon, the bass would be flubby and the gain would sound squashed and undefined. Dial it the way you would dial the real amp. That being said, I use pod farm and I think line 6 stuff can sound very good for high gain tones as well. In your test the line 6 sounds better, but having used both I know what the fractal is capable of.
