- I have always loved this thing and it got two buffs. One of them really helps PvP and the other makes it viable in PvE. It's the best sniper in the game I have said it for years.

Is hitting a super the only option to proc the 2nd perk in pvp or do overshields count as shields? With void titan there can be a lot of void overshields around in a match so if it worked with that it'd be great.

I used this gun a bunch last season, with Transversive Steps on my warlock.
its a great buff, but i am sad that they sorta stealth nerfed the old combo... 5 shots in any element is good but unlimited shots on a GM Burn element was also pretty great.
why does it have a lower body shot ttk?
I tried it today for four matches. I got two kills, both body shot cleanups lmaooo I’m a terrible sniper and I will now disassemble it.
If you're confused about the section where CoolGuy is calling it "Ionic Trace" and how traces might tie into that, since you wouldn't think they do, he means "Ionic Return", the sniper's Exotic perk, not Ionic Traces (Arc subclass mechanic)
hell if youre using it on arc with arc sub, you might get an ionic trace too lol
The fundamental buff to Hardlight is also pretty good. I think it defaults to void damage though, so the bonus is wasted on it. Hardlight doesn't benefit from the extra stability and aim assist as both of them are already maxed

I used this sniper a long time ago when murmurs of its hidden potential were spoken on for a few; I used it a few times in pvp to help with sniper bounties, sniper practice and etc.
But just recently I tested it in pve with the changes and it’s pretty amazing; adding onto the fact with hunters exotic chest piece now giving volatile rounds whenever you go invisible is amazing with it.
And pvp warlocks with obsidian aspects will help with the handling even further it’s a spicy gun and happy to see it give it the love it truly deserves
I’ve been waiting for YEARS for Borealis to get buffed. So glad Bungie made those tweaks.
I would love to run borealis in pve now, but it needs to have more of an edge to make it worth using over a primary energy weapon with all the ad clear subclass synergies. Hard light is pretty damn good for solo work though, since you can get the subclass stuff, and break the shields with whatever matches. Only drawback to these guns is that alternate fire swapping through elements is clunky and in matchmade activities even with match game, your team has usually broken the shield by the time you find the right element

You can change energy switch in settings from hold the button to double tap. I did this to heavy and it works miles faster

I really like this weapon, the only problem for me is that Cloudstrike just got an Uber catalyst with that extra handling which still is the sniper king for me. Those colats are irreplaceable

One thing to note is that you can also snipe-swap. I have a rose with opening shot- perpetual motion, and being able to use arc mode to body shot into the hand cannon feels amazing!!
Borealis has always been my favorite sniper in the game. I almost peed myself with excitement when I used the arc mode and saw how snappy it is.

Albruna D on Arc subclass with fluted barrel, accurized rounds, elemental capacitor, opening shot, handling MW, and targetting adjust put you at 100 range, 33 stability, 100 handling, 31 reload speed, 66 aim assist.
Only 33 stability though? Way too low. Stability helps you combat that flinch.
Now all they need to do is make it to where it remembers what setting it was on when you die, because it just goes back to void and it’s infuriating to change it through every respawn.

My biggest complaints about the fundamentals weapons they need to keep the element you have selected if you die. It is annoying to have to cycle through every time. But yes this weapon is a beast!
My dream changes for this weapon is anyi-barrier rounds to be put on it and the barrier champion's barrier counting as a shield. You break the champion shield and get 5 round to obliterate the champion with. It would probably surpass arbalest at that point in pve!

Had a play with it today when I was doing my 3 comp matches for Rose and it felt damn good. So snappy
Love using this with Strand. You can technically use all four elements, making your arsenal/load out, more versatile. Especially in PvE.
Funny enough back when the quest dropped for thorn I used borealis to solo the final mission and help my friends complete the mission and if the ionic trace bullets were this accessible then it would’ve made that mission way easier and I’d still probably be usin it today, but now after this definitely gonna pick it back up
I had a string of 5 or 6 matches while Cool Guy was testing this build out. Gotta say it was an honor getting to go back and forth with our sniping duels.
old borealis you could chain ionic return indefinably with sniper rifle holster mod on legs, bust a shield, empty clip and before you auto reload stow borealis and after sniper holster reloads borealis pull it out and you'd have 5 more ionic return shots, I think the same worked for synaptic arsenal, reload and element swap would remove ionic return.
I'm kinda sad they made it so that its "the next five shots" rather than until you empty the mag, I remember running sniper holster mods and doing a dps rotation with it to squeak out a few extra shots while the last bullet sat in the mag. In the past you could always change damage types, you just couldn't reload it-- now keeping your buff and doing actual dps with it is impossible.

Extremely situational question, but if you break a hier apparent shield with arc borialis do you get the extra damage shots?
heir apparent shield is not considered any specific element iirc
I wish there was a way to keep the gun on arc instead of constantly having to hold reload to switch it
I've been having so much fun with it on Dawnblade. It's really worth it to play the fundamentals game. Are you in a well or stacking damage buffs? Go arc for better handling. Planning on hard scoping? Go void. Planning on floating? Go solar. It's incredible.
Not a lot of people knew but this was actually a stealth nerf. Before with Transversives you could keep Ionic Return forever as it wouldnt see it as a reload. I'd still take this overall, but yeah that bug got fixed by proxy.

Bro its SO GOOD in air now. The AE stat is like 20 which is insane, and you can 100% hit 100 AE without specing too much into it.
Borealis is an all-timer for me. Fell in love with it in vanilla D2. It feels good, sounds great, looks sexy, and works for any situation. Happy to see these buffs.

I don't even play D2 anymore, but when my favorite content guy pops off about my favorite gun, it's an instant "must watch" for me.

For me that second change is a nerf. Now you cannot keep the buff going because before you could use various methods to keep the buff active and reload. Titan slide, hunter reload, void suppression, ect...
Borealis always have been my favorite sniper. imo I like void best compared to arc and solar but it's def one of the best feeling sniper in my hand. I also tested solar mode and they weren't kidding about the AE you literally get head shots for days in air def a good weapon to get used to
I love this thing. My only gripe is choosing between it and trespasser can’t have the best of both worlds 😭

Still needs intrinsic anti (make arbalest have competition) it still would be worse than arbelest even if you put Anti on it just because linear damage ammo and easy of use is so good and currently unbeatable just slower since charge rate but makes up for damage
I’ve been telling people that borealis is the best gun in the game (mostly as a joke) but I did think it was actually good and I’m glad people actually agree with me

Borialis is as viable for pve as arc warlock. Take it into anything harder than a strike and you'll ride the struggle bus for hours.
Also i genuinely missed what you said about it pve wise, but I'm not expecting any real justification for that.

I'm a sh**ty sniper. I cannot snipe in PvP to save my life. But I'm decent in PvE. I run this with Stasis Subclass, and it's nice to have this to break elemental shields on mobs before shattering them with my ice powers. Very underrated gun indeed!

Ngl, i hate that aim assist is such a huge thing in destiny. Wish it were just "aim at target hit target" and "miss target don't hit target". Game feels like it doesn't punish bad aim.

This is unfortunately a nerf to the gun the way I use it, which is with Sealed Ahamkara Grasps / Transversive Steps to keep the mag reloaded without triggering a "true reload" and keeping Ionic Return up 100% of the time. Now it caps at 5 bullets like the old Trench Barrel nerf :/

Borealis is one of those snipers where if it feels good to you, you’ll be able to pop off with it. It’s always been like this, it just feels super good for some people and they can really get going with it! So while it may not be objectively good for PvP, you can be good with it and get great results.
@@kyahearly8224 key words “feels good for some people”. when you have better snipers that are legendary that out performs it then it’s still not good. These changes won’t bring the usage up from what it was.
@@kyahearly8224 also any good players will make a low usage weapon like this one look good. Notice every weapon he review he can pop off with that. Not everyone can do that
The new gambit sniper is an aggressive and can roll with snap and elemental.
In PvE, this weapon’s biggest struggle is that it’s competing with arbalest. Both get bonus damage after breaking a shield, and for this season both are barrier. Where Borealis falls flat is the forced reload in high end for shield breaking, and the fact that the energy slot is becoming more valuable for primary weapons. It’s a tough sell across the board.

@@RuiNDieM1988 it has disruption break. Enemies whose shields it breaks are weakened to kinetic damage, which is Arbalest.

It's different from elemental capacitor. The buff comes from the weapon damage type when you switch elements.
Oh man. Last time I used Borealis was when the Hawkmoon mission was active. It was great for the rainbow shields that was active. I imagine if this buff was in the game back then, it would have been a monster then as it is now.
I loved it before the buff and I love it even more now. Such a great sniper. Very interesting to see how it feels after the AE updates

Been using it with rose since the launch of the new season. Absolutely in love with it. Hard to choose between borealis and cloudstrike.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't keep your damage type after death in the crucible. So having to change it from void to arc every spawn can def get annoying. I do hope they change that in the future though, because that's pretty much the only thing holding it back for me
I disagree with it being better in pve because you used to be able to use a holster mod and indefinitely keep the dmg boost for times that there were no shields.
For my first 7 comp games I tried out Borealis. Man, I'm impressed. It feels SO GOOD on Arc. My ONLY complaint is that I lose time getting to prime snipe spots first in round based modes since I have to actively switch it to Arc first, then go. If we could select which element it starts on then Borealis would be 100% 10/10 perfect. But 9/10 is still PRETTY DAMN GOOD.
Yeah, there should be an extra three perk bubbles on the weapons to select the element it starts on
I get the idea that stick with arc in pvp cus it gives crazy handeling. But the thing is its so sick that you can switch when ever you want. Like a swiss army knife, going for a float heat rises kill? pop solar. Going for a lane? go void. Aggro arc it up baby

Question for you to answer for community as mixed messages. Helmet targeting mods I’ve noticed you said it gives 10AA whereas most of community threads seem to think it’s 15AA for one and 22.5AA for 2 stacked. Can you clarify how you know it’s 10AA for 1 helmet mod and 15AA for 2 as I can’t find updated resources anywhere. Ps love the vids as always
