    Thanks so much! This is the only method on TH-cam that doesn't involve removing the whole lamp. It was simple and took about 5 minutes. It was exactly the same on my 2008 Subaru Outback. YOU ROCK!

    I love when the mechanics say they want 90$ in labor to replace your cabin air filter? Seriously? Hold on I have to catch my breath from laughing so hard. Its a 15$ to 20$ cabin air filer, and its in the back of your glove compartment. A little knowledge like you see here can save you big money. Thank you Mamachanic !

      johnpa2006 that was just proposed to me at the dealership! TH-cam to the rescue and $15 and 10 mins later (will take less than 5 next time) I’m done! And had a woman wait on me at AutoZone -- yeay! Women are doin it for ourselves.

      So johnpa2006, just do it yourself. No sense bitching. Why pay for a burger and fries at a restaurant when its 10 dollars cheaper at home...why?.. I'll tell you why, cuz you didn't have to do it yourself.

    Great, just did it. Thanks for the detailed instructions. One note: there is an orange washer ring. Make sure you don't try to put it back (like I did) with the old and new washer ring. Just the new washer ring, OK.

    Thanks for taking the time to do a video (and to remind us to keep our fingers off the bulb)! You saved me time figuring it out the hard way, appreciate your kindness!

    Thank you for the clear and to-the-point demonstration!! I keep this video saved and watch it every time the driver's side lamp burns out in my 2011!!

    Thanks...just seeing how those fit together was really helpful in preventing me from twisting and yanking the cover and bulb the wrong way.

    Thank you. You showed it very clearly and it looks simple. Haven't done it yet. A little nervous about it. When I went o buy the bulbs, they said high beam or low beam. So I said both. The thing is, when you are looking at the car from the outside, you can't see two bulbs...only one...are there really two? They recommended Sylvannia 9006 and H11. Was about $28 for both. I have a 2010 Subaru Forester 2.5X

      Marge Pellew you should be able to turn on your headlights then your brights intelligible this out. Usually the guys at the parts counter's are super helpful to they might be able to come outside and check it out for you

  • @mamachanic
    @mamachanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That is the question for the parts department. I don't think they tell you something that you don't need but some bulbs are dual filament so they are both high and low beam and one bulb

    The cover at the back of the headlight assembly is hard to turn sometimes. It's not as easy to get that off. But once off the rest is 123.

      It was a bear to get the cap off. Even using a hammer and screw driver on the fins. I got it off only by prying it straight off. I never could get it back on with the gasket in place. Went to dealership and he put a little WD40 on it and then it went on easily for him. He said otherwise they stick. I thought it was because the gasket was too thick, not so, it just sticks. Kudos to Dick Hanna Subaru., Vancouver WA! No charge....did take him 5 seconds to screw back on.

      Normally they would charge $60, including the bulb. $17 for bulb at O'Reilly Auto

    • @mamachanic

      Gabriel Kauper osram bulbs have always worked well for me but any brand should work well if you're careful

      Thanks for the speedy reply. :-D I settled on Philips 3400K Xenon bulbs, bc I trust that brand and can get them in a day. Amazon has a car-matching feature to ensure you buy the right ones. Who knew! www.amazon.com/Philips-X-tremeVision-Upgrade-Headlight-Bulb/dp/B00U1OIESK

    Read the manual and it mentions HID bulbs and how they can do you serious injury due to electrical charge - how do I know if I have HID bulbs?? SCAREY!
    Can I put my Vin into some database to find correct replacement or will the parts place do this? Thanks so much

    • @mamachanic
      @mamachanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pamela Spooner parts place should be able to help you out. The HID bulbs are usually much brighter.
