I came back to this video specifically to add this comment - after watching I decided that I wanted to try Devils' Juice #5 for myself just to experience the woodiness of it. I guess I should give a disclaimer that I'm relatively new to whiskey drinking and haven't had a ton of opportunity to try different whiskeys. So, to put it lightly, jumping straight to Devils' Juice was less like jumping into the deep end and more like jumping into the ocean with a 20 pound weight around my foot. I actually really enjoyed drinking it. The wood smoke flavor is definitely overpowering. I was having a difficult time trying to pick out other flavors in the whiskey, be that from the overpowering flavor or the lack of experience. This smells exactly like a campfire and nothing else. However, it wasn't unbearable and actually was very enjoyable when I ate it with dinner. I was eating it with cured meat that already had very strong flavor itself that was able to stand up to the extreme smoke flavor of the whiskey. I actually think it was worth the price. I was able to get it shipped for $85, which is more expensive than most whiskeys I would personally pay for, but I split it with a roommate and it's something we will keep on the shelf for special occasions. I recommend giving it a try for those who are curious.
Daniel, I am 70 and my resting heart rate is 52. Today, I just hit 5,000 miles on my bicycle for the year. So you have a goal for the next 30 or so years. :-)
I'm from Pittsburgh. literally 10min away from the distillery. Recently went to Mclaughlin distillery for their tour. If you ever have a chance to go, please do it. Awesome People, small mom and pop store. The Devil's juice is by far my favorite Bourbon that I have tasted yet. They also have a baby barrel bourbon they have is really tasteful as well. If you keep it in your mouth long enough you will also start to feel the actual temperature of the bourbon get hot. Craziest Bourbon that I have ever tried.
I’ve been an on and off viewer for the last 2 years.. I knew Daniel was a musician but I missed an episode where he flat out said he was a drummer.. but as a drummer it makes so much sense.
Would it be possible to get about a two second close up shot of each bottle you guys review. I like taking screen shots of the bottles for future purchases. Thanks guys. Your reviews are spot on.
What was the taste of Devils' Juice #5? It was the taste of betrayal. I am afraid to ask, but how bad were versions 1-4 that made them decided they nailed it on the 5th attempt?
Literally used that Ralph quote with my wife 2 days ago and then had to explain it. Back when there was quality programming on tv and shows had writers.
If you've ever had San Sebastián winery wines (from St. Augustine, FL) they are notoriously very sweet, so I'm not surprised that their port barrels would add more sweetness than most.
Emma strikes again with the Laphroaig swap... taking bets on when Daniel notices. Glad they ended with a kick you in the wood notes whiskey, I of course must wonder what peated Scotch taste like after that last one.
I'm so glad I found you guys! (I mean on TH-cam, not IRL, no stalker vibes here) Slightly husky bearded guys who enjoy whiskey and a variety of Shenanigans and tom foolery. MAH PEOPLE!
There ice Lord giveth... You dudes give some awesome reviews on the whisk(e)y you review. There are some who think you cannot give an honest review on Whisk(e)y you are given as compared to the Whsk(e)y you purchase on your own. I completely disagree. Please don't ever stop doing what you do. Thank you for your cander.
Are you sure it was the normal Florida Straight? It looks similar but Total Wine has a store pick of the Florida straight that looks very similar to the normal bottle.
Daniel/Rex... This Savannah product is the first bourbon, as far as I can remember, which you've reviewed which has both rye and wheat in the mash bill. I've always wanted to sample such a product and maybe I have and simply didn't know it. Do you know of any others?
Pretty much every 4 grain bourbon has both. Usually 4 grain bourbons that are not trying for a magical even grainsplit or something are corn, then rye, wheat & a minimal amount of malted barley just to get the fermentation going. Hope that helps with your quest.
Hi Mooch & Som. I am just beginning my whiskey journey, so far my preference has been bourbon (Buffalo Trace and Four Roses Single Barrel are my go to's) and I have enjoyed the regular Jameson and Caskmates Stout. Selection is very limited in my area (Northern Ontario Canada) but I am looking to try my first scotch. My options are Highland Park Viking Honour ($70CAD), Glenfiddich 12 & Glenlivet 12 ($63CAD), Bowmore 12 ($58CAD), Bruichladdich Classic Laddie or Glenmorangie Original ($70CAD). As background, I like very dark roast coffee and spicy foods. What in your exalted opinion (Daniel hahaha) would be my best of these options? Thanks in advance.
Boys, I am relatively new to the whiskey game, been legally drinking for a year now and I’ve found I like scotch the best. The first one I drank, loved, and finished was the balvenie 12. I also have a thing for cool looking bottles, so could you guys recommend any good scotches that also come in nice bottles?
Have you reviewed stone breaker whiskey from restless spirits in kansas city? I know Daniel is a big Irish whiskey fan and this is supposedly a blend of Irish and American whiskeys. Seems like an interesting concept. If you have not tried it what is the best way to get a bottle to you for review?
At least it wasn't smart pills Story time: out camping/hunting trip with an uncle and stumbled upon deer skat and ask uncle what are those ? Uncle says son those are smart pills you should eat a few a day . So I pick up a few and pop them into my mouth and bite down and tell my uncle these taste like crap, uncle says you see your gittin smarter allready .
Curses! Now I want a dram. You need to publish later in the day, as I'm pretty sure whiskey at work for most people not named Don Draper is frowned upon these days.
The funny thing about this to me is that, living in Orlando, I find both of these in every store. Yet trying to find anything from Buffalo Trace here is nearly impossible.
Have you ever reviewed 10th Mountain Whiskey from the 10th Mountain Distillery in Vail, CO? I had it once when I was in CO (and you might guess that I am partial towards the 10th). From what I remember it was a good whiskey, but it was a looooong day...... I would send you a bottle but I can not buy it in the part of NY that I live.
I love those chocolate cherries... Yeah, the first time I had one, I had a mouth burn also... Still eat them to this day.. Did not hear anything on the mic from the burp or smell....
Prices are so regional it probably wouldn't help much. Would only be a ruff idea. then when you get into rare whiskey on secondary or auctions. Is a better hand on the pulse pricing.
Hi guys. If I sent you some bottles of Swiss whisky would you consider doing a review on them? Pretty young industry in Switzerland but definitely something very special.
When he said it smelled like burnt wood and oil, I instantly thought of the whiskey that was smoked with Rex's ponytail 😂😂 Sounds like they left the hickory chips in too long. I tried to use wood chips instead of a barrel once, and it went from slightly woody to licking a tree crazy fast.
I was in tulsa a couple years ago and saw a guy wearing the exact same shirt as me. He waved and said hey great minds 😄. I looked at my girlfriend at the time and said I told you this was a cool shirt. Its a button up hawian looking shirt with flowers on it. I was also 29 at the time.
Hello, I'm a huge fan of the channel. I'd like to say that you guys got me into and actually enjoying whiskey! I'd like to ask a question that's been bugging me recently. On one of your videos (can't remember which one ...) you mentioned/recommended a whiskey and if memory serves me right you described it as something like - "fit for summer", "fresh and coastal", "something different". For sure it was not a "mainstream" brand. I've been digging all around your channels and CAN"T find the video reference. If you happen to remember what that whiskey might be, please do share. Keep up the amazing content!
Man I can’t even touch my finger when I wrap them around my wrists, like not even close. Idk know if it bc i have short fingers or large wrist bones or both.
If any episode will convince you that drinking whiskey and considering what's good and what isn't is this one. Its all relative to what else is out there. On the norm Brimstone may be super pungent but when you bring something more so then brimstone instantly becomes more consumable. Its how a lot of us actually work our way into scotch, initially it all tastes like crap but slowly over time you can say well at least its not "as bad" as this one so I can accept xyz.
You were probably in my town, Rex. I live in Hoboken and my place has that exact view. No better way to enjoy a drink than sitting on my balcony with NYC in the background.
Audrey you win. Those guys deserve that.
Starting at 14:05, that was the funniest review I've seen you guys do! I'm trying to control my laughing fits at work right now
EMMA'S SLIGHT OF HAND IS AMAZING!
laphroaig all the way
All that time Brian Brushwoods been spending there has done some good I guess lol
Sleight
Michael Verduyn ditto
For getting us the absolutely best tasting reaction from Daniel & Rex, that Devil's Juice deserves its own special FU Whiskey shelf.
Not sure what was better Daniel's intro or the review of Devils Juice number 5. The name was kind of a warning.

See that’s a whiskey experience that you did not expect to have, and that you will remember for a long time to come.
Cheers 🥃

Best half assed into ever Daniel!

You guys are the reason I drink to appreciate rather than get smashed now. You the best!
Emma put the Laphroiag Cask Strength back on the wall.
Blasphemy. Removed the Lagavulin 16 from its place
It’s the first thing I look for now when I hit play lol
It tastes like burning. Second time around. Best Simpson quote ever!!!!
The Ice lord should play a role in the level past titan when we get there

would be great to see you guys do a video with both of your top 5 whiskeys
I love me some Rex in his casual Friday shorts

Daniel's RWF lead-in . . . OMG I haven't laughed that hard in a while! Thank you !!!!!!

Also port is in generally syrupy sweet.

There's been a murder in SuhVANnuh!
“mine are crossbows”
Rex: let me tell you my Port story
Daniel: 😴
That was the nicest and most tactful way I've ever heard anyone say "this whiskey is fucking terrible".
WOOT! My first review :) Thanks gents!!!!
Also, all gifts that come your way are indeed made by me :) Just like the MoochLace I made! More goodies will come to you, I promise.
@@Wilvekio69 Thanks for what you sent in! It led to a wonderful discussion about wrist size!
And also whiskey.

"makes Brimstone taste like Brenne" could be an effective descriptor going forth
As a Brimstone lover, I now feel that I may have to go on a Devils' Juice #5 funky adventure.
I love when Rex and Daniel get a whiskey that still gives them a little spanking
There ice Lord giveth...

If you fight, may you land the last punch.
If you steal, may the cops be slow
And if you drink, may someone else.be paying
Was that Rex indicating that he understands the nuances of port?
Are you sure it was the normal Florida Straight? It looks similar but Total Wine has a store pick of the Florida straight that looks very similar to the normal bottle.

The last whiskey reminds me of when someone asked me to try their Crown Royal "Texas Mesquite" - I had the WORST heartburn the rest of the night
Daniel : it is ......
Me yelling at my screen : say it Rex... SAY IT...
"It is what it is" never came... sad friday

How does the magnificent/benevolent/patron saint/Titan level work?
Please try one of the Els Burn Whiskeys from Germany. I love the Ember, Journey and the Sherry Cask.
"My resting heartrate is 61."
WHAT A HUMBLE BRAG FROM BIG D.
Edit: Devil's Juice #5 sounds VERY interesting.
Im glad Rex dressed for the occasion!
How would a roasted barrel, not charred using a wood fired oven & not a gas fired oven affect the flavor of a whiskey?
Well done Audrey, well done.
Savannah Bourbon is not currently made in Savannah GA, Only distillery in town is Ghost Coast.
Ghost Coast is still darn good
@@Gazelle8 excited for the final bourbon blend the 4 single mash bill releases have been great.
Lol’d at the hickory tasting! 🙅♂️😂😂
The funny thing about this to me is that, living in Orlando, I find both of these in every store. Yet trying to find anything from Buffalo Trace here is nearly impossible.
I was literally planning on sending in a bottle of 7 Devils bourbon to celebrating my getting a new job, and my first day was today.

I live an hr from that distillery really good really fun place to visit there gins are awesome also!!
20 years of what now is that motion, Daniel?

btw guys, McLaughlin is also the guys who put baby barrels into baby rockers to age it. just doing weird stuff, but its fun

Fun one - had to subscribe.

Sounds like they left the hickory chips in too long. I tried to use wood chips instead of a barrel once, and it went from slightly woody to licking a tree crazy fast.
Rex is leaning on the Ralph Wiggum impressions this week. This budget bourbon bastard and aspiring mooch appreciates it.

Ice lord. Always giving. From his ice... hole.
Cue cards for Daniel’s intro? Maybe?
The Benevolent Bastard animation is the best imo.
i love me some devils juice. its so powerful, so tasty. little bit of toasted marshmallow underneath. delicious
oh hey, he said it right after i posted it
Goes great in marinades, too! Just a teaspoon-full is all you need.
Now I want to try The Devils Juice #5 and 1-4
Need to try “The Saint” by St Augustine Distillery. I’d send it but it’s $200...
I would guess that Devil's Juice is probably best mixed in a cocktail of sorts. Or of course, given to someone poured neat as a punishment/prank
Description of devil's juice makes me think more of crown royal Texas mesquite over brimstone.
14:52-when the Somm can’t get past his own personal experiences to give accurate nosing and tasting notes! Lol
I think that one whiskey broke both Rex and Daniel. That is incredible. :o

I even tried that Devil's Juice and remember just begging for something to clean my palate
