    You really packed that thing well. I am really sorry I didn't bring a container from Wales to Cyprus. I gave everything away except 8 suitcases full of clothes and things such as a vacuum cleaner and steam mop and photographs. Never mind I blessed friends and family with some nice things

      Yes, it is always hard to decide in the moment what the best option is. We sold and/or donated over 80% of what we owned and only kept what would fit in our RV or this POD. Massive downsizing.

    You folks brought the meaning of Tetris to another level! I am amazed, especially because I am incredibly bad at estimating space ( fortunately my husband has that gift). Great work!!!!

    • @TheKraemerLife
      @TheKraemerLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am actually quite good at estimating space, size, and distance so it came in quite useful for us. We only left behind one item that we just couldn't make fit and that was far less than what we anticipated when we went with the small size.

    Considering what all those tools and now with the sky high cost of lumber, and the cost to replace the furniture I think you really made a wise choice! The tools will be well used and needed on your new homestead.

    I showed and referenced your video of the day your Pods arrived and mentioned how you packed the wood, to a friend of ours who wanted to moved their shed. They had sold their home and the new owners wanted their shed removed, also. They were using 3 PODS. Happily, they were excited to be able to pack their 8'x8' shed.

    💜 I actually enjoyed this. I think this was a super wise choice. If you were to go online and figure out how much all the things you kept would cost to purchase now with all the crazy inflation going on, I still think you saved. Not to mention the cost of food today and that taking a greater chunk of change out of your monthly budget therefore having less money to repurchase the stuff n things you packed.

    • @TheKraemerLife
      @TheKraemerLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. I think that is the case too. Looking at the loss between what you originally paid and sold items for then having to purchase again is significant for tools and furniture.

    When my family and I moved to Tennessee from California 18 years ago, we used ABF. We had to pick up our belongings in Nashville 1.5 hours away. Half of our furniture was broken when we received it. If I were to do it again, I would sell everything extra that I couldn't take with me. I am so glad that you all had a great experience with PODs. I wish they were available when we moved, I might have a different experience

    • @TheKraemerLife
      @TheKraemerLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      WOW, sorry you had such a rough experience. I had a similar on the ONLY time I used a moving company. We sold about 80% of our belongings and took a chance on this working out for what we wanted to keep.

    Nice to see you had a good experience with the PODS. Wasn't an option when I moved. So I bought a enclosed trailer, filled it up and stored it till we needed to retrieve it. Then was able to sell the trailer and even made a few bucks on the trailer.

    You did such a great job packing the Pod! Ingenious way to bring the wood along and very smart of you to do so. I moved from Michigan to Texas in 1981 and brought all my furniture and belongings. We hired a moving van company and I think the cost was $750 paid by my prospective employer. We rented a house in Arlington for the first year while we looked for somewhere to buy. It worked well.

As far as cost, it is all dependent on how long and how far you go from one place to another. Thank you for sharing your experience with this company. When we moved from UK to Canada we had to decide ship or donate or sell off. It was easy in some respects- a lot of stuff we were not allowed to bring such as anything that had touched soil- no garden tools, lawnmowers, camping equipment outdoor grills etc. That broke my heart, as I am a keen gardener. No point in taking any electrical tools/ tv's or appliances- the power difference is not just about the shape of the plugs and sockets. We shipped our new leather sofas as like you, we figured age/cost to replace etc was a no brainer and like you they didn't fit! To think that someday you will build a home that your furniture will fit into is awesome. This was a great video for anyone thinking about moving. We had a tiny little container in the end and we brought everything that we could that we thought was important, but at the end of the day its all "stuff" and we all need a reminder every now and then about what is truly important, not just for comfort but our mental health. keep up the great work! You are very inspiring!

    • @TheKraemerLife
      @TheKraemerLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we were deciding what to keep vs. sell/donate I kept thinking of the "does it spark joy" comment and started to post items for sale...the more we sold the easier it started to get. We donated so much and would have donated more if COVID hadn't closed many places from accepting items. In the end, it was freeing to downsize so significantly.

    You certainly packed well, the amount of expensive items such as tools wood etc. and things that would be difficult and expensive to replace and the prolonged storage time makes it worth it. • @TheKraemerLife

    Wow!! Creative packing and unpacking...good practice for the future! Humidity is usually an enemy in our area...but the good condition of the books in that home library gives hope that your furniture will be well preserved...and those power tools are going to keep Nate in good condition!? ha My thoughts for today...Mr. Wayne

    Loved this video! I had no idea what the inside of the PODS looked like - that was such a smart idea to bring all your lumber with you and to put it in the POD in that manner! I'm so glad you had a good experience and that everything, especially your furniture, arrived in the same condition you packed it away in.
    As a fellow artist, I'd love to see some of your paintings, Katie!
    Currently I am doing floral cards and 'pet portraits' in an effort to raise some money to help me pay for our dog's upcoming TPLO surgery. He has, essentially, torn the human equivalent of his ACL. Worst part is, this is his second one. He tore the first cruciate ligament and had surgery in June of last year. Unfortunately, it didn't heal properly and he developed what is called a "pivot shift" in that first leg. So, when they go in to repair the second knee's ligament the will also "fix" the first leg. Apparently it is quick and easy and though it is more staples and another incision to have to worry about, it will be immediately fixed.
    As fellow dog lovers, I am sure you understand why I'm doing this for him. Many folks have said "why are you spending $4,000 on a 10yo dog!?" My reply... "because he's a member of this family and we love him. I would do the same for my daughter if she needed surgery to be comfortable and pain free!"
    Anyways, my point is that I'm enjoying painting (watercolors for these cards) and have been very fortunate that quite a few people have either ordered a pet portrait or a set of cards. It's fun to be able to ask what color scheme, or favourite flowers people have and create something that they'll be happy to give to others (eg, floral cards), or have for themselves. I'm doing them on 4x6" watercolor paper and mounting them on 5x7" cards. Easy to frame that way. As for picking the size, it was after selling several that people let me know that this was their favorite sizes so I've just stuck with it.
    The icon next to my name... forget what it's called... is a photo of a painting I did (rhododendrons) for my mom many years ago in oils. It's huge - 36"x48". I know that I'll ever do one that big again, haha. Partly because it was a pain to set up and work on and partly because I've since had a spine/spinal cord injury and I know without a doubt that I would NOT be able to manhandle a canvas that size these days! (Nor would I want to, haha!)
    I hope, in time, you will share some of your artwork with us, Katie! I always love to see other folk's art work!
    All the best to you (and everyone who reads this) and your loved ones.
    Heather🇨🇦

      My last dog, Ellie Mae had a hip replacement at 10 yrs old...it gave her 5 more high quality years so it was worth it to me. I think that you know what is best for your pet and others will never fully understand.
      I enjoy painting but I wouldn't consider myself a painter. I enjoy painting flowers and landscapes...trees...nature. When we get the house set up perhaps I will have some time to paint something for the walls :)

    We needed two PODS for moving our household from NJ to MI. At our MI site, we bought a shipping container and moved most everythng from the two pods into that. Our land was totally undeveloped and we don't have the house built yet, most of our possessions are still in the container.

    I think this would of been really helpful to those thinking of moving and the pods are certainly worth the money if you compared it to a moving van. My friend has used pods and found it very affordable on a budget and only moving 70 km. When you pack things i think you would do it with more care as opposed to strangers packing stuff they have no attachment too. Happy to see your belongings home again after 21 months.
