I remember drilling some of the bee boxes as well as planting, mulching and watering them trees. Carrying those 20 litre jerry cans up from the pond in winter was an absolute killer!!
instead of moving away from the micro troughs, drill a hole through a normal trough, and mount them to it, as then they will have a backup water catch, so they have emergency water. They will learn which one tastes best quickly enough. Less waste this way, and they can self regulate.
