To be fair, Edd in his book was honest about the reason he left - it wasn't Mike at all, it was because he wasn't happy with the way Discovery were taking the show, he had a break in his contract and he knew it would be easy to leave. Don't blame Mike or Edd - blame Discovery as they were the ones who made Edd leave.
They were not the reason he left, it was an opertune time to leave because he wanted to do other things,go watch the late break show interview with Edd.
Mike Brewer deserves nothing but respect. He’s worked so hard and still has amazing levels of enthusiasm. If you want to succeed at anything, just adopt his attitude towards the task. Love him.
What a nice guy Mike Brewer is. The hatred he receives on social media is exactly what he says it's just jealousy of the worst kind. And as he says if you want my kind of success, then get off of your fat arse and go do the business ! And he's dead right!
Mike and Ed are both good people. And, to be real for a moment, they lived pretty much in each other's pockets for a long time. Best to them both in 2024.
Yes they did till brewed done Ed over on the new show contract by trying to write most of Ed out the show. That right there is we were best mates well who needs mates like that in your life. Brewer is so up him self he can’t see what he’s become only need to listen to lot of that me mr me I’m so important I’m the star no one else can be dribble. He really does let on who he is who he’s become. Stopped watching anything with brewer in it 7 years ago as I know who’s honest out him and Ed
@phillipmalkin1169 ferken hill mate! Ya ar bit angry ar ya? Yi no dis show is as popular as ever wit da man Ant, in fact I find it iz even betta 👍 yer Edd hiz arwite ya no but Ant proved any like top bloke cun make it werk. I arwayz fort Edd did too mutch & poor Brewer, he didnt like hav enuf airtime. Wazn it hiz show afta all? I fink ya orta git off Edds dik an wake up ya bellend 👶
@@phillipmalkin1169 As far as I know there is zero evidence that ever happened. Not saying Mike is perfect or the Producers weren't pushing to change the show, but the show continued in much the same format even after Edd left.
I used to hang out with Mike 20 years ago from time to time with one of our hobbies. Lovely guy, I never used to watch the car shows because it wasn't my scene but he loved the motor trade and whilst our motor trade paths had been very different, it was always fun sharing some of the stories that inevitably arise. I'm glad he went from strength to strength, he's a grafter and wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. It always looks easy but I bet it wasn't at the time, stay well old friend.
So, nearly 2 hours and we don't know the "real" reason. My understanding was that the TV producers wanted to change the format so that there was less footage of working on the cars (which is the whole point of Wheeler Dealers). This obviously didn't fit well with Ed, so he left the show.
Thanks, that saved me nearly two hours of faff. When Mike started talking about himself, and presumably his siblings, having to go out and scrump food for the table, in the nineteen sixties, as if it was the nineteen thirty's, in a family that had their own car? ...please, I call bs, talk about embellishing a story 🤔🤣 I loved the original WD, sad that it ended the way it did, but if you watch Ed's TH-cam channel there's WAY too much technical stuff, boring as f. For me, they both levelled each other out perfectly, but like everything in life, all good things come to an end, and I'd now prefer to watch the new WD than Ed's channel, funny how things turn out 😆
That is definitely the story that Edd put out, am concerned though that it's been 7 years and Edd dosnt seem to be sticking with anything watched his youtube show as I never realised Mike did so much behind the scenes thought he was just a presenter (I know should have read the credits but who does) so am wondering if it was more Edd was fed up with his job (all been there) quit and had to give his Mrs a valid reason why, or maybe discovery was thinking of cutting the fix section then changed there mind we will never know, not watched a new wd since Edd left for same reason I never watched TG after Clarkson left just not the same and happened when my kids was younger so no tv time anyway but never dreamed of sending Mike hate why would you? At the end of the day even if Mike was as bad as made out its not right to troll a guy for somthing so petty, Alix, Travarish and this interview are definitely helping dispel the myths about Mike, good luck to the man
My family also had a car so that me and my sisters could get to school and my Dad could get to work. But we were so poor that at the weekend we would all go to the pub so that Dad and only Dad could have a pint for all his hard work in the week whilst we sat with him. This was in the early 2000s. You have to live through it to understand that poverty still exists...
How has this channel only at 27.5k subs - it has some of the beswt interviews on youtube and so refreshing having someone let their guests talk, rather than constantly interupting. love Mike Brewer and this channel.
As a car guy I love Wheeler dealers, watched it since day 1 and I watch repeats when I'm bored, yes certain mechanics are more likable but that's the evolution of the show, at the end of the day it's seeing the different cars being worked on and sold that's the foundation of the program, keep it going please Mike 🙏
I actually liked Ant more than Edd, fantastic guy! And I wish I got to se Ant with Edd's "mechanic time" on the show. But if it would'nt have been scaled down, Edd probably would not have left. And I would have no problem with that either.
This is a great interview - I've met Mike a few times and always found him to be genuine and warm - I really admire what he has done for the car community and car related programmes on TV! Well done Mike - and thanks for a really good interview!
Met Mike when he opened up his dealership in Luton years ago, got him to sign my whole Wheeler Dealers DVD collection. Nice man, gets too much crap thrown at him that’s not deserved
I'm lucky enough to call Mike a good friend of mine. He is as kind hearted and hard working as he comes across in this interview. Truly one of the nicest guys in the car space. He deserves every bit of success he's gotten.
I remember having his drive once ,but I let a ugly divorce kill my soul and I have never been able to recover . I have so much respect for those who can overcome adversity.
Hey man, been there. Divorce, learned that I'm the end of my bloodline, lost the house and shop, and had to move in with the parents. She clesned me out when she left. Clothes, car, dog, cat, guns, books, and chothes. All I had left. Hell of a start to the Century. Perfect time to hit that 2nd year of sobriety. Had a chance meeting with an old acquaintance and her daughter, on a ride. She'd never ridden, I offered. Fave her my number, she took jer camera out to fet a pictire of the kid on the bike, short visit. She got a new job, needed a sitter. She went in an hour after I got out, swing by pick her up, go home. My patents also enjoyed it. No. Didnt tell them then. Was still processing it, still married. She'd get out, cone over, visit, and taie her daughter home. Went like that for a while, became more. We both weren't happy at our jobs, and had shared interests in the same industry. I'd gotten her a bike, her and her daughter gear, and I got the bike, oarked 3 years, after I'd sood it, running in under an hour. Had it tuned and running perfect by dinner. Roadworthy and legal 3 days later. Did a repaint that weekend in a neighbor's booth, while waiting on parts. Nothing fancy. It is a learner. She'd learned welding and fab from dad, starting at 12, restoring cars. Didn't ask. Look me dead in the eye, and Told me " We need to reopen your shop, and make it Our Vision. Not yours and Hers. Even when my health failed, I still foubd ways to pursue what I've enjoyed doing. Its not work for us. It's makong a living doing what we always did every weekend, for free. In a wheelchair on bad days, but is it really a bad day, when you earn money, and soend tjat day with the perfect distraction, between the wori, and the crew? This is a masterpiece, not just getting to see the brain behind the character mike plays but seeing him relax into the questions by Ben's friendly style of interview
I’m 75 . Was a used car dealer. I’ve watched wheeler dealers for years . Mikes body language is one of positivity ,humbleness and trustworthiness. These attributes can’t be taught . You are born with it . I admire what he has achieved . Ed badmouthing Mike is really uncalled for . Being Disrespectful to Mike, is unforgivable.
I never understood people who read say "i found a book i couldn't put down" until now. 1.50 hour long so i had to pause to make a cuppa. Mike YOU are great, honest and humble. I totally agree with your work ethic, i'm the same age also went scrumping for a meal as a kid. Please carry on as you are and drop the haters down the loo & flush. As for Ben good work, this was the 1st podcast i've watching longer than 10 minutes, i will look at your others.
Mike you are the man. I am 54 and have thoroughly enjoyed and been entertained by you through your carrier. excellent interview from both sides. Don't comprehend the haters. Great! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I have been a fan of Mike's for years so it was really cool to hear his story, I have even more respect for him now. I love how Wheeler Dealer doesn't just fix the car, Mike also highlights people who specialize in certain parts or procedures specific to the car being worked on, it is really fascinating.
Wow, this is one of the most inspirational interviews I've ever listened to and watched. I'm originally from Mike's birthplace (he said Brixton, I'm from Camberwell) and maybe we're around the same ages (though I'm guessing he is a couple of years younger than me) and I cannot tell you how inspirational it has been to listen to Mike. I'm convinced what he has said will change my life (starting today, 2024). Thank you Mike for being the big man you are and than you too Ben for such an amazing interview. Nothing but love to both you guys.
Never had the best opinion of Mike Brewer throughout the years of Wheeler Dealers. I have to say that has totally changed now. mad respect for the guy.
Mike Brewer helps make the show . All your mechanics/ restore technicians are equally as important for this very entertaining program. I have been in the motor industry here in Australia for over 40 years and I must say I have learnt something from all of you over the years. I hope to see you when you come down under.
I was lucky enough to meet Mike in Afghanistan in 2010 when he filmed the RAF Hercules detachment and despite being exhausted he had the good manners to greet all the international fans. AutoAlex is right, he is one of the kindest genuine people I have ever met. Thanks for sharing his story, best podcast you have made yet.
It takes a special kind of ignorance to throw hate at someone who doesn't deserve it. I've had a newfound respect for Mike ever since AutoAlex talked about all the moral and financial support Mike offered him with no expectations of publicity or ego boosting, just a genuine mate offering help when it was needed. Good on you Mike, we need more people like you in the world!
Mike and Edd had fourteen years together before it ended badly - but that still has to be worth something. it should have been that they moved on and tried to put it behind them and maybe when things had healed a reunion. It's no one elses business but theirs. But instead it became digs, grudges, snide remarks at car shows, media interviews, attempts at self justification - all feeding partisan gossip, hatred, divisiveness, media frenzy etc. Hall + Oates, Gilmour + Watters, Noel + Liam etc.
What a genuine great guy. Regardless of any alleged clashes Mike and Ed were great and still are. Thanks to Mike and indeed, Ed as well. It was a truly great car show
Mike has touched the lives of so many people in the world, what an amazing story to hear. To be so humble and down to earth, even with all his success to just keep telling himself hes just mike, it just makes you wonder why we dont have more people in the world like this. I would absolutely love to see a mini series of mikes life of how he started pretty much as a Delboy in the markets to becoming one of the most successful car enthusiasts in the world. What an absolute legend.
I felt Ed China was the star of Wheeler Dealers. His gentle and informative style was great to watch and I learned a lot. But Mike should not be abused for what happened 7 years ago. Just came across your channel Ben. Loved your interview with Ben Collins. I've subscribed.
I find it amazing how much this podcast has grown. Ben is such a good interviewer, well spoke , well behaved and very smart. Congrats mate, I love hearing your guests.
I’m really glad I saw this interview. I was never anti-Mike, but I really feel a lot different about the whole situation after hearing this. You got respect somebody that comes from nothing and does what he had to do to earn what he has now.
Started my mechanics apprenticeship in UK 1964 and it never stopped but am not so flexible as I used to be now at 75. I remember the first few Wheeler Dealer shows and Edd was shy and kind of naive but as Edd’s experience grew he became more outgoing and started whinging which grew with each show and I understood but............ it was Edd’s problem no one else’s. Awesome show just loved it and both Edd and Mike. They had different roles but shared equally within the content, difference is Mike is a born showman his roots gives him the ability to roll with the punches n come up laughing that kind of persona can be threatening to certain people. Thanks great video........cheers Rob
I've heard both sides of the story, and I believe the truth shall be found somewhere in the middle. That being said, I think the breakup was one of the best thing that could happen to both Mike and Edd. The show was called Wheeler Dealers for a reason, and even though the mechanical side was also important, it was never going to have first priority. And Edd really deserved a show of his own, where he could go into all the details of his repairs. I'm saddened about the fallout, and I wish Mike Brewer all the best. But I was always one of the many fans who strictly saw the show for the content Edd provided, and I stopped being a fan of the show after they changed the concept. Final word to all those who threatened or abused either Mike or Edd because of the breakup: may you all develop a terrible itch in your butt, and may your arms be too short to reach down and scratch it.
Your last paragraph is hilarious! I have to admit I was the same, but given time, I've actually really enjoyed both Ant and Elvis's style. Ed is Ed and a great person, no doubt, but judging from his videos on TH-cam, I get the impression he has less fire/more feet up/drink tea about him whilst Ant and Elvis are a lot more dynamic shall we say. Not saying one's better than the other and I think it's all turned out well for everybody in the end, but I do believe that in life, you shouldn't burn bridges, so for Ed not to have spoken to Mike in 7 years is a bit sour imho.
@@Jez1963UK well thank you Sir. It was meant as a bit of a scold, with a bit of humour mixed in. I saw a couple of episodes with Ant as the mechanic, and I do believe that he's every bit as good as Edd was. It's the whole concept of toning down the technical side of the show, that I object to. I know that for Mike it's all about making the deals, and that's fine if you're interested in that. But for me it's all about the technical stuff, so it stands to reason that I'm on team Edd on this one. You're right, Edd's TH-cam shows are a bit more laid back. But for a hobby mechanic like me, it's just the right concept. I have fun watching the talks and the cozy atmosphere, while also learning something new. Regarding not talking to each other for 7 years: that's often what happens when two very good friends have a major quarrel. Both Mike and Edd are proper Englishmen, and if there's something British people are good at, it's holding a grudge.
@@Jez1963UK Ed IMHO has ZERO drive or desire to grow. That's where the falling out started. Looking at Ed'd channel, it's simply quite dull and hasn't moved on one bit since the first WD episode. If that's what your happy with, then fine, but don't stay schtum and do nothing to dampen the fire YOU caused.
@@invisiblekid99 I been in the trade for year's. Mike I know off though friend's and Edd I have meet in person a few time's. The problem only started with Edd after he finished with WD. He didn't like the way show was heading and did the right thing by him. The problem happened after that when the show ship back he's tolls. Not being we're they told him to pick them up from but a total different location across the country, but even not been well treated. Mike is a nice guy but he was a shady trader back in the day. Some of the car's sold on WD was faked or happened months later at a lower price then the show said. The show itself was better when it focused on the technical side than the selling side of it. Why should edd put out fire's? Why can't Mike call edd and apologies over he's tool's. Edd TH-cam show is just a normal old style British mechanic/ engineer, who drinks lot's of tea talks a lot and takes he's time on everything. Good old English workmen like edd are great.
@scann7306 it wasn't an hour and a half away. Edd said he had to go two different location find them and in total it was a five hour drive. Half way across the country in any direction you take in the UK. Mike might of said he tried calling but we have no proof of that. If you was Edd wouldn't you be upset about your tool's?
Was great to hear how Mike got to where he is now. Truely an inspiration and I have great respect for him. Keep doing what you are doing and stay true.
Mike and Edd were like Del Boy and Rodney, wouldn't miss an episode of either.. It was time to split but people shouldn't be hostile as they gave a great legacy that to this day is shown on TV every day....... Thanks
Have to say: Very impressive and inspiring! EC and MB have their individual amazing qualities that we benefitted greatly from for quite a time... Now I just wish the best for both, and their families, as they move into new spheres of absorbing activity. Thank you. Excellent, well balanced and paced podcast, Ben.
My respects to you Mr Brewer for your genuine sincere answers. I have always admired you and your shows. I was engulfed by the interview showing me much more than I had expected. Knowing about your life, just a little makes me feel proud of you. 😊
I have met Mike a few times. He’s a lovely guy and very down to earth. He’s interested in people and his emotional intelligence shines through in every aspect of his life.
Such an amazing story. Great to hear about Mike and Michelles origins having watched since the first series of Deals on Wheels. What happened to the other guy, Richard I think?
Mike Brewer, because of his background, is obviously a very driven guy. Some people just want to compartmentalise their lives between work and leisure/home time. There is nothing wrong with either; but they don’t always make good bedmates. Wheeler Dealers remains a great show and genuinely, all of the co-presenters have brought something different to it. Long may it continue. You have to question though the mindset of people who are so spiteful towards people they don’t know in apparent support of someone else they don’t know
Great interview. Mike compered my local car show in Eastbourne back in the early noughties. He had time for everybody. My boys had their photo taken with him. He was very humble.
Mike it makes me sad the internet trolls got to you. I love you. I’ve learned so much from your show. I think you’re a great person from what I’ve seen from tv. You have to know that your hard work has made you what you are today. All that matters is what your wife and daughter think of you. For what it’s worth I’ve spent the last twenty years enjoying you and your knowledge. I hope that this positive is worth ten times the negative. Live your own life bro
Having watched a few interviews with Mike, I can see clearly that it was the internet who created the Edd China vs Mike Brewer situation. In the show, Mike played a role of a slightly arrogant car flipper, which people mistook for his real personality. I think that Edd was being himself and people may have assumed that he left the show for being bullied or not comfortable with his potrayal in the show, while he just wanted to do his thing. However, their different personalities was actually what I liked about the show : a strong sales man with priorities vs sensible, intelligent mechanic who can make miracles to help make make profit. Jekyll; and Hyde, Ying and Yang. It's very obvious that Mike is completely different in real life. If he played himself in the show, it would be extremely boring ... Interesting case. I have to admit , I was fooled by the internet to start with, but now I can see the other side. Don't judge the book by its cover has never been more relevant.
I dont understand why more blame hasnt been put towards production company/discovery. Mike was just tv host. The company relocated them to america and started to cut corners (we saw less of the actual work done to cars) and more bling and fake drama which is part of usual american shows. Remember shows like Pimp my ride where they never even showed or fixed mechanical things. Secondly because of that why would Edd even want to move to America? Ant went to america with Mike and now lives there cause he found his new wife there. Its obvious that many viewers left cause of Edd and now Mike is suffering cause he was the host. Edd is a mechanic. He can always fix cars. He also did cars for Top Gear. The issue is obviously that they are tv personalities now so maybe both want to be on the spotlight.
Ben is so good at this interviewing process -- he comes over-prepared but moves with the flow of the interview like very few others I have listened to. Loved Mike and his sidekick guys for years and really appreciated how he didn't disappoint -- he's the same guy in this interview as you see in Wheeler Dealers and the numerous other series. Love, love, love it!
Mike is a very clever, very articulate, half slimy car salesman, half TV diva. He used to get paid (a lot) to promote a classic car parts business I worked at. He strutted around the office like he owned the place, let his dog piss up our desks, and never said a word to anyone who wasn't high up in the company, would just ignore everyone as if they didn't exist. Too full of himself, massive ego, and completely different to his 'character' he has invented for the screen.
Poor DJNikGnashers. Brewer didn't massage his ego when he worked as the tea boy, and so he's going to carry on letting Brewer know about his sins every time he goes on line. Show us on this doll where Mike didn't touch you, DJNikGnashers. Did he not touch you in the naughty place? I bet Edd would have touched you there, amirite? And even if he didn't, the fantasy of the tall man with the floppy locks is SO much more gratifying than the little fat guy who didn't pay you enough attention when he visited your office. I feel for you. I really do.
Ya most are but when was that and do you belive he may have learned and changed now people like him are treated as gods and after awhile some of them begin to belive they are and ack like that but he could have changed
What a good insight into a guy that's only trying to make a life for himself. Social media us a place for people to assume they know the facts about someone when knowbody knows the real truth about that person apart from themselves. Enjoy the entertainment they bring and leave the judgment alone. Positively us the only way and let's leave Mike alone to get on with his life and as we can all do. Either enjoy what he does or chose to be entertained with someone else. The bloke is only doing what he does best and loves. Selling cars and having fun. Great interview and worth watching. Thanks Mike for many years of entertainment. And as well as Mike thank you edd China for your part it truly would not have been the same without the both of you. 😊😊.
There is no doubt how hard mike works and there's something bigger than what's being said between him and edd but their is something about mike with his back hand compliments and the like
@@rico5004That something bigger was, it was Mike's show, not Edd's but Mike magnanimously gave Edd a bigger part to help the show work. With its success Mike wanted a bigger on camera role & Edd chucked a wobbly & the like
Loved the interview, love Wheeler Dealers. I'm happy to see that Mike is a genuine person, that the host is the same as the person, many hosts change their personality because it is a job, and is understoodable, but usually the ones that are natural cativates easily, and Mike is one of them. I felt sorry when Ed left, but also liked the other mechanics and the dynamic with Mike.
Mike demonstrates that working hard while trying to be the best you can at it, and being interested in what you do can result in success. Funny that people who like doing something are really good at it. Well done Mike you are an inspiration.
What? very few car dealers get his chances. 99.99% slog away every day to earn a few quid. don't act like what he's doing is reality because it isn't. He is very lucky.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Mike, I've had the pleasure of meeting Edd... Two of the nicest guys in general, would I love to see Edd back on the show? Of course, I was there for series one episode one... But times change and people change, and what I would love more than anything is to see them back together one more time if only to dispel the hate once and for all, come on Edd... Pick up the phone mate, 7 years is too long... Make 2024 the year you both get to be mates again properly
"7 years is too long" Absolutely! I've seen a couple of interviews with Mike where he's tried to reach out to Edd and is genuinely gutted that his old mate won't even talk to him. For all the flack Mike 'old out yer 'and Brewer took when they went their separate ways, the longer it goes on, the more it just makes Edd seem quite bitter, petty and a bit of a dummy spitter. Even if he won't talk to Mike directly, would it kill him to put something out on his own channel to say that the past is the past, no hard feelings are felt and to wish Mike the best for the future? Of course, there are always two sides to every story and I guarantee we've not heard all the facts from either of them, but it does seem that any grudge which is still being held is only coming from one side. None of us are here forever and one day, it will be too late to make amends.
Edd put a video out straight after the split asking people to stop the abuse, saying the end was the end and no hard feelings and wishing the show the best of luck. He's moved on. There is a video of Mike not long after putting all the blame on Edd making out he thought he was too good to get his hands dirty when the show moved to LA. But it's just a TV show after all, I think Edd burnt a few bridges when he left, not just with Mike. No other major production company has picked him up bar the odd cameo on Car S O.S.
@@seanknight2516 I saw that video, but given the hate that's been brewing in the bottom half of the internet maybe it's time... I'm not asking for another series of WD (but I'd love it) but something from both men to get all the trolls out there to STFU and put all the bad feelings away for good... Maybe even get Autoalex or Tavarish or Matt Armstrong to moderate? Cause I doubt the three of them would be where they are now without the original WD series
I just got hit by a reality train, after that intro about his upbringing & passion-awareness. This has to be the most genuine (non-showman) legacy petrolhead in the running. No fuss or big ego (outside the show, lol) Just a classic family man who made some right decisions down the road. Thanks for another legendary talk RTS! Lovin' these podcasts!!
I've watched Wheeler Dealers for years and always liked it. Now I got to know Mike Brewer a little better and what a honoust and nice guy he seems to be. On top of that well done to the interviewer, really nice to watch/listen to your podcast. Well done!
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. I enjoyed Ed China but Ant & Elvis and the SHOW was the reason and formula that works for me . Being a car buff the show is what works keep it fresh.😊Good luck Mike.
1:09:00 or so. I would just like to say this about the Edd Ciyna 'debacle' the internet has created - and I've realized this 7 years ago! - Wheeler Dealers is Mike Brewer's show about Mike Brewer doing what Mike Brewer DOES. He's a wheeler dealer NO DOUBT. Edd did GREAT work in the garage with Mike's cars (or however it was done who owned them, probably Mike) and what I realized watching those years of the show, the first years, was that Mike was the hustler, the shaker and mover - as he is - and Edd is the mechanic, AS HE IS. Edd NEEDED to move on from that scene, he HAD TO. Edd is an amazing fabricator - look at all the cars he did for Guinness Book of Records and all the silly cars he created - That's Edd's way of doing the thing, and he's got over a million subscribers on his channel I'm pretty sure... but I never thought they had a falling out or a blow up, none of that.. and I also know from watching Edd's show on YT that he's had some stuff in his life that he's had to deal with, and sometimes there can't be a camera on you when you're dealing with life. So be it! I'm SO happy you did this interview. I love it, it's so great to hear Mike's story.. I love the way you interview, you're a great podcaster and you're GOING to make it here.. I know it. You do good work, you have a great attitude and a fantastic inquisitive personality, and you are, one day, going to have a studio, not a van : )
As an Aussie I've always enjoyed Mikes work :-) from Wheeler dealer early days to the Ant Anstead Era and I really should watch the Elvis era as well, Australia being right hand drive shares a lot of the UK's cars and I especially love old Jags and Land/Range Rovers but the lineup and content along with Mike, Ed and Ant's presentation just struck a chord with me. This podcast though set in stone what id always felt to be true about Mike being a great bloke with a love of cars he shares with the world and I can not think negatively of him despite the haters. Yup I hit the clickbait and soon realised I was being conned and bullshitted to which only further reinforced my love of the bloke and the journey he takes us on in every episode. I cant thank you enough with bringing Mikes story to Us all, Liked AND Subscribed.
A very uplifting and somehow sad at the same time interview . Wheeler dealers is a series I have dipped into and out many times over the years . As usual there is a lot of work goes on behind the scenes .A good thing is to remember is the good times Ed and Mike had together , Negativity and online abuse does nobody any good .My thanks to Mike and the mechanics😊 ,not for the music but for Wheeler Dealers .👍👍👍👍
I liked the TV chemistry between Mike & Ed and was slightly disappointed when Ed left. I heard Ed later explain on TH-cam why he left and I was rather disappointed that he sounded a bit bitter and twisted. I hope that Ed is doing OK, but from what I've seen of his work on TH-cam, it seems to lack the magic touch of Wheeler Dealers. Rather like Clarkson, Hammond and May were best together on Top Gear and were less impressive afterwards on Amazon, or in separate shows, IMO. I didn't know much about Mike's history and it is really interesting, as a personality he sounds a bit nicer to know as a friend, than I fear that a more bitter Ed might be.
Great rags to riches story. He summed it up perfectly..."you can have it too if you get off yr ass"!...if one thing doesn't work try something else...good for him. Great interview 👍
What a great interview. Many points come out of it. Just to put a few people straight, I always loved Edd China and tolerated Mike Brewer, just the way I am and have always had an aversion for slick talkers like MB. But before anybody says how great Edd is and makes any reference to his YT channel with nearly a million subscribers, they should have subscribed to Edd China's Workshop Diaries from the beginning like me, and seen what an absolute joke it now is. There has been no new content for a year now, what content there is is average at best, and he has been keeping the channel going for the last year by screening old episodes of Wheeler Dealers. which supposedly he hates. Like or loathe MB, at least he sees things through and carries the show on. There are some amazingly humble superstars out there, like Tom Hanks for instance, but like MB says about 6 times in this interview, he is just a guy who fixes up cars on TV, so maybe he could have just a bit less of an opinion of himself than he has. However, he does not deserve trolling to the extent that is happening. It's all down to personal preference in the end, I can't abide Jonathan Ross, but he still gets top billing.
I totally agree, I was recommended an Ed video this week and couldn't get through it, it lacks something, and was way too long, plus he spends time making tea and taking a nap in it!!!! Seriously, don't you wonder if he only got a lot of those subscribers as a backlash when both he and Mike had just had their separation?
@@Jez1963UK Hi. yes possibly. It's a shame, because I've spoken to Edd a couple of times at the NEC car show, and he seemed like a genuine nice bloke, but it would seem that his YT channel is just all about sponsorship and advertising, and like you say, if you take out all the nonsense like him making tea, sleeping, making a bar with a false polar bear etc. there is precious little content. There are some great restoration channels on YT, I guess we all like different things, but my favourites are: Yorkshire Car Restoration, Whiteland Restorations, Rusty Beauties, M539 Restoration, Dave's Garage, Trev's Blog and Restore It.
Exactly this, My feelings too, But the interview does cast a different light of Mike, I Love YCT, hopefully they get more traffic, subbed to a few of your suggestions, Couldn't believe the somewhat pointlessly expensive and obvious advert in Edds last epsode@@bobfrankish8883
@@bobfrankish8883 Edd's Workshop Diaries started well, with good content, and was well produced. He does like to focus on a particular topic in quite a lot of detail, which I'd quite liked. However, it seems he's lost all confidence and pretty much given up on the channel; and now it is just the odd bit of filler content from repeats. Most YT channels have advertising and product placement, so I wouldn't begrudge him some income from that, but there's got to be a balance between that and the real content. i get the impression all is not well in Edd's personal life, so maybe needs a bit of help to get him back on track?
Thank you Mike Brewer for creating some of the best content and shows in automotive and entertainment history. As a GenXer, you are one of my favorite people of all time! I hope to shake your hand someday, maybe at Concours Amelia Island hopefully, it's my back yard.
Let’s move on, to Mike’s credit he has managed to maintain Wheeler Dealers popularity, despite Ed leaving the the show. Mike has demonstrated that he is the guy that keep the show up to date and relevant. Ant and Elvis replaced Ed, excellent casting. They both brought a new dimension to the show, and revitalised it.
I admire MB's honesty, and I've thoroughly enjoyed all of his car shows! His background story is admiral and he deserves ALL of his blessings! Tell him to ignore the naysayers, and to enjoy his life, his family and his career. Keep on keeping on Brother! From a fan in the US!
I’m glad this video has been done, I loved the Mike and Edd era of wheeler dealers and was gutted when it went wrong. I follow Edd on TH-cam and have followed the new wheeler dealers, you see the click bait etc which must be gutting for Mike, but seeing Mike with AutoAlex etc has been brilliant and shows he’s a genuine guy, a car guy paying it forward to help others.. old out yer and 👍
Great interview. Mike's a legend and I have great respect for him particularly after hearing his story. Must admit I did enjoy the episodes he did with Edd as they were a great pair to watch as they had great chemistry. Hope Mike can keep going with whatever he wants but not to the point were it affects his health.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this podcast and thought it might be a weak and not much content to honest, but blimey was I wrong. You're a great interviewer Ben and Mike gave a great performance as the interviewee. Hugely interesting, great questions, very insightful and full of great stories. Ben is great at letting his guest open up and speak without constant interruptions and it shows and makes for a far more interesting piece to listen to or watch. Great stuff!
I’ve watched Wheeler Dealers for more years than I can remember. It’s been a staple of my automotive enjoyment for a very long time. I’ve met Mike in Person at a particular car show as well. And honestly, Mike was a real nice guy, with a great personality. The hate he was received since Edd decided to leave WD, has been so unnecessary. I feels it’s pretty obvious, as to why the show moved to the US. It was documented at the time. But things do move on. Anyway, it’s been great to hear more on Mike’s personal life 👍
The best interview I’ve ever seen, it should be televised very much respected to Mike what a guy love the guy and the show he can’t do no wrong in my eyes don’t let the shit heads get you down Mike your the number one guy 👍🏻
@@chuckschillingvideosHarsh! Have you achieved anything in life, I don't even mean comparing yours to MB. What truth you know couldn't fit on the side of a milk carton. Get over yourself no one cares what you dream about
What a great interview, I really hope this helps to put to bed the questions of what happened with him an Ed. Both guys have moved and so does everyone else.
Now this was an interesting interview. I've been watching Mike Brewer since his early days working with Richard Sutton, who you never see on TV now, which is a great shame. His review of the TVR 3000 was the best review I've ever seen: "Reassuringly toxic". Wheeler Dealers with Brewer & China was the perfect iteration of the show. The original and the one people fell in love with. I was always Team Edd as I found what he did far more interesting than Mike buying and selling but it's like when your favourite band split. When Roger Waters left Pink Floyd. Cornwell The Stranglers and Weller The Jam, people take sides as their ideal of perfection has been ripped apart. I've heard Mike say stuff about Edd in this interview I hadn't heard before and unless they ever get into a room and thrash it out, who knows where the truth really lies. One aspect I would take issue with is that you too can have a massive house, with a massive garden and car collection if you just get off your fat arse and work. That's bollocks. The world is full of people who work bloody hard, who work multiple jobs who never reach financial success or security, well they do for their boss. Hard work does not guarantee anything. The very nature of capitalism is there are winners and losers. Not everyone has the ability to be an entrepreneur. Not everyone gets the breaks.
I was Team Edd before the split as well. Mike used to get up my noise. Edd seemed more cerebral, Mike, the wide-boy chancer who'd have you off in a shot. After the break-up though, Mike maintained a dignified silence, Edd whined and complained like a stuck pig. I remember thinking at the time, 'we'll never see this guy on TV again. Seven years on, I much prefer Mike to Edd. He's an honest bloke of working class origins. Edd is a stuck-up ponce who came to think the show was all about him. His TH-cam channel is dull as ditchwater -- though he'll always have a fan base of car geeks who like to fap to that long floppy quiff, he's lost my eyeballs.
A friend of mine sells vans. He got a job in the parts department of a motorbike shop but the owner noticed how he easily he sold accessories with a new bike. He eventually got into selling vans for a nationwide dealership. He’s a lovely guy and just a natural people person with many repeat customers.
would love to see a similar interview with Ed China
Scroll down eds interview from 7yrs ago is there
To be fair, Edd in his book was honest about the reason he left - it wasn't Mike at all, it was because he wasn't happy with the way Discovery were taking the show, he had a break in his contract and he knew it would be easy to leave. Don't blame Mike or Edd - blame Discovery as they were the ones who made Edd leave.
As far as I know you are right. Discovery wanted to reduce time filmed in the workshop as it was expensive they said. And Edd didn't like the idea.
They were not the reason he left, it was an opertune time to leave because he wanted to do other things,go watch the late break show interview with Edd.
blame no one Ed left and life goes on
Mike Brewer deserves nothing but respect. He’s worked so hard and still has amazing levels of enthusiasm. If you want to succeed at anything, just adopt his attitude towards the task. Love him.
you can do everything right and the result can still be bad
@@Poxenium true, but if you don't try it will never happen in the first place.
A typical car dealer (wheeler dealer), if the offer is good - no friends, interest prevails...
Correct. People who hate on Mike are jealous of his success. He has worked hard and deserves all he has achieved. Mike has our love.
I think Edd was more in Mike's pocket. Remember it was Mike's show, his idea, his concept his sweat equity, his recruiting of Edd
He fingered Ed’s wife.. shame on him
@@phillipmalkin1169 As far as I know there is zero evidence that ever happened.
When Mike started talking about himself, and presumably his siblings, having to go out and scrump food for the table, in the nineteen sixties, as if it was the nineteen thirty's, in a family that had their own car? ...please, I call bs, talk about embellishing a story 🤔🤣
I loved the original WD, sad that it ended the way it did, but if you watch Ed's TH-cam channel there's WAY too much technical stuff, boring as f. For me, they both levelled each other out perfectly, but like everything in life, all good things come to an end, and I'd now prefer to watch the new WD than Ed's channel, funny how things turn out 😆
I heard the same but to me there’s still loads of hands on mechanical time when Ant took over,I haven’t noticed much change really🤔
Thanks that saved me 2 hours of my life
How has this channel only at 27.5k subs - it has some of the beswt interviews on youtube and so refreshing having someone let their guests talk, rather than constantly interupting. love Mike Brewer and this channel.

Yea, threats are daft and subject to arrest! But it’s definitely not the same without Ed 😢

Great interview. Used to love watching wheeler dealers on a Sunday on Discovery as a lad. Back to back episodes. Hadn't realised it was so long ago.
Great interview Mike thanks for the many years you have put into Wheeler Dealers and the pleasure it has bought to many of us !
Mike's story is so heart warming......you're a gent Mike you've done so well mate
pant sniffer

Great interviewee, great interviewer, great story. Respect to you, Mike.
He fingered Ed’s wife.. shame on him
Why do people have a problem with Mike.?? Because he's done well for himself.... and he thrived. Good on you man...
perhaps you should view the footage of him panning Edd with all sorts of lies.....
I’m sitting on the edge watching one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen on TH-cam
My respects to you Mr Brewer for your genuine sincere answers. I have always admired you and your shows. I was engulfed by the interview showing me much more than I had expected. Knowing about your life, just a little makes me feel proud of you. 😊
He fingered Ed’s wife.. shame on him
I have met Mike a few times. He’s a lovely guy and very down to earth. He’s interested in people and his emotional intelligence shines through in every aspect of his life.
Brewer is an absolute legend. I was never really keen on Edd, but I dont dislike him, nor do I feel the need to pick between the two. Happy motoring
What a brilliant interview, from start to finish....definitely look at Mike Brewer in a different light with a new found respect👌
What an incredible story film worthy full of twists and turns. Nothing but admiration for what is such an inspiring story. Well done that man!!!
What a really great watch! Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the pair of you having a down to earth conversation.
That chandelier story is priceless. What a guy. Big respect having the balls and the savy nature to pull that one off. Fair play.
Don't let the haters get to you Mike, we all love you!!
Really pleased there was never any feud between you guys, Mike and Ed, I wish you well. 😊
Exactly as I suspected!
Comeon, tell the truth, he didn't at all let his dog do that and you are just full of shit
I'd hardly describe him as articulate.
Gobby, perhaps.....
Well done Mike. Loved Wheeler Dealers since season 1.
Your enthusiasm is so infectious! Ed was great, Ant was great and Marc is great.
With its success Mike wanted a bigger on camera role & Edd chucked a wobbly & the like
Nearly in tears of laughter about the del chandelier story , god bless ya
Wheeler Dealers starts @ 57:40 (ish), Edd China comments start @1:08:00
Loved the interview, love Wheeler Dealers. I'm happy to see that Mike is a genuine person, that the host is the same as the person, many hosts change their personality because it is a job, and is understoodable, but usually the ones that are natural cativates easily, and Mike is one of them. I felt sorry when Ed left, but also liked the other mechanics and the dynamic with Mike.
He fingered Ed’s wife.. shame on him
Really enjoyed that, great start to the year, thank you for creating this content ❤
He fingered Ed’s wife.. shame on him
Mike demonstrates that working hard while trying to be the best you can at it, and being interested in what you do can result in success. Funny that people who like doing something are really good at it. Well done Mike you are an inspiration.
What? very few car dealers get his chances. 99.99% slog away every day to earn a few quid. don't act like what he's doing is reality because it isn't. He is very lucky.
I he’s not bad at anything is he 😂😂
I've had the pleasure of meeting Mike, I've had the pleasure of meeting Edd...
I like Mike always have don’t understand why he always gets so much hate. Happy new year mate 👍🇬🇧
He fingered Ed’s wife.. shame on him
What an awesome podcast. Your fans at The Intercooler turned us on to it ! Tons of episodes to watch now. Great interviewing.
An excellent interview, very well done, hope you go from strength to strength Ben.
I love Mike, Ant AND Ed. Great guys, great show.
He fingered Ed’s wife.. shame on him
I’ve warmed up to Mike quite a bit over the last few years and I’m glad TH-cam suggested this video.
Edd is a blatant grifter. He clearly has a prima donna attitude and hates his ex-fans. I lost all respect for him a decade ago.
I never watch, but surely Elvis brought in a whole new demographic that's traditionally less into cars? 😀
Crazy for me to sit through, 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Great interviewing technique with good questions, and letting Mike speak.
Just watched the complete interview. What a nice person he is, i would be honoured to have 😊 Mike as my close neighbour. 🎉🎉
I follow Edd on TH-cam and have followed the new wheeler dealers, you see the click bait etc which must be gutting for Mike, but seeing Mike with AutoAlex etc has been brilliant and shows he’s a genuine guy, a car guy paying it forward to help others.. old out yer and 👍
I really like this genuine bloke!!
What an inspirational guy. Deserves total respect, great podcast!!
Exactly what part of Mike Brewer do you find inspirational? The ego? The grift? The casual attitude with respect to the truth?
@@chuckschillingvideosHarsh! Have you achieved anything in life, I don't even mean comparing yours to MB. What truth you know couldn't fit on the side of a milk carton. Get over yourself no one cares what you dream about
What a great interview, I really hope this helps to put to bed the questions of what happened with him an Ed. Both guys have moved and so does everyone else.
Mike is responsible for a lot of people's love of cars. Nothing but respect for this guy.
Great podcast loved all of Mikes shows and watched them from the beginning and its repeats time and time again. keep Wheeler dealer coming.
Funny how the story changes on every single podcast he's ever done. Almost like he's forgotten which version is the truth.
WOW! Looking forward to this one lads! I dont care about drama...just wanna hear Mike's background and how he became such a legend!
