you can tell some of the asian languages between each other pretty easily - japanese has a lot of squiggly lines, korean circles and a lot of straight lines, chinese really detailed.
Also the phone codes in Japan are pretty easy to learn.
It starts with 01 in the north and goes down to 09 in the south.
