Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 25 year old girl from the Netherlands who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave).

ONE PIECE ON NETFLIX IS AMAZING! PIRATES FRIENDS HOPE
Leonie first going for a book shopping spree and after that checking if she already has any books to read at home is such a mood
That's the spirit of a bookworm xD
is there really another approach to being a bookworm? 😆the collection must grow!
That was my first thought lmao
the funniest thing about this video is how quintessentially northern european you are with showing off your dark green candles, its so cute, and as a lebanese person who grew up with candles being a symbol of poverty and general nation wide economic collapse, i find it really endearing and lovely
AUTUMN IS A TIME FOR MAGIC
✨🍂🍁
The Raven Cycle is literally your vibe: magical forest, very atmospheric, vivid and dreamlike (pun intended), found family. I cannot recommend it enough!!!!!
Oooh thank you for commenting this that makes me really want to read it!!
Yes 1000%!!!! I love that series so much that my handle is a short quote that one of the characters would say all the time 😭💖💖
YES!!! the craziest thing tho is that a few years ago she said in a video that she began TRB and stopped after the FIRST chapter cuz she thought she would't like it :(
The Raven Cycle is one of my favorite series!!!! The characters are written so well, the vibes, the magical realism. Everything.
This is my favorite! Everything about the series was just so good ✨️
The last 100 pages of Jane Eyre is actually the best part I can’t wait for you to read it
As an Erin Morgenstern, Neil Gaiman and T. Kingfisher unofficial spokesperson I can't WAIT for you to read these books, you're going to have so much fun. The autumn vibes are unmatched.
LOL, I have never phrased it this way but, I too am an unofficial spokesperson for these three authors.
erin morgenstern needs to release another book i need her
The Night Circus is too fucking good, I always tell people the fall and magic vibes are immaculate
reading in autumn is just a whole different vibe
I will one day move to Europe just so I can experience fall and read and drink tea while watching the autumn leaves in all their golden hued glory.
I think they have Autumn in other places too
@@LJW1912 Not here!
Don't move to Spain or the south of Europe in general. I live in Spain and there's no autumn, like maybe 2 weeks depending of the year. I need more autumn vibes😢
i recommend english autumns, just let anyone catch you calling it fall instead of autumn! 😂
@@sanchezafelix508i live in Mallorca and it's so sad how there are no autumnal colors at all, just naked trees 😭
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but Leonie looks like if the season Autumn was a person.
I was literally thinking about how the colouring of her features are so naturally autumnal, it's perfect
I laughed SO HARD at the Jane Eyre shame story. Honestly iconic.
Also, like another commenter, I too get very jealous at people from the northern hemisphere around this time of year with their cold weather and orange leaves. We only get hot, humid and floods. However, I will still make an "autumn tbr" out of spite for nature.
If it makes you feel any better half of us have the orange leaves for 5 minutes (if at all) and then it’s bitter cold, grey, icy wasteland for 7 months solid 😂
@@jacforswear18 it does, actually 😂😅
Wuthering Heights and Rebecca are perfect autumnal books 📕🌾🍁
Wuthering Heights is the perfect book if you hate yourself and everyone around you, and desperately wish to punish yourself for 9 hours straight 😅 (I truly DESPISED this book more than the characters did each other 😂)
@@corinna_maybeSo true😂 I remember being half-way though and actually screaming that they needed to shut up and live their lives
Neil Gaiman at 4:02 made me chuckle, idk if Leonie didn’t see them or they just weren't the vibe she was looking for
I think she wanted secondhand
The fact that you’ll finish Jane Eyre in the fall season is wayyy better than having finished it during any other one. So yay for youu
Also a dowry of blood is iconic
coraline is a must-read if you’re looking for autumnal gaiman books!
And the Graveyard Book! My personal favorite from Gaiman.
If the Assistant Villain is a bust, I recommend you check out Hench by Natalie Zina Walschot. It's about an accountant who gets very badly injured by a superhero on a rescue mission and then she realizes that superheroes actually do more damage than is justified by their heroism, so she joins one of the mastermind villains to try and stop them. It's very good and I really enjoyed the concept!
Autumn is the only season I never complain about. Autumn Supremacy!
Emily Wildes Enzyclopedia of Faeries is also autumnal cozy 😍
leonie is honestly the queen of cozy autumnal vibes
Crime and punishment is a hard book in itself even for those who knows the language. We had to read it in school and our teacher also asked us to read another book, which is like a guide to get through the symbolism in C&P.
Most of the classics we read felt tedious, after all it's different when you're reading not for entertainment, but more for thinking, but the one thing I liked about high school is that this teacher, despite being very demanding, she managed to create interesting projects, like several groups did mapping for different battles from War And Peace, or we put up a small play for another author stuff like that.
what was the title of the book/guide you used to navigate the symbolism?
@@jmsl_910 oh dear, I wish I could help you with it, but I don't remember (it was a little too long ago) and many of my notes from school were disposed of. Also I highly doubt this book has a translation into other languages.
BUT! Not to leave you on a sad note I can share few things I remember. The numerology in the book is connected to church/religion. The red colors are obvious, the yellow colors are about madness, because asylums were painted in yellow.
I don't remember if it was in the book or part of the discussion (prob both) that you could perceive his meticulousness in details, how he knows the route by heart, to the number of steps on a staircase, till the moment Raskolnikov kills. There is also detail about the blunt and sharp side of the axe to show his state. Well, there are many more, but I remember too little.
@@Givebackthescarf But novels then and novels now actually do tend to explore the gray area of some characters, aren't they? I feel like I've said something too obvious, but! With C&P the whole novel, as we often repeated during the class, can be squeezed into a phrase (loosely translated as) - am I a lowly shivering beast or I have the right. You know in many cases modern villains go step by step from the bottom of society and they were also poverty-driven one day. It's a pity that English doesn't distinguish between two words нищета and бедность, which both can be translated as poverty, but they have a bit different meaning and Dostoevsky himself has a quote about the two, that "poverty (бедность) is not a sin, but poverty (нищета) is", since the second one when a person, according to him, loses the last bit of human dignity. Of course such things can't really impress a modern reader, yet I still think it's worth exploring how authors tried to explore such topics back then.
Carmilla and Masters of death are on top of my autumn tbr. Carmilla is the first vampire book ever and it's sapphic so I'm very excited for it!
and now we need an autumn reading vlog!!🍂🍄✨
i can't help but save all the best books/5 star predictions for autumn it just hits different😭
definitely save The Starless Sea for winter!! the beginning of the book takes place in the winter and the rest of the book is super cozy. The Night Circus is a great winter read too if you haven't read it yet!
Ooh yes I’ve heard people say The Night Circus is great for fall as well!! I love both of them ❤
Autumn best season fr, Halloween and El día de los muertos on top. This will be my time to read Edgar Allan Poe personnaly 👍
Just when I thought I couldn't like you anymore--Autumn books are amazing! I agree with your parameters--spooky, academic, forest-related etc. For me too, certain historical fiction writers, especially ones involving Native Americans, also gives me an Autumn vibe.
YESSS FALL IS AMAZING!!! FALL IS THE BEST TIME TO READ ❤❤❤
I just finished The Assistant to the Villain and found to to be light and charming. It’s incredibly adorable. Perfect for early cozy reading. Nettle and Bone is just as charming and one of my favorites. Both are super quick reads in my own opinion. Have fun!
11:34 i agree -- a long series is for the winter when you are snowed in
that turtleneck, the auburn hair and imagining that the cup has pumpkin spice latte has the whole aesthetic of fall. You're just making me jealous girl !
“a far wilder magic “ by Allison Saft is a very autumnal book! I was actually pleasantly surprised when I read it. I also think “Smoke” by Dan Vyleta, “the blacktongue thief” by Christopher Buhleman , “ Jonathan strange & mr norell” by Susanna Clarke and “perfume” by Patrick Süskind really suit the season as well🍂
Ouhhhh Rebecca is so so good and the kind of book you instantly want to write an essay about
I love reading during fall🍂
Please please read “The Starless Sea” . It is a perfect autumn book ( perfect book in general). The vibes, the magic, the characters, the writing ! And the ending!? I’ve read hundreds of books but the starless sea is in my top 5 .
The Starless Sea is a book that is so close to my heart. But I think of it more as a winter read, not sure if that's because of the few snowy scenes, or because I read it then.
@@FaeryLaume I’ve read it in November and it was the perfect time . Late autumn, early winter
The Cloisters is really a summer book, it captures the summer heat in New York and the cool inside a museum in contrast to it so well.
The story of your life is such a good short story collection! I am so glad you get to experience it :]
Leonie!!! You are such a sweetheart! Thank you so much for lighting up our lives with your positivity, recommendations and lovely personality!
Continue shining and striving!
This marks around one year since I subscribed to your channel! I fell in love with your impeccable fall vibes and fall book recs last year ❤
ahh i looove fall and this video was so so so sooo perfect to start the season🍁🥰
Ooh yay! I was just rewatching your dark cottagecore video so this video came at a good time.
this is exactly the kind of video and the kind of books I need right now! Thank youu for your great content as always
I am loving this autumnal content 🍂 it’s my favorite reading season as well, and I’ve already busted out all of my cardigans 🕯️
Interview with the Vampire is a solid read. To this day, it is the only book that genuinely spooked me while reading it
ahh i love how cosy your videos are!!
love how you always mention books that I aren't found on typical lists ✨
Omg the starless sea is perfect for autumn! It’s one of my fav books of all time
the starless sea is definitely a good fall book, the scenery is so good!
leonie i absolutely adore your channel ❤i've been watching your videos for three years now and i love the atmosphere, your personality, and your book recommendations!! love you :)
So glad you mentioned Slewfoot! I’m reading it right now and I’m enjoying it so much!
I love your notions so much
your videos are so comforting and always put me in a good mood!
I really want my bedroom to have permanent autumn vibes and your background is inspiring me but I have no idea how or where to start!
Hurrah was looking for your fall book recommendations!! I just finished the truely devious series!
Yess omg I’ve been obsessed with the season of good omens 😭 now trying to find any book like it satisfy my soul
I love your channel so so much!! The whole vibes are amazing and i wish i could have those around and ofc the time for reading (yes i don't do so much good of a time management but you get it)
I can't wait for all the books i'll be ready for fall
Omg Leonie I hope you LOVE The Starless Sea!!! My favorite book ever! As you said, Erin Morgenstern is a STAR when it comes to writing atmosphere and the atmosphere of The Starless Sea is EVERYTTHIIIINGGG TO MEEEEE!!!!
Jane Eyre is peak autumnal vibes for me, so I would be super excited if I realized that I hadn’t finished it and got to read the ending for this first time this autumn 😊 how lucky that it turned out that way for you!
Belladonna is so good I can't wait for the next one!!
I picked up Assistant to the Villian a couple weeks ago and after I got home I read the author bio and saw it started on TikTok and I was instantly worried. However, by page five, I was laughing out loud. I really enjoyed it, easily one of my favorite this year. This is clearly going to be a series, though, and ends on a cliffhanger, so just be aware. I can't wait for the next one.
this is exactly the video I needed right now, thank youu 🤎🍂
Living vicariously through this autumnal video because its still 100 degrees where I am and the "cooler" days are still in the 90s :(
the way i've never experienced autumn season my entire life but still got excited when i saw the title of this vid 🤩 cozy fantasy is my fav as well so i just knew autumn is the superior season based on the vibes ☝️☝️
the way a book is translated totally impacts enjoyment. and I LOVED nettle & bone and slewfoot, I've read in the beginning of the year, and they are in my top 10 of 2023
Interview with the vampire is such a must! It’s the perfect combination of gothic vibe, philosophic conversations and a touch of quirkiness from the whole concept in itself. Though it gets a little slow in the second part, it quickly picks up again towards the end! One of my favorites!
It’s so funny you got The House Witch bc just a few days ago I got an ad for it on audible and added it to my wishlist ❤
Your videos are so atmospheric i love them 😍
House of hollow is perfect for a little spooky time! You NEED to read the starless sea but i think its better for a cold winter night, one of my all times favorites 😍
Blood Dowry, Juniper and Thorn, Mexican Gothic were perfect for fall/Halloween! Thank so much your book recommendations are just what I need for Fall 🍂
love your videos so much!!!!
Oh, I love autumn 🍂 😍
i totally recommend adding A Dowry of Blood to your autumn reading list! it's beautifully written, very autumnal and explores abusive relationships so well! the audiobook is fantastic too
I second this. I was in tears by page 17. Great book for chilly season
I'd love to have your notion setup as a template. about to dive into notion and yours is so clean and aesthetically pleasing.
Belladonna was really fun. Very YA feel, but a super fun gothic story. I very much recommend for a quick, fun, easy read. Rebecca is super fall. More of a slow pace because it's all about slowly building tension.
LOVED this video! I've read so many of the ones you've mentioned but i reallyreally hope you love Dowry!
I loved the video, that was exactly what I needed to start September 😍 also, I read Strange the Dreamer, and while I agree that it was very atmospheric, it felt more like a summer book to me, so maybe that would be a read for the start of autumn when it’s still warm
OMG I have never seen anyone outside Horror Book circles speak about Slewfoot! It was a 5 star read for me. You will enjoy it.
I loved Nettle and Bone. I haven’t read all of her fantasy, but I love that her main characters all tend to be really kind.
I loved The Cloisters! It is very slow paced though. But the mystery, the setting, and the atmosphere intrigued me enough to continue reading.
i highly recommend the shadow of the wing and before the coffee gets cold for autumn too
Ngl, i watch Leonies videos half for the amazing book recs and reviews and half for outfit inspo
Ahhhh The Starless Sea is a PERFECT AUTUMN READ!!! It’s so so atmospheric I adore it
Fall/Vanitas is just a mood
it's so cute how she said taming of the shrew but meant turn of the screw, and called it spooky, lol (taming of the shrew is technically a comedy)
you gotta get on Annihilation, that book is so trippy, lol,
Fall is MY absolute favorite season!! 😁😁🍁🍁🍂🍂
If we were villains is a fantastic book for autumn! I’m in love with this season 🍁 ❤️
Just finished that one and LOVED IT
I just read Brom's Slewfoot and absolutely devoured it, loved it. An absolutely fantastic book!
I’m angry at myself, that it took me 27 years to find your channel. Thank you so much for your content 💙
you are my fave booktuber. you are smart & funny and you have your OWN vibe🩵🩵🩵
Autumn is the best reading season 🍂
Alot of these I've either read or have on my tbr! So many good books.
The Will of The Many is a new one Im interested in reading that I feel will be a good fit for autumn 😊
I can't wait for A Study in Drowning, I have very little interest in dark academia, but her previous two books are two of my all-time favorites and I'm pretty sure she'll knock it out of the park again. So excited!
Omggg I've recently read What Moves the Dead and I think Leonie would love it 😩👌🏻 super recommended
I love the house witch! I hope you like it too!
I read an ARC of Study in Drowning, and you are absolutely going to love it. It's fantastic, very gothic vibes. 25:43
I love how you upload this right when summer is giving an encore. I'm currently reading The Honeys by Ryan La Sala and it also kinda reminds me of Bunny, but it's set at a summer camp so it's perfect for right now. And it's queer 👌
I loved The Cloisters! I read it over the summer 🫶
the starless sea is the most autumn book i've read. it's so cozy!
The effect of the translator is actually so interesting! I also read (and loved) crime and punishment this year, in Dutch, but I read my dad's old copy which was translated (by Jan Meijer) in the 1950's so the language was quite old-timey. For me this really added to the vibe (since it is a classic) and actually leant some comedic effect which I think the story (which admittedly is rather slow at times) really benefitted from, so you could always give older translations a go if the new one doesn't work out!
Slewfoot was awesome. I then went on a Brom reading spree. Slewfoot was the best of the lot. I really appreciate the list of new reads, I was in a slump. ❤
The Starless Sea and Strange the Dreamer are my top two favorites ever so I'm very excited for you to read them sometime. I will say that The Starless Sea is definitely winter vibes and Strange the Dreamer is more spring/summer to me. Hope this helps! 🍂
Yaaay! Loved this! This is goals for my own booktube channel, hehe (im getting there slowly 🐌) xoxo
