usually i insist 'beginners' D24 as it is sweet and pretty fleshy. this is to introduce and develope the flavour pallete to the 'cheap cuts'. after that would be the D101 and D111, followed by Tekka (D160) and Musang King (D197) and lastly Blackthorn. These are good and readily available durians to note for flavour profiles and can be the basic referance when eating other new species (123 types) you have yet to sample. :)

As a native malay Malaysian, I only eat durian kampung with really pale yellow color, because I only love that level of smell and taste 😁 any stronger I don't like haha
Finally your durian video is here, i also use cleaver to open the durian but with a wet rags to hold it, an easier way to open durian is to use the flat surface of the cleaver to smack the surface around the bottom durian, this is to loosen the skin to make it easier to open and the thorn wont be that sharp anymore, then finally use the edge of the cleaver at the bottom center of the durian, stab it and twist, practice makes perfect

FYI there are more than 200 species of durians in Malaysia… among all Black Thorn and Musang King are the Top quality durians. They are different in terms of the taste and textures, hence the price varies! XO is bitter, 101 sweet… when you try different varieties, always start with the lighter taste first and eat top grade durian like Musang King last!
You dont go out of your to buy durian because it is literally everywhere! It comes to you lol 😂. I bet Singaporean was lagging several weeks before they get their hands on these babies lol. Heard Pahang variety is a good one. Nestle Musang King ice cream is not bad. Should try it. I'm the odd one in family where I only eat one durian I wanna say pod (not too crazy about it, but don't mind eating it. I prefer something crunchy like carrots or apple 😅😂).
To get rid off smell.....wash hand under running water over the back of the prickly spikes of the durians. Smell will neutralize in seconds in comparison to washing smeel off wth soap.
I remembered opening durian using spoon when I'm in boarding school, because we dont have a knife. At that time my school bought a lorry full of durians.

You done a good job by opening the durian Malaysian durian actually taste great. Besides Musang King there are other type like D24, red prawn, black thorn, and many other.
The correct way is to hold the durian husk straight, let the water wash the outer shell (the prickly part) and you wash your fingers below the shell not in the shell. You drink from in the shell to cool down the heat.

I think the durian is not really pure musang king! The seed are way too big for MK, should be thin & small...should check carefully, a lot of hybrid musang king, grade.
you should try durian with sticky rice. with a bit of warm coconut milk with pinch of salt in the coconut milk and bit of sugar. my style of eating durian. idk. its just, next lvl beb. next lvl.

You heat a coconut milk, and mix durian with it 😂 add sugar or a pinch of salt to your taste. If you want it more fancy, you can use brown sugar or add pandan leaf. Either way, it's the best

to crack open,next time try this (for right handed):- 1. wear LH thick cotton glove or small towel,enough to hold durian with its bottom facing to your right in 30°-45° upright position. 2. maintain to use that type of blade..as long as it's a thick blade. 3. almost 2 inches from center bottom (the star),stick in the tip blade approx 1 inch into its one of visible groves @ portion lines. 4. slowly push to move the tip blade to the center. 5. carefully twist downward tip blade + rotate blade counterclockwise,intentionally splitting 2 portions at the same time (not only 1 portion) from the remaining bigger portions. Make the split happen. 6. if needed,stick tip blade slightly deeper & repeat 1 @ 2 times step 5. 7. once the 2 portions had split (approx 4-5 inches in length) with a small opening & enough to hold the opening with finger tips,finally do as what u did (firmly pull outwards using both hands) to totally splitting @ crack open the durian. ...btw,congrats cuz u had managed to handle a man's job.
My kinda Durian is D24 and the most I could go is IOI. Musang King, Black Thorn has this sweet-bitter taste, whereas the D24 is sweet and creamy. If you're lucky, durian kampung can also be as good as those expensive ones, with rich yellow colour, thick flesh and creamy taste. Oh boy.

I am so happy you like durians. And looks like you live it. Only remember this. Your glove is dirty after you touched the outside of the durian. And then you pick up the inner seeds with the same glove. Then, you eat with the glove on. You should take out the glove when you hold the seeds.
You shud cover 1/2 of the durian w folded towel or cloth… that way u can hold the durian wo poking ur hand… n the durian stalk u split it 1/2 way n put it in between car aircond vent to get rid of the durian smell…. Petua org2 tua… hmmm craving yeee… is there something inside?? 🤔🤔🤔😜😜😜

I am so happy you like durians. And looks like you live it. Only remember this. Your glove is dirty after you touched the outside of the durian. And then you pick up the inner seeds with the same glove. Then, you eat with the glove on. You should take out the glove when you hold the seeds.
