    I'm Dutch so obviously just a bit more of a Max than a Lando fan (but can anyone possibly NOT like him?), but Max clearly went a bit too far defending here, and the penalty seemed fully justified to me. That said, rergardless of the outcome I very much enjoyed the fight, with both being very agressive (as they should!) and right on or in that last case just a bit over the line. That's what's racing is all about. As long as they're not sending each other straight into the barriers at 300 km/h, I'm all good with it.
    As for Lando to DNF, I guess this also shows at what point in their carreer they are. Both had damage, Max brought the car back and made the most of it, Lando let the anger get the better of him, drove back like a madman and destroyed his car in the proces. Understandably, but still.
    And pretty sure their friendship will survive. I bet their next sim race will be a blast to watch though 😆

      Nice to see some balance from a max fan. For me you truly learn the character of a racer and person in life, under duress. Anytime max has to compete he simply runs people off the road and provides a racing ultimatum. It’s ugly to me but it sure was entertaining racing. I don’t think their friendship will survive though. Primarily they are driven to win and max seems willing to punt anyone off to get his way. He is single minded, ruthless and unrepentant. I have never seen him admit his was in the wrong nor apologies regardless of how blatant the transgression might be. Also that McLaren is fast now so this may be an every week thing.

If Lando wants to compete on that level, he'll eventually will do the same. or will always keep playing second fiddle. Not just against Max, but against anyone who's fighting for the absolute top.
      Lando today was attacking like Max would. Unfortuinately for him, he met someone defending like Max would, and it eventually all ended in tears. Won't be the last time, and it won't always be Max to blame. It would mean we get a great title fight though, and I'd love to see Lando truly step up to that.

    • @kylem324
      @kylem324 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The one thing I am left wondering about is after the contact, with max having the unseated rear tire, was he attempting to push Lando off the track? As it turned out Lando had a catastrophic failure and destroyed his own car and ultimately wouldn’t have the pace, but in the moment it looked like he might be able to overtake and max was pushing him off the track potentially leading to a second crash.
      It was great television, but those actions after the crash… it’s uneasy to think there was possibly some underlying malice there.

Michael was not the cleanes, but neither is Lewis, especially not Max who is very dirty and we saw it again today. Max under preasure doesn't like to be under preasure because he treats it like stock car. 10 sec today was a joke. 10 sec should be given for weaving the many times he did. I know this cost Norris points but in the future Verstappen will know that Norris just won't fold when dicing with him. As far as Verstappen rarely being held accountable for his dodgy driving; could it be that the FIA just doesn't want to deal with Jos and his oft time violent behavior? Not that he doesn't know anything about racing, he obviously was reasonably mediocre, but he can't make a fair analysis without properly looking at the footage. If you would actually do that then you would also see how ridiculous Lando's whining was. Max had the corner, he dictates where he positioned himself. Bar one iffy manoeuvre all the other instances were him opening up his corner at the last moment to load up his tyres for maximal mechanical grip. That is why they didn't intervene because Lando's moves were increasingly desperate and alot of the same. It's not easy being in his position and unfortunately the one time Max actually drove pretty fair and mature, you still manage to blame him for moving one meter to the right or left over a distance of 30 meters. Watch the replay from the overhead shot, not the TV shot, but there's one that's from the helicopter I think. Max isn't moving under braking, he's chosen his line, which is to slowly squeeze Norris so he gets no room to move, and there's the slightest bit of wheel to wheel contact, which honestly, I'm pissed at Pirelli because under that force, if it's just wheel to wheel contact, no floor cutting the tyre, that's pretty bad that the tyres can fall apart like that. If it had been 2016 Austria, Rosberg vs Hamilton kind of contact, then maybe, but there isn't anything overly wrong with the incident.

    So, I'm neither a massive max supporter. nor a massive land supporter
    I maintain max has a worse reputation than he really deserves, cosideringn how good certain former 7 time world champions struggle to race clean when battling
    I have staunchly defended max multiple times for some of his combat in the 2021 season, but today i think max wass at fault and deserves a harsher penalty than he got today
    In the most basic of terms, max caused a collision that ended another car's race today (ant davidsons analysis sums it up entirely)
    He moved 3 separate times under breaking when lando tried to get passed, as well as retaining the position off track after Lando had completed the move (Austria GP 2019 - made norris overtake legal) - it should have been ended there - and max should have been given the black and white flag for dangerous driving if he didn't hand the place back.
    This wasnt a punt or crashtappen striking again, asnd honestly looked like an attempt at squeezing lando out done badly - but max did destroy another cars race, and there has to be a deterrent for driving this way - world champ or not - and most of all he needs to accept some responsibility for it - his post trace interviews he immediately went on the defence despite not having watched it back - which when you turn out ot be wrong doesnt look good

      What about the previous incidents on previous laps where Max was moving under braking? or after the collision where max was weaving all over the road to continue to block Norris even though max had damage (Lando's manifested a few seconds later)? Max was driving dirty for like 15 minutes leading up to that. I re-watched and counted at least 4 penalties for Max. Idgaf about either of the drivers, but this inconsistent application of the rules whenever it involves the wonderkind is just... frustrating.

Also Verstappen hardly has been the only champion in history who does whatever it takes. Besides extreme situations; if you want to be the champ, you better put your big boy pants on. Which was a lesson Lando had to learn the hard way; though I think their friendship will be fine. Of course the always soy and uber biased English media are loosing their marbles, and most likely will continue to do so for some time; but the rest of the world will move on pretty quickly. Bruh, this is not NASCAR, this is F1 we are talking about. This was not the hard racing people want to see. This was just dirty defending. Plain ass dirty, and Max got away way to easy with it. 10 sec is a joke for causing a dricer a dnf, especially a driver that was directly racing you. Should be 5 to 10 place penalty. I don’t think the 10s penalty was too much since they have decided to have harsher penalties this season. If I remember correctly this was requested by the drivers. There has been a couple other ones already where the penalties felt harsh this season. Max’s defending was ugly so he gets 10s, that is f1 2024.

    The collision is absolutely Max´s fault and I cannot see how anyone would argue otherwise. Max just literally moved into Lando while they were alongside. Everything before is the cause (aka what caused Max to lose his calm and go back to his typical antics from his rookie years, that is), and those moves were just overambitious and honestly just bad from Lando´s part, but the lap of the actual collision, Lando did nothing wrong, just normal racing maneuvering. Max just decided to go where Lando was and crashed into him, there is no argument to defend Max for the collision.
