- Here i am fitting a split charge relay kit for my 120 Ah leisure battery .
this kit will charge my 12v leisure battery when i drive .
Cable size - 10mm - Live and Earth
Fuse sizes - 60a
fuse holders
All supplied with kit

Most of these kits the rely is a fuse itself, so using fuses these position is a bit of a overkill :)

What would you suggest in a situation where I have a STANDARD NOT smart alternator and I want to change the battery from AGM to LiFoPO4. Everyone informs that VSR is dedicated to standard alternators and DC/DC chargers to EURO 5 OR 6. It is not often said what kind of batteries can or should not be used with VSR or DC/DC. Everything seems to be that if I buy a LiFoPO4 battery and connect it to the VSR, then this battery will blow up my alternator. So what to do in this situation and is there any reasonable solution ???
So this is used to charge a battery with the car motor. And sepatates the batteries other wise? Like it goes only one way?

I'm thinking about fitting one but i have 2 12v car batteries linked in series as one of the batteries was for a tail lift which is gone. i have a live cable that was going to the lift so thought to use that to go into relay, its already fused. does it matter that i have 2 batteries as its 24v?

Im looking at adding in a bank of two leisure batteries due to the amount of power im likely to draw. In this case do you think it would be best to hook up directly to the alternator as opposed to the starter battery? Im just concerned about draining the starter battery
Hi Tommy, do I only need to disconnect the positive side of the starter battery to connect the fuse breaker cable on, or do I need to disconnect both live and positive from the starter battery?

It's supposed to be installed as per the instructions next to the starter batt not the secondary or it won't detect the voltage drop for a long time. I have the same setup and I realise why they tell you to do this. In order for me to get it to detect the car is off even after 5min I have to turn headlights on and wait to hear the click

Did u earth ur starter battery as well I did the same as u i ran a cable to the relay ,relay to the battery and was earthed and it wasn’t charging my leisure.
But then I swapped it out for a twin live and neg twin cable starter to the leisure and it worked with 5amps being drawn
So why I’m asking did u earth it at the starter battery as well as the leisure

Could this charge other batterys not just leisure batterys as I have a race transporter that has 2 main batterys as the lorry runs of 24 volts for main batterys and I have a 12 volt battery that powers my winch so could I use this to work of 1 over the main lorry batterys to the split charge relay then out to my winch battery.

Hi, I fitted a split charge relay today. When I turn the engine on the LED flicks on and off a few times then stops working. Do you know what could be causing this?
my "separator thing" does NOT have a red dot on either stud and is not marked. so what do i do now???

So this would charge your leisure battery, then from the leisure battery you would go in to a fuseboard and from there out ... I have a video on 12v electrics which may help , I'll drop the link below 👍

Hey there, great video. Do you know what current the relay draws? I'm wondering how to size my wire. I think that relay is 140amps, does that mean that my 100amp wire wouldn't be big enough to handle it? Could i just fit an 80amp inline fuse for example? Thanks

Not everyone buys a kit... I bought the voltage sensitive relay and will put kit together myself.. could you share more info for us non kit peeps xx

On the first page you show all the kit assembly parts and the split box is close to the vehicle battery . I have put mine in the engine compartment, does it matter as long as the wires go to the correct connector.

Did you connect up the leisure battery first, then starter battery, or does the order not matter?
Run everything first, fuses etc then I usually connect starter battery then leisure battery 👍

They usually do stay on for a while, mine can be on for an hour or so after switching the engine off 👍🏼

My van is an 2004, If you have a newer van with a smart alternator etc you will need a different split charge 👍

@@LT_TOMMY_ il check if there’s any charge in it it’s brand new only fitted it all two days ago ...when I put ignition on ,I get power to leasure battery and able to switch on my lights,fridge ect once I take key out all power drops ...

No problem, most batteries are at least part charged when new but my battery was brand new and quite low so after a day or so playing about with the interior lights etc it was flat , may be worth charging it over night so you know its being installed fully charged , plus get a voltage reader , even if it's a cheap 12v one that goes in to the cigarette lighter , at least you know roughly what voltage you have 👍

I use a leisure battery for window cleaning and wondered if this would be useful for me.
My battery is Yuasa 100amp and it runs 2 pumps each day (approx 5 to 6 hours) 100psi Shurflo. I rather suspect that I am drawing more power than possibly could be topped up, is this the case? Cheers. Steve.
Why don't people use a set of breaker's instead of the fuse's that way you can click the test button to break the circuit any time you choose for maintenence and its easy to rest
Why 10mm cable? You are only charging the 2nd battery not using it to start the engine! These Voltage Sensitive Relays (Split charge relay) are a pain and waste of money, they annoyingly chatter on/off when both batteries are near fully charged. I have had to replace two with standard relays.
