Plot twist, the Outback Steakhouse in Aspley you went to ironically was a Lone Star Steakhouse previously many years ago, and was popular back then. Only scratched the surface of things. Sauce on the pies and sausage rolls is next level. And next time you must explore the pubs and their food, that's where the real outback steakhouses are.

Yes, a meat pie is usually eaten with a big dob of tomato sauce splashed on top. And as my father (who was an Irish immigrant) taught me as a kid, the measure of a true-blue Aussie was being able to eat a pie with sauce one-handed (and these were the old-school mass-produced square "footy pies" with a runny mince & gravy filling and a thin, soggy pastry base served in a shallow & fragile foil tray) without spilling the whole lot down the front of your shirt and into your lap; the reason why it was essential that you be able to achieve this one-handed was because you'd [naturally] be holding a frosty can of beer in the other hand.

As a Queenslander on the Gold Coast I find your pronunciation of Queensland is acceptable either way. Australian food - kanga bangers (kangaroo meat sausages) , meat pies, and we fight New Zealand about the origins of lamingtons and pavlova. Other than that, yep our food is what you'd find in the US or UK. Our bread doesn't tend to be as sweet as bread in the US.That pie looked like about a 6 to me too but the best pies are from Yatala - just off the freeway half way from Gold Coast to Brisbane. The "koala" signs are really warnings about drop-bears, an aggressive and carnivorous variety of koalas that our tourism industry suppresses information about, to avoid scaring off tourists. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay and i'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos!

Outback was opened because a group of rich dudes wanted a spot to have drinks and a steak after a round of golf. It got it's theme becase Crocodile Dundee was SUPER popular while they were hatching their genius plan to eat and drink for free by building their own restaurant. I worked for one, and the brand is very proud of it's origin story, and it's a central part of the onboarding process when you're hired. Another fun detail that they're weirdly proud of-- an inventor local to their original location loved it and wanted to help them streamline the Bloomin Onion. He fabricated a customized potato cutter (like for fries). They didn't accept his invention because they didn't think it was worth paying for it (he offered it up VERY cheap). He spent so much time on it and had no other use for it, so he just gave it to them for free with 0 contract etc. Naturally they immediately got a patent and now it's a cornerstone part of their very dumb lore...

Hey Sam, this is the first video I've seen if yours, and it was amazing! I never watch food reviews, but the way you articulated your scentances and the reasoning behind everything you did was perfect. You have a calm voice that's very easy to listen to. Well done.
P.s. Cairns is pronounced "Cans" haha
    Coming from Brisbane, Australia!

Sam this was a wonderful and respectful showcase of my home country - honestly one of the best I’ve seen. Your presentation style (as always) is just a delight to watch. I appreciate you taking the time to engage with a small piece of Indigenous culture as this is something often overlooked in travel videos to Australia - the traditional custodians of this land deserve our respect.
It’s a shame you didn’t get to spend much time in Melbourne (the city I call home) as we’re known for our culture of sport, live music, food, and art! And also our trams!! And Victoria is just teeming with amazing national parks. I hope you come back again soon to visit! You’re always welcome 🩷

Your video just came up on my feed randomly and I gotta say I'm quite impressed that you did all the good and fun stuff in the short trip you had! I dive a lot in the GBR so I'm biased to loving Cairns. But I actually dive outside the GBR and far into the Coral sea. Hope one day you can return. It's cooler now so maybe you'd prefer the weather now but I miss summer.

Yes "shrimp on the barbie " is from that commercial and from the guy in the commercial, Paul hogan. he used that phrase on australian TV in a comedy show and was asked to be a tourism ambassador and use it in ads for american TV. it led to him becoming famous here and even got him a few movies.

As an Aussie who’s dad was about to open up an Outback Steakhouse in my home town. I always thought it was just a steakhouse, I didn’t know it was an Aussie theme restaurant! 😂 but I have to add the most iconic Australian food, most people here are shocked to find out it’s Australian (because why are you guys not using it?!) and it’s chicken salt on chips! But you can pick some up online and put on salt less chips at home and that’s still an authentic experience

The fruit at 21.36 is a passion fruit. The passion fruit (Portuguese: maracujá and Spanish: maracuyá, both from the Tupi mara kuya "fruit that serves itself" or "food in a cuia") is the fruit of a number of plants in the genus Passiflora.

Next time you come out, if you want to try bush tucker and see something incredibly unique: K'Gari (formerly known as Fraser Island). The resort there has a bush tucker tour, they have a significant dingo (wongari) population and it's the world's largest sand island.

This is the first video I ever saw that you made. It was recommended and I watched it and liked it. And then I watched the follow-up video about Australia. Then I forgot about you.
And today I got the latest video about lounges recommended by youtube, I watched it, the. i watched the latest video about your quest for wings in USA and now I just watched the video about eating waffle house for an entire week.
I scrolled trough your library and I must say that I want to watch everything. I like how you produce your videos with alot of explaining and I like that you make alot of videos around food. Aaaand you have a good sense of humour.
You got yourself a subscriber from Sweden.

Great Video Sam! I'm from Australia and love your videos. I would have never thought you would make any videos Australia-related. I'm a massive AFL fan and am so glad you attended a game. To me, it is the greatest game on the planet.
When I first watched a video of yours I read your Chanel name and thought "There is an AFL player with the same name" Never did I imagine that an American like yourself would stumble upon his existence. Interestingly enough, my Dad actually provided piano lessons to Sam Reid of the Sydney Swans over 20 years ago.

I enjoyed that, mate and one of the most accurate, fair and insightful in terms of understanding our particular sensibilities about things broadly, I have ever watched - across all video content genres.
