- On July 23, 2011, nine-year-old Rachel Beckwith was killed in a tragic car accident on highway I-90 near Seattle, Washington. After her death, thousands of people all around the world started donating to her mycharity: water fundraising page, and over the course of a month, raised over $1.2 million in Rachel's honor. That money is now helping 37,700 people get access to clean water.
It's been exactly a year since the accident. In honor of the anniversary, Rachel's mom, Samantha, and her grandparents, Richard and Roseanne, visit Ethiopia with charity: water and meet some of the people Rachel helped. We've documented the entire day on video so we can share it with all of you.

I saw this video today and thought of what power we as individuals have. Take a chance and stand up for what is right. With that, comes a price, but the reward is much greater.

Unfortunatly it took a life to gain the support of so many. Atleast her wish went beyond what her expectations were. I just hope I can still impact people after im gone. After all, what is a person who doesn't try to make the world a better place.

I had to stop about half way through, no way I could make it to the end without crying.

so sad to see someone that age die, someone that kind and selfless someone who had so much potensial to do greatness in this world she started young and ended young i have a little sister, when asked what she wants for her birthday she makes a list.This girl for her 9 birthday only wanted one thing not even for herself for people she dosn't even know who at nine she shouldn't think about but she did and hopefully this will make poeple more aware of the problems that dont directly concern them.

I will also say that I have been tracking this story globally, in countless countries and languages. Rachel's story has been retold more than many might imagine. I have seen it in Spanish, all European languages, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and on and on. In the countless accounts I have seen around the globe, I have only seen only about 15 or so individuals globally who take a negative bent to Rachel. I figure it is less than .1% globally who are ignorant regarding her heart.

It is interesting to me that Rachel's evocative story of life and death, and redemption after death, seems to pull at people profoundly ... and also causes uncertainty in some because of the bitter divide that I think exists both in our country (USA) on political issues, but also in the view of many in the USA regarding those less fortunate in the world at large. I think she should cause us all to re-examine what we believe to be true and find ways to come together and help (and love) others.

To the vast majority of those posting, we all agree Rachel was an amazing individual, and so is her mother for that fact. I might suggest we collectively ignore those few (I think there have only been 4-5 ignorant, or cruel, or even evil individuals) who are trying to taint what Rachel and the world has done to reaffirm hope. We are beacons of hope, while these few negators are at best shadows that flee such light. Do not lose hope or focus, for light will always prevail over evil.

I live in Karbala, and when I saw this girl, I swear to God, I did not stand up and cried. I prayed for her. I injected her. I loved her humanity, which came to us to the delight of Iraqis. I do not know what to say about this innocent child. It's sad it takes a little girl's death to donate to charity. People should be donating because of the cause.
Problem is, they don't actually own a lot of those resources, or can't extract them due to lack of facilities and capital. And a lot of those resources require further processing in other facilities they don't have and can't afford to build.
So an international company comes in, buys the rights, hires on the locals for primary activity, but most of the money made off of processing and selling for example, oil and diamonds, ends up going into the foreign company's home country. See how it's hard?
How does she equal them?
If you help 100 people, does that mean you are worth 100 people? It makes no sense.
