    Hello, I have a 2016 C7 with the exact same damage. I realize this is several years old and I’m hoping you can respond. I live in Lexington KY and no one will help me repair my vette. I have tried every Corvette body shop I can find and always no. Any suggestions? I do not have the skill to do it myself, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

      If you don’t feel confident you can do it, for legal reasons, please don’t attempt. GM’s procedure for repair is fairly simple and relatively easy to accomplish though. If you don’t know how to weld, you can take a class to learn or you can look for a guy on Craigslist/Facebook marketplace to do it. Lord knows Kentucky is crawling with people who would do a great job laying down an excellent bead, but you’d have to set them up correctly.
      Auto repair shops don’t repair most cars. They do very superficial incredibly easy work and if there is any degree of difficulty all, they total it. When I bought this car, I intended to hire a shop to do the welding. I took it 5 places and they all refused to work on it. One particularly surly fellow said “Now look here son, there’s frame damage, that car is never going to be safe for humans to ride in again, that’s just the facts. Accept it and move on.”
      If he told me that it wasn’t worth fixing or that it wasn’t worth the liability, I could have respected that. But come on man, we’ve landed people on the moon! If we want this car to be drivable again we can certainly make it just as safe as it was. There’s a procedure on how to fix it in the dad gum manual for crying out loud!
      Anyway, I didn’t listen to that guy, fixed it, drove it for 3 years, crashed it into a cement wall on the racetrack at 60mph, then fixed it again and drove it 4 more years. I literally crashed my welds into a cement wall to test them and they all held :)
      It can almost certainly be fixed, you just have to find the right person to do it. If this was 1950, I’d say “Maybe you have to be one the right person” but I have no idea what your skill level is or your attention to detail. This is 2024 and anything you take on is your own responsibility and obviously at your own risk… and the risks are many.

      I bought mine for like $550 from GM. eBay would probably be your best bet.

      @@RecordsRebuilds Thanks ! Can i ask you for welding information for the rear frame ? Or its the same

      @RecordsRebuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KIRILLG88 settings are the same. Alignment is a little easier because the rear tub glues into it. I had to remove the old busted rear tub the first time I rebuilt this car and that was a huge pain removing all the old epoxy.

      @@RecordsRebuilds Thanks! yeap, unfortunately i have bought C7 from auction and after the car arrived we found that rear frame have a crack exactly in the factory seam and now we need to weld it. The question is would be a tig better? or mig with argon will do the job as well? I'm struggling to find a person who work with aluminium, everyone afraid to weld because they afraid it will crack again :( (i'm not from the US)

    Where did you buy the rail from?

    • @RecordsRebuilds
      @RecordsRebuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At my local Chevy dealer. You can order it from any Chevy dealer. One of them was backordered a while back.

      @@RecordsRebuildswhat’s the part number

    • @RecordsRebuilds
      @RecordsRebuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      The driver side is 84450972 and the passenger side is 84495502. You can use a website like this one to find part numbers:
      www.gmpartsonline.net/v-2015-chevrolet-corvette--stingray--6-2l-v8-gas/body--frame-and-components
      If the internet gives you trouble though, you can always walk up to the parts counter at your local Chevy dealer and ask them about it. They will find you the part number.

    In case you kept measurements (if you did them) - top surface of front impact bar is exactly on same level as surface of rail ends or +-1-2mm? And gap between rail ends and impact bar? Thanks.

    • @andreybalanchuk8387

      Wonder if I should try to reuse old U-brackets between rail ends and impact bar?

    • @RecordsRebuilds
      @RecordsRebuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My personal policy is to replace anything that is bent. It costs a lot of money to rebuild these cars and you might as well pay the extra $250 or so to make sure the frame is right.
      The top surface of the impact bar should be flush with the tops of the rail ends. There is no gap between rail ends and impact bar.

    How much were the new prices from Chevy?

    • @RecordsRebuilds
      @RecordsRebuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! You can look them up on a website like Trunkmonkeyparts.com. If memory serves it was about $350 for each frame rail and $100-$200 for the crossbar. The passenger side frame rail has been backordered for a long time, but there are usually ways to find one from a salvage yard or a few local dealers that still have them.
