I definitely prefer analog cameras because with analog cameras, I can get a lot more depth, details and tonal range. B&W film rolls are my favorite. The prints are fabulous and the viewer can notice a deeper intensity of reality.

    • @JoGeierChannel

Best value in terms of holding its value? Leica M3 / M6. Best value in terms of outcome of images vs. costs of film and development. Leica M digital. But we always recommend all-mechanical film cameras.

Great video. I love analogue cameras and analog photography. The beauty of analogue photography is that you almost are forced to study the techniques. You become much more aware of what you are doing. That is so different from work with digital cameras where you can take an endless number of images with different settings hoping to get that image which satisfies you.

Love the nostalgia of film camera to slow down and for special occasions. It’s a trip down memory lane for me rather than being trendy as I’m older and remember using them way before digital camera was invented.

From a repair perspective I really dont like the Leica M series as they are so precise the error margin is similarly low(literally 0mms for the first curtain when assembling it). The positive side is that one can get spare parts brand new (still dont know how to but I know its possible). The hype I think is worth it from a user perspective but when compared to other analog cameras I think only if you are more professional and your tools matter. The advantage is that you have a camera that doesnt lose value (actually gain value) and can be repaired with certainty. This I cannot say for any other analog camera as finding spares gets harder and harder. My favorite camera right now is Retina IIIC because it is on par with Leica Ms with the disadvantage of a fixed lens (lets be honest nobody actually uses the 35 and 80). Thanks for the great video :)

I hate the term “analogue” having taken on the meaning of “anything not digital” from about 1947 onwards; originally it sort of made sense in its original context of sliderules, but hasn’t made sense since.
I love film photography, without using any tools other than a light meter, where the image that is captured is all to do with my choices - for better or for worse. It’s the result of my mood, my thoughts, my eye. It could be me being “decisive” in that absolute second, or it could be me being intentional - for hours or weeks!
    - digital “oh this camera didn’t capture the picture the way I wanted it to, if I had the newer lens/camera/firmware”
    - film “yeah I didn’t get that quite right, now I think about it I should have used an ND, OR not wasted that shot - but it was a great day out anyway”
I find working with film and fully manual cameras is very much about “working within real boundaries, getting the most out of those intersections” whereas for many folk digital is “wishing the camera was better or someone has given me better presets”

One's favorite lens of course depends on the subjects being photographed. My favorite of all times is the 50 ~ 300mm f4.5 ED Zoom-Nikkor. I was doing an extensive amount of track and field photography. This zoom was perfect for these subjects. I grew to love the lens. There are cameras I could never get along with and are thus overrated for me - Alpa, Hasselblad and Contarex. For others these are perfect cameras. Digital cameras give you instant feedback. Digital cameras have video and audio built into the body. Digital cameras don’t require the image to be printed in order to see the image. With mirrorless cameras you can preview what the image will look like prior to pushing the shutter. Bad images can be deleted on the spot with a digital body.
Overrated compared to co$t? Leica comes to mind. They are too expensive for what they are.
