    "Just because something is wholesome and cute doesn't mean you need to give up on depth" YES this is why I get so annoyed with a lot of "cozy fantasy" because I feel like I keep finding the stuff that is just fluffy and cute and doesn't have much behind it. Terry Pratchett and Diana Wynne Jones are where it's at as far as cozy fantasy goes, and thankfully they both wrote a lot of books!

    • @Sandreline
      @Sandreline ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It's funny you say Diana Wynn Jones, because Fire and Hemlock was my favorite of hers growing up and it is absolutely not cozy. 😅

    • @beanbagbooks
      @beanbagbooks ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@Sandreline I love that one! Somehow Jones can bring out the human elements in even layered, messy coming of age stories like that one. She doesn't heap the sugar on the way a lot of cozy fantasy writers do, which I think is why I like her. I wish more people knew about Fire and Hemlock, the Howl series is great but she wrote a lot more

    For cozy fantasy my favorite has to be Howl's Moving Castle. The banter is A+ and it has all the right vibes: a magical home, quirky characters, and hilarious writing. I had the book on my shelf for years before I read it and I can't believe it took me so long to get to it. It's so lovely.

    Legends and lattes is a good example of how people shouldn't be scared to write short stories, sometimes certain ideas work better in a shorter form. I think it would have worked well in a collection of short feel good fantasy stories.

    For the milk to go all cloudy and swirly you need to steam it first, and add it all at once at the end when it's been steamed so there's a separation initially :) will make the drink taste even better too because the process should change the taste of the milk slightly too!

    If you want to read Terry Pratchett's Discworld, do!! But I also really recommend Good Omens, which was co-written by Neil Gaiman. I really can't understand why so few people talk about Terry Pratchett. His books are absolutely brilliant, witty, funny and relatable, even tho they are set on a literal Discworld, and are about wizards, witches, trolls, gnomes and so on. He wrote about little things that mattered, coz those things composed the grand scheme of things, and about the transcendency of love for... well, anything and anyone, really. I've read all of the Discworld series (over 40 books), some of them twice, and will probably continue rereading them in the future for years to come. Highly recommend.

    so to make your drinks aesthetically pleasing like they do at coffee shops, you need to pour the milk slowly and over something. so like if it's iced, pour the milk exactly on one of the cubes slowly so it doesn't completely mix with the matcha or coffee. if not iced, take a spoon, turn it rounded side up, lean it on the side of glass and pour on it, also slowly if i haven't said that enough :)))

    Highly recommend the Witches subseries by Terry Pratchett with the new audiobook production by Indira Varma. Perhaps the best narrator I’ve heard yet, she tackles so many different characters with so much humour! The witches are funny, have depth, and it’s not sicky sweet or too cheesy so it doesn’t strike me as being quite like the other books you read. Wyrd Sisters is a good place to start with the books. Even though his books are a series, they are also all standalones so you can start wherever you like. Wyrd sisters is the second book in the Witches subseries, but it’s the one where the plot really takes off with all three of the fun witches. Equal Rites is more of a prelude to Wyrd Sisters and is considered book one in the Witches subseries.

    Legends & Lattes is ASMR in book format. I read the word "decadent" and was instantly reminded of Articulate Design. Bringing up or giving more space to heavier topics would have deducted from the general spirit of the book. And given the type of transitions that you use (serving tea, lighting candles, etc.) I'm surprised you didn't mention this connection. Oh well, I guess that wasn't what you were looking for in this book.

    Usually the milk in lattes is steamed (if it's a hot latte), which changes the flavour and consistency of the milk.
    Usually there is little to no added water to a latte. In coffee lattes there is just an espresso shot and steamed milk, and with tea you use a roughly 50/50 ratio of hot water and milk, (though i have seen tea bags added directly to the steamed milk as well).
    With cold lattes the milk is usually agitated with a frother to make it more foamy.
    If you are an earl grey fan, I'd highly recommend a London Fog. Super tasty.

Sometimes it was a bit flat and the feel-good-messages to in-ya-face and ovious for my liking but I didn't expect this to be the next masterpiece of the century. just something that I could read on a cozy afternoon and it was exactly that :) it also helped me get out of a reading slump so that was a bonus. I love your videos. I was in a slump. I haven't really read any book since December. And I was feeling down lately. I guess reading will cheer me up, so I started watching your videos again to get inspired

    The Girl Who Drank The Moon is a really nice cozy fantasy book. The writing style is unique and almost poetic. It is touching and wholesome but in no way superficial way, it explores a lot of darker themes in a lyrical sort of a way. I'm not a big fan of sweet books either but I found that this particular book had just the right amount of sweetness. (I did find it a little long drawn somewhere near the end but it's a nice read overall)

    If you're looking for your latte to have separation, try frothing the milk first or using oat milk creamer. The liquids have to be different densities. It is a lot harder to do with oat milk and without special equipment.

    PLEASE read some Terry Pratchett!! Hands down fav author. All his stories take place in the same world, I personally love the Witches series, the Death series, and the Tiffany Aching series! Still making my way through the rest lol

    Thank you for your video! Love to see the snow adding a dash of coziness 🕯️☕️. I have not read any of the books mentioned yet but I do own legends&latte and irregular witches. I was saving them to read in the fall for cozy vibes but now I’m tempted to read them at once.

    I'm really glad you liked House in the Cerulean Sea!!! It's honestly one of my favorite books, ever! If you want something a little darker, a little grittier, you should try Under the Whispering Door - also by TJ Klune! It is definitely a cozy fantasy but it's not as light hearted as Cerulean Sea is.

    This was a fun video. I liked the mix of a vlog style and you talking about the books as you read them. Just a nice surprise. If we didn't get snow all season and it finally stayed, I'd be happy like you as well! Thanks for your review on these books. It's very helpful in letting me decide whether I'd want to try them or not. I chuckled when you said that reading two happy/cozy books in a row might already be too much. I felt like that when I was trying a lot of christmas romance books last December.

    I really wish that hardback Legends and Lattes was available in the US. 😭In all seriousness though, I'm kinda like you where I can read endless dark books but give me two happy books in a while and I feel like I'm getting a cavity haha. I still might give these a try though, I've been watching the Cozy Fantasy trend from a distance for a while and it seems interesting.

    Thanks for reviewing these! I’ve been curious and honestly I could really do with a chill zero angst read. However, this brings to mind an idea? I don’t know if it’s possible but a poll of suggestions of the worst books we’ve ever read and suggest you give them a try to read whichever book/series wins the poll?

    I recommend Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull, and its sequel series Dragonwatch. i read Fablehaven when I was in junior high butI still love it and since then, I think I've read it at least once each year. It's such a comfort read for me! I can read the whole series with no effort even if I'm in a reading slump and I definitely think you'll like it!

    TJKlune's humor is amazing! I don't recommend reading his books in public, I ended up laughing out loud while I was on the train and people looked at me very weird LOL I've been dying to read The House in the Cerulean Sea for so long but I'm afraid I overhyped it in my head and will never live up 😭😭 Beautiful video as always!!💫

    Terry Pratchett has so many great stories in his Discworld. My favorite characters are the witches, esp those in the Tiffany Aching arc. "The Wee Free Men" is a great place to start and the audiobooks are fantastic!

    At the time I happen to read "Half a Soul" by Olivia Atwater and that is definitely a cozy fantasy but also with heavy themes throughout - the emotional distance and inability of the main character to fit in makes her quite relatable, I love her

    if someone wants a (somewhat) cozy fantasy manga with amazing art, well written characters and a beautiful story, you can read Witch Hat Atelier! its about a human girl becoming a witch while being in an atelier under a teacher and 3 other students. the characters and traumas of each one is in depth and noone feels shallow, and theres so much diversity between each character. highly recommend!!

    I agree with what you said about humor in books!! A lot of the time it feels like books will say something funny and the overall vibe is like “please clap” 😂 but when books just happen to be funny, it is different somehow

    There are so many great cozy fantasy recs already in these comments, so I am going to divert from those and recommend a cozy sci-fi. Becky Chambers is a cozy author favorite of mine, she has written several books that fit this vibe, the most recent being the A Psalm for the Wild-Built, but you should also check out The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, which is book 1 in the Wayfarer's books. They all kind of fit the vibe, but they are not sequential, you can read them out of order or pick and choose which to read. (I personally liked book 1, 2 and 4 best, which 2 being my favorite).
    All of them have amazing world-building and interesting quirky characters, they also have lots of cool alien races and great conversation topics. Specifically, she addresses otherness, bigotry, morality, what makes a human a human etc. But all of this is handled in a non-violent way where people just discuss their issues instead of try to kill each other.

    Because I’ve just recently started to read books as a joyous pastime. I do not know how to browse for interesting books because I don’t judge things on a front cover, but the only way to judge a book browsing is by looking at the front cover so it’s a bit of an oxymoron.
    I got a free cozy fantasy on the kindle called The Bookshop and the Barbarian by Morgan Stang. I’m currently reading it and I’m so thrilled to say that I’ve found my genre. I’m going to shop a lot more in this type of reading and I’m glad that there are books for me.
