Helpful video! Alcohol is one of the top three causes of preventable cancer, so why aren’t people being informed about the risks? The risks have always been there, but it's easy to ignore because drinking is so normalized and so celebrated as a form of relaxation and reward. Alcohol should have cancer warning labels to raise awareness of the risks, but the alcohol industry doesn't want that.👋

They never show wasted people in alcohol ads. They're always completely sober and normal.

After the 50s and tobacco research, the realization that ALL industries don't care about your health should not be a shocker. (Airplane door falls off cutely)

100% true. Alcohol is a dangerous, dangerous thing, but ALL industries are primarily after profit. Hell, in the US even our "healthcare" is about profit extraction. This argument is silly.....

You provide some valid points. However, quitting drinking suddenly for a person who consumes large amounts regularly can cause severe withdrawal, seizures, even death. I'd recommend that you add a disclaimer that this isn't medical advice. I worked in a hospital for many years. DT's, vodka IV drips, combative patients, etc. Good luck to everyone on their course to sobriety.

Lets say you know someone who is really toxic in your life and you no longer want any association with that individual so you cut them of. Your not gunna wake up everday counting the days of your last contact with that person. Your not gunna continually going to keep that persons name in your mout bringing them up all the time in conversations. Your not gunna allow that person to live rent free in your mind right?
So why do that with alcohol? Why couht days?

keep listening to Leon's podcasts. its INFORMATION that will make a difference for you. you dont need willpower. you need to be INFORMED about what alcohol/ethanol is. you will soon fall out of love with it. you will soon live without ethanol as u live without bleach. Its not hard to live without bleach because you know it's a poison. I keep a bottle of Port (it was my favourite poison) on the table by my bedside. I emptied the port down the sink and I filled it with BLEACH. I wrote POISON on the label. every so often I pull the cork out and I breathe in the fumes.... just to remind me how dangerous the original substance was. in fact when I go to Lidl to do my shopping and I feel a desire to walk down the alcohol aisle, I walk down the house cleaning products aisle instead and buy myself a bottle of BLEACH! I now have about a dozen bottles of BLEACH in my bathroom!! (Bleach is real cheap).

your forgetting habit example being I would get home relax by gaming and just force of habit drink beer so the two became intwind without even realising so I had to retrain my brain to substitute alcohol for water or soft drinks. Assossiation with a particular daily situation for me was how to break that habit.

I'm glad you admitted your ignorance, but you should really get into the research. Just knowing what an "alcoholic" or "alcoholism" is could really maximize what you're getting out of your sobriety.

Sure they care about us drinkers - they put that tiny little size 4 font "Drink Responsibly" on every bottle and if you're lucky a tiny picture of a pregnant lady drinking with a cross through it. haha, 16 months sober here.

It's never our fault. Never. We are so great, but the rest of the world is crap. Ok.... People who have problems with alcohol should stop drinking. The rest of us can enjoy here and there alcohol, and any drug for that matter, as long as is not becoming a problem. And fucking stop blaming left and right, it's your job and duty to take care of yourself, to use your brain and filter information.
