This was so helpful. I was so confused about everything with the Sage when I was reading it 😵💫 and I felt like she lost me when they were doing the final battles
Thank you. I was plodding through the book and my library loan ended at the start of the final battle. Dispite skimming through some of the corny love spats, I still fell short. Your recap of what I read flowed nicely in to what I didn't read. Like your Jack portrait, he doesn't deserve any better.
I don't understand the 66 chapter like Violet obviously recognised Xaden to be a Venin in the previous chapter but later in 66 chapter she's still sleeping next to him.....I was confused abt how he got turned and still am....
It isn't evident that violet is aware that his fear is because he turned into a venin. The part where he turned into a venin lies between his interaction with the sage which has not been fully disclosed yet. However a tiny glimpse of it is shown in the supposed "dream" of xaden -right before he wakes up there's a line that quotes, "there’s something beneath me, a steady flow of unmistakable power" it seems like it is right there where in desperation of survival he ends up turning to a venin and sucking the power out of ground maybe that is he how he survived death from the sage or general. So it appears that the previously mentioned "supposed dream" was infact a memory.
I actually believe it’s just because they’re not choosing to tell everyone else that Xaden turned and for that night they’re just gonna rest after battle and deal with the situation the next day.
Thank you so much. I got about 22 chapters in and was debating wasting more of my time on something that I felt was unnecessarily long. Now I can read a different book and won't feel tempted to pick this back up again just to know the end!
I didn’t understand how the wardstone was saved when the author didn’t really explain Andarna using her power as the 7th dragon to reignite the ward. I understand how Violet’s mom used Sloan as a conduit to give it power, but where were the 7 dragons in this? Don’t they need to combine their fire like they did in Aratia? Or were they able to skip that somehow? It just didn’t make sense to me
Yeah she completely skipped over the actual process of the 7 dragons breathing fire into the wardstone and all that. It was implied but not written. I was also so confused when I first read it!
No, it was explained it just so happens vi was in a daze. So brennan was lucky enough to some how mend the iron back together and got it back up standing which mind you is a massive feat because the iron is ment to contain rune magic and pure imbued magic energy. Menders are not supposed to be able to fix magic imued items at all. After that event, Violet figures out finally, andarna is a hidden 7th clan of dragons. So they gather 6 new dragons, each of the different clans and andarna for the 7th. Now, while the second waves rage on and xaden fights the general/sage. Vi races to embue what is supposed to be a several weeks' worth of energy into a few minutes. In doing so, she hits her limits and starts to burn out. Vi's mom general sorrengail notices she makes the choice to sacrifice herself for her children because her children are more important than her own life. So by using solane syphone ability, they transfer the life energy of both general sorrengail AND her dragon. Which combined with almost the entirety of Vi's self is enough to embue the ward stone again. Leaving the 7 to reignite it with their breath. Their breath, I'm assuming, containing a certain form of draconic magic. The first years and Mira, who rushed down to help, hury to remove Vi, brennan, and the lifeless mom from the chamber so it can be basked in flame. Andarna uses her body to block the tunnel leading out as the flames roar in from both her and the 6 other dragons. Thus reignitining the wardstone of basgiath.
Andarna is a chromatic dragon. She can change the color of her scales like a chameleon. They appear irradecent when black because it's difficult for her to hold that same color as tairn, I'm assuming.
The googly eyes 🤣🤣 I actually don’t blame Xaden for not telling Violet about his previous engagement to Catriona because Violet was honestly such a horrible communicator and listener, and completely unreasonable for this entire book, and didn’t even give Xaden the chance to explain it (verbally or via their bonded connection) because she was constantly mad at him, blocking him out and refusing to speak to him.
Def agree with this take. Violet was quite immature and emotionally reactionary throughout this book and it led her to then not actually ask the questions she could have to get to know Xaden better. My hope is that she will mature further in the coming books because in this book, I felt like Violet’s character development was more static.
it was so hard for me to follow! between all of the different magic terms, places, names, rules, wing/section/quadrants, my head was spinning. thanks for the recap!
How Xaden changes reminds me of Dimitri turning Strogi in Vampire academy and the use Lissa powers to fix him and bring him back. That is what I am thinking will happen.
I enjoyed your recaps of both books. May I suggest you listen to parts of the audiobook for pronunciations. I only listened to these books but I can believe they were crazy to sound out.
Thank you 🥰 I watched some interviews with the author about pronunciation and then watched some videos from people who speak Gaelic who ran through some of the names and words from the books, and I'm not sure I trust the author on those now 😂 It's all a bit of a jumble in my head!
This was a really great recap. My friend is reading it and not feeling it (she's still super in the beginning) so I was trying to determine where exactly she was. Found my answer in five mins but watched the whole thing. Got me all fired up fir onyx storm again
Nolan does not leave the door unlocked. He distracts the only guards on duty that would have prevented their squad from wielding properly, at least not without a fight.
I really enjoyed your recap and would love to hear more of your thoughts and predictions for the third book. What other book series are you referring to regarding the similar plot?
Oh yeah, good point about the Brennan as a leader not being addressed. That actually really doesn't make that much sense? Lmao him not getting a picture "Poor Dain" lmao never in a million years did we think to think that THE RETURN OF THE STICK FIGURE I forgot Dain being Chaol lmaoooo even though you showed me the picture with the eyes I WASNT READY hahahahha the special effects amazing
Maybe I'll give him a picture when he becomes relevant! Hahaha I cannot BELIEVE she made us think that about Dain. I feel betrayed! The jump scare with the googly eyes is making me laugh every time I think about it hahahah
Thank you so much! I got to part 2, and decided that I no longer want to continue this book. I liked fourth wing, but this book fell short. I can now return it to the library this afternoon, so thanks! ❤

They did address this in the beginning - Brennan stated that everyone senior to him was getting killed off and that's how he advanced rank so quickly.

This book is so poorly written, I’m glad I don’t have to read this nonsense
It's not written as poorly as you think. It's just definitely carted to an audience near the twilight, hunger games, and similar books.
Under tairns scales?! No, they were on the saddlebags.
