    RE: The dog with boobs, Basset Hounds actually used to have skin folds in the neck area/just under the jaw that looked a lot like what is shown in that drawing. And of course, they're known (like all hound breeds) for loud baying, which the open mouth and forked tongue in the image might represent. Modern breeding has reduced the skin folds beneath the chin, as well as the length of their legs (they used to be taller) and introduced other issues. But as soon as I saw the 'booby dog,' I immediately thought of Basset Hounds.

    • @andrewfuller9156
      @andrewfuller9156 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Thanks for clearing up the mystery of that bizarre image. But I can't help thinking that knowing this takes away some mystique. We moderns can no longer look down on old-timey folk for believing in something when we know it actually existed. A busty bound with a forked tongue would make a much more interesting cryptic than the Jersey Devil itself. 😀

    iirc from another story, that's not what Mother Leeds said, not entirely. A lot of her other children died young (infant or toddler) from illness (as is what happened back then), so when she found out she was pregnant with her 13th child she pleaded "Let them be healthy, or if they are not, let them be a devil." or something along those lines. Probably a good thing Simon's daughter learnt about how terrible peacocks are in a controlled environment. I was going for a walk along down my quiet, country road one morning when I was about six years old, when the neighbours' new peacock/peahen pair charged out from behind a tree and tried to rearrange my little face. I ran all the way home screaming, and they chased me to my house. They only turned around and left because my dog came charging out barking, and chased them away.

    about a decade ago I was working a music festival in the Pine barrens where my dad was coming to pick me up but pulled into the wrong road that led to him getting stuck in sand. He called for a tow truck that couldnt find him and then it got dark and he called me up and was freaking out. He said he thinks he is looking at the Jersey Devil. he described it as glowing eyes and a mouth that was full of fire.
    my dad was not the type of person to just say shit like this and he was afraid to get out of the car to pee. he finally got out while on the phone with me and he said it was back ducking between the trees. next thing I know I hear a blood curdling scream followed by my dad rushing to get back in the car. next thing that happened was a huge bolt of lightning and it instantly started to pour a rain so heavy that if you were in a storm like this for 10 minutes you would remember it for the rest of your life. it went on for hours. everywhere on the property was covered by a foot of water in seconds and went on and on.
    the next morning after finally getting pulled out he made it to me. I can tell he was really terrified and was never the same. he then developed dementia and im left with a horror story that I will always remember.

I was part of a fire dancing group that performed during in the inner circle at burning man. i never practiced to much in breathing but i was able to do it after an hour of practice for a quick performance but i was nowhere need a pro at it. it is fun. fire swallowing is cooler to me especially if you can learn to tunnel.

We went to Edinburgh zoo and he spent a large time chasing pigeons, shouting chicken chicken. We went to an animal park which had more free range animals He chased some chickens. Then he saw the Peacock and started chasing it really excited shouting chicken loudly, the Peacock allowed him to chase for a couple of minutes, then stopped, turned and chased after him. It was very sketch showesk.

    Sometimes, weird unexplainable stuff happens. I don't particularly believe in the NJ devil, but I've had my laptop knocked off my lap, something sitting on my bed, stuff just fall, unexplained scratches show up. My ex said the back of her knee was burning. On the backside of her knee where 6 scratches, three straight down and 3 curved across. She was wearing capries. If you've had any training in abuse, you'd know the backside of the knee is the least likely place for bruises or scratches to appear. My boy suddenly started crying while we were having dinner. He had two scratches across the back of his neck. There is the chance that he had a stringed backpack and might have rope burned his neck, but he would have probably noticed the burn before we sat down and had dinner.

    One of our favorite stories to tell is about the time my daughter was properly attacked by our peacock. She was nearly 2 years old, and the peacock had just begun to show off some fancy feathers, but it was not to be. She had some pretty nasty pecks all over her head, including one directly above her eyebrow, and some bruising and scrapes on her shoulders where he'd dug in his claws, but she's all better now. I love that this channel takes a level headed aproch to these topics that most media covering alleged supernatural events don't. Getting down to the origins of these myths and trying to sort out why they still continue is a part of cryptid lore that isn't often discussed either. Two points: 1) Most of the time when people pass out due to a sudden shock or fright, they tend not to recall the actual act of passing out (as opposed to when people pass out more gradually from a recurring medical condition), but they do tend to remember what shocked or frightened them. Thus, _"I got scared - and then it flew away,"_ can be put down to their having passed out, and filling in the gaps after waking up. 2) There are countless verifiable sightings of animals, which belong to a normally-quadruped species, learning to walk on their hind legs only, do their front legs being disabled or defective in some way. When both these points collide [POOF] Jersey Devils appear!
