Plot twist, the Outback Steakhouse in Aspley you went to ironically was a Lone Star Steakhouse previously many years ago, and was popular back then. Only scratched the surface of things. Sauce on the pies and sausage rolls is next level. And next time you must explore the pubs and their food, that's where the real outback steakhouses are.

I’ve lived 5 minutes from that Outback my entire life (my gym is literally in the drone shot) and drive past it every day and can confidently say I have never actually been. As soon as this dude said he was flying into Brisbane I knew it had to be “that random Outback in Aspley”. Sure enough it was. How utterly random. I’m an American who went to Australia when I was in the military and I loved it there. The people were fun and welcoming. I didn’t do any tourist activities though. Only things real Australians do every day. We went swimming at the Great Barrier Reef, took a tour of the Sydney Opera House, went to the top of Sydney Tower to see the city and went to a petting zoo in Hobart. I felt like I really got to experience Australian culture and all the country has to offer. Just like going to Outback Steakhouse.

I love it. You make a joke, people take it seriously, and you take it as a challenge not only to prove them somewhat wrong (which I know isn't the main point of the video). But you also explain your side well, take the opportunity to experience their culture even if it's at the surface, and have the time of your life with something that many could say was a once in a lifetime experience.
Very well made, I love how much your videos feel like a documentary/movie. Yes, a meat pie is usually eaten with a big dob of tomato sauce splashed on top. And as my father (who was an Irish immigrant) taught me as a kid, the measure of a true-blue Aussie was being able to eat a pie with sauce one-handed (and these were the old-school mass-produced square "footy pies" with a runny mince & gravy filling and a thin, soggy pastry base served in a shallow & fragile foil tray) without spilling the whole lot down the front of your shirt and into your lap; the reason why it was essential that you be able to achieve this one-handed was because you'd [naturally] be holding a frosty can of beer in the other hand.

As a Queenslander on the Gold Coast I find your pronunciation of Queensland is acceptable either way. Australian food - kanga bangers (kangaroo meat sausages) , meat pies, and we fight New Zealand about the origins of lamingtons and pavlova. Other than that, yep our food is what you'd find in the US or UK. Our bread doesn't tend to be as sweet as bread in the US.That pie looked like about a 6 to me too but the best pies are from Yatala - just off the freeway half way from Gold Coast to Brisbane. The "koala" signs are really warnings about drop-bears, an aggressive and carnivorous variety of koalas that our tourism industry suppresses information about, to avoid scaring off tourists. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay and i'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos!

I’m an American who luckily knows about the dangerous drop bear and i recently made a presentation to warn my friends about them. Sadly they didn’t take it seriously meaning that are more susceptible to an attack. Is it true that drop bears are more likely to attack those without Australian accents? Something about the comfort the drop bear gets from a non-foreign accent.

Outback was opened because a group of rich dudes wanted a spot to have drinks and a steak after a round of golf. It got it's theme becase Crocodile Dundee was SUPER popular while they were hatching their genius plan to eat and drink for free by building their own restaurant. I worked for one, and the brand is very proud of it's origin story, and it's a central part of the onboarding process when you're hired. Another fun detail that they're weirdly proud of-- an inventor local to their original location loved it and wanted to help them streamline the Bloomin Onion. He fabricated a customized potato cutter (like for fries). They didn't accept his invention because they didn't think it was worth paying for it (he offered it up VERY cheap). He spent so much time on it and had no other use for it, so he just gave it to them for free with 0 contract etc. Naturally they immediately got a patent and now it's a cornerstone part of their very dumb lore...

Fairy bread wow! Been so long since I had that, it's a staple at Aussie kids birthday parties / town fairs.. For anyone wondering, its white bread with butter and multi-colored cake sprinkles, with the crust cut-off and then sliced into long pieces.

This may have been pointed out in another comment, but I've made Bushman Bread (the bread you get at Outback).
The version you got for that meal is actually what the bread generally looks like. In the US, they add brown food coloring to get that dark look.
It's actually very easy to make at home, if you like it.

Yes "shrimp on the barbie " is from that commercial and from the guy in the commercial, Paul hogan. he used that phrase on australian TV in a comedy show and was asked to be a tourism ambassador and use it in ads for american TV. it led to him becoming famous here and even got him a few movies.

Grew up in the Sunshine Coast and it was so cool to see so many places I knew in one video. It was nice to see you enjoying it all. Just in case no one else commented, it was a passion fruit at the Cairns lunch you had.

Always find it very interesting watching Americans/ Canadians visit and review Australia. Just some fun educational facts for next time: Cairns is pronounced as CANS ( as in a can of beans) and not Karen’s and also the fruit that you referred to as a “ papaya” is actually a Passionfruit which is very different both in size, colour and shape. This was a wonderful vid!

The fruit at 21.36 is a passion fruit. The passion fruit (Portuguese: maracujá and Spanish: maracuyá, both from the Tupi mara kuya "fruit that serves itself" or "food in a cuia") is the fruit of a number of plants in the genus Passiflora.

Dude, this video was so freaking cool! I've been wanting to go to Australia for forever, and seeing you just randomly decide to go there on a whim was awesome. Also I appreciate how all out you seemed to go with the production values/editing. Sometimes the less immediately noticeable stuff like that can really make a difference.

Shrimp and prawns are not actually the same thing. Prawns tend to be larger than shrimp, and often taste sweeter. There are more varieties of shrimp, too. Both animals have 10 legs, but prawns have pincers on three pairs of legs, while shrimp just have one clawed duo.

@@mdvillalon IM AUSSIE AND LIVE HERE MATE. Just not a delusional one. Single cities in your Texas flag state has more culture and identity than Australia combined, you go to woolies/coles and get buy "southern style chicken" in the frozen food section, you are not getting South Australian style chicken, why is that, why do they not need to mention America? Cos again, we have no culture and identity, South is assumed to be Southern USA. This cannot work for say Italy where Southern Italy has its own cuisine identity. Having said all this I notice your flag is not Texas but Chile, regardless, was not making that a point anyway. Going to guess single Cities in Chile has more culture and identity than whole of Australia too.
