    Dave, thank you for this series of videos. The fan dipole I built using this balun had served me for over a year and is still going strong.

    Thank you Dave for this in depth series on Balun's. A 1:1 balun has always been something I thought as an important part of a dipole antenna system. These videos give the average amateur, like myself, the confidence to pursue the projects that are covered in the ARRL publications.

    Hi Dave, great video series. I greatly appreciated the detail handy work, start to finish you show,. Simple tricks, a lot of times missing from other videos to save recording time. I grabbed many of your techniques that I'll use. I agree with an previous reply that
    you give the average amateur a "how to DIY" confidence for homebrew projects.
    Thank you

    I followed this Build to its end; and I am at a loss why you went thru the trouble to 'notch' out tht 6" pipe on the connector side. There were no interference items in that end. Since I had done them, I added Eye Bolts to the connector end as well to tie cable strain reliefs to. Thanks for the awesome Project.

    Thanks a lot for this! Going to build my first 20m dipole soon, and wanted a neater solution than the "ugly balun" most people seem to go for. This is about as neat as you can get, says my limited experience.

    Was thinking instead of routing the wire from the case to the outside, why not use two studs and a wing nut or terminal connector? Then, when wiring the antenna, simply connect the wire to the external stud with the nut?

    Great video!! Going to start putting your 1:1 Balun together. Instead of bending wires on outside for connection, could they possibly be fed through the center and connected? Thank for all of your videos. You give me confidence in completed project will work.

    Would this also work with an SO239 at both ends? I already have an open feeder coming from my 1/2 sized wire dipole terminated in a PL259 so could join it there or would I need to remove the ribbon feeder wire?

    NOw I wanted to see you hook up the wire to the Dipole and set the SWRs with the analyzer and watch you adjust the lengths of wire and put it into operation on the band and see how many contacts it will actually make. So when is the rest of the video going to be made, Dave, Mr. KG0ZZ?

    Hi Dave, and thank you for your knowledge. Great videos. When using the so239 on the bottom, could it be done for the top as well? Not sure which wire to use on the center lead for the top. I'm gonna ohm it out to see which one to use. I can see this on a beam antenna, but not an omni directional antenna. I am planning on trying it on my 10 to 12 meter rig. Thanks again.

    Hello, i own a Cobra 146GTL, can i use this balun for 27Mhz band?
    The use of this is to balance the resistance of the RG58 cable (50OHM) to the resistance of the dipole (75OHM) ?
    Is it possible to have a schematic diagram of the coil?

    Why kept black wires out of the pvc pipe.it can be adjusted inside with the cap side screws and bolts you fitted on both side of cap.bolts are there inside the cap.you could have fitted the end of black wires inside the cap.

    carefully put a dab of crazy glue on the nut and screw it on the pl259 bulkhead connector., let dry, then remove the screw leaving the nut glued on the flange / bulkhead. It will make all the assembly much easier...

  • @GaryLordsWayMinistry
    @GaryLordsWayMinistry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Should have put your 259 tightening shield onto the 239 plug before tightening it so the plug would be centered in the hole before tightening the screws or the plug might be off centered and unable to tighten the 259 plug onto the 239 all the way tight due to being off centered, thus allowing water to infiltrate your Balun. Just a thought maybe you will luck out and not have to loosen the cap and re-center the 239 plug in the opening.

    He Dave, nice video! Can i get an oppinion on a balun vs ferrite beads? Ive red both keep RF feed out of the coax part (depents on the placing, but still). Are there any pros or cons over ferrite beads?
    If anybody else reads this, feel free to add your comments to the questions. All help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    • @umajunkcollector
      @umajunkcollector 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like ferrite beads, very simple, and no coils. The idea is to resist rf from radiating back down the coax so the antenna is least resistance, so the antenna trimming is important for a good match. If I use a balun, it is more for a transformer such as 4:1 or 6:1. I also like full wave loop antennas, so baluns are not needed. I try to avoid using matching tuners and baluns, but sometimes it is necessary do to antenna limitations. He did a nice job, and this is a kewl balun too. He was right about a balun being better than just coax direct to a dipole. I use a 4:1 balun on my 80m inverted v that is not center fed, I had to experiment with the feed point, but it's more broadband than the 1:1 center fed dipole was.
