So many people get this mixed up. There is a very die hard MR2 community that is a bit fanatical about our cars. It really is one of the best groups I have been apart of. Lots of good help and not a lot of hate, unless you put a Honda engine in your car. Lol. Other than that some of the best people. The fact that there are not many MR2's in any given area means the online community is the huge and it's cool to have something unique. I love rolling up to a car meet and being the only one.

20g, injectors, fuel pump, tune, E85 and you're in the 400whp range.

I race a 1994 N/A MR2 it's a little bit lacking on the HP side of things compared to the likes of Integras and Blacktop Levins (Only cause my engine needs a bit of a recon) but oh boy is it alot of fun.

Hey David, Have you ever thought of doing a review of a 5th gen Prelude Type SH? Pretty unique idea by honda to add ATTS to a fwd coupe. Pretty hard to find these days and could be a fun review.

    Understeer scares drivers.

Finally David getting on the MR2 train :D p.s. unless the owner has done crazy witchcraft with the 3S-GTE, it's not a twin turbo. I don't know anyone who puts two turbos on a 2L inline 4 lol. Awesome video though!

The 2GR is a good, but expensive swap for the SW20. 1MZ, 2MZ, and 3VZ swaps are much more common because the engines are cheaper.

Hi gyus. I had 300zx and my workmite sold mr2, sold it to me. and i liked it. I sold my ZX despite MR2 was NA. After that I bought JDM MR2 GEN2. I had it for a year. than I had MX5, MX5 turbo, GT Forester. I drove a lots of Civic's, Evo's, Impreza's Supra.., V8's and you know what.... MR2 is a unique car. Now I drive MR2 with GEN4 engine in it. If you like mr2 and you have it - do not sell it (unless for mr2 Turbo or JDM upgrade) otherwise you regret it.

Definitely my favorite generation of MR2. Incredibly fun to drive. My best friend had one with around 350+ hp with just an aftermarket turbo. He liked to call it the "mini Ferrari" while my third gen prelude was the "mini NSX"
I think you might actually know him personally, and i think I met you once through him.

I actually want one of these BAD! I know all about the snap oversteer, which is why I would seek out a '93 or newer with the revised suspension. This car's styling is GORGEOUS in my opinion. It is also timeless, just like an FD RX-7, which is another car I want REALLY badly. I also love the under appreciated Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, yes, I know those cars are a nightmare to work on, but I don't care. The Toyota MR2 Turbo is one of my favorite Toyotas, second only to a MK IV Supra.

  • @pnwmv

I own an SW20 and I'm saving for an AW11. I love all the generations but it's hard to say the 2nd gen is the best. They're all just great in their own ways.

I had a red 91 MR2 Turbo with black leather interior. One of the things that sticks out in my mind was looking in the rear view mirror and seeing the louvered hood and big wing. Made me feel like I was in an Italian exotic.

Great MR2 - you're right, VERY clean, probably the nicest example I've seen. I'd love to have one of these, I had a huge Fiero kick for a while, and been in love with small rear engine cars ever since. The MR2 is probably one of the best IMO.

My first car was a 1987 MR2 and it was easily my favorite car out of the 3 cars I've owned... minus all the headaches of maintenance and upkeep. I have a lot of fond memories around MR2's. My AW11 was automatic, but I learned how to drive stick in my dad's SW20. It was a blast driving with almost 100 MR2's during an MR2 meet/run and seeing some of the CLEANEST MR2's. This video makes me miss my AW11 and my dad's SW20, but I doubt I'll ever buy another one.

  • @bubarowe
    @bubarowe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nice review, glad you liked the car. I have six of various marques including a race na mk2, a mk1 , mk3 roadster and a GTS turbo. The best handling is the mk1 without a doubt with the mk3 close behind. I'd argue with your comment about them being hard to work on, actually because the engine is in the back and things like brake booster and reservoirs are in the front there's more room than in some front engined cars. It's a bit tight down the side if you want to do a cam belt with the engine in, but it can be done. And it's really easy to drop the engine (three or four hours max) if you have the knack and then everything is easy. Dropping the engine is just a matter of reversing how they put it in in the factory, in a big lump, with all the loom attached and out the bottom,

I had one of these a few years ago (the JDM 260bhp GTS). loved everything about it, the speed, power, responsiveness and the sound of Darth Vader breathing in your ears having the motor right behind your head. but I had to sell it. one day I was going up a slight incline with slight turn at the top. it was heavily raining. but I was doing the speed limit of 30mph on the road. as soon as I hit the crest of the hill. boost kicked in and swung the rear of the car so fast and instantly it was impossible to catch. ended up spinning 360 and being on the other side of the road. no other cars coming. but that car could have killed me that day. so I had to sell up and got an impreza v5 sti for the AWD and haven't looked back since.

I had an UK NA that ended up grinding from third to second. Synchromesh just gave out. It was a crazy 1st and 2nd. you could hit 67 in second but third took you to 100 happily.
The gap between gears was too much.
Used to 0-60 in about 7.4 seconds tho.
    Loved that car.

This was my first sports car. It taught me how to drive fast skilfully but also almost killed me a few times ha ha..I would love to see Toyota bring this back, I would buy instantly. Currently have NC Club MX-5, looking to get a Lotus Elise in a few years. Miss that mid-engine life!

I've owned 2 91 mr2s.. from all the cars I've driven and owened, and I own an 07 rx8.. the mr2 is the best driving, most fun, especially where the shifter sits.. my favorite car of all time.. you can actually move your seat, not like an s2k

I have a widebody Naturally aspirated 91' MR2 and I absolutely love it! i would like to do a swap on it soon. im looking to find a good turbo to come along with it. I can only imagine how much better it's going to be to drive around town here in Cali. That bieng said the MR2 is probably my favorite sports car for me!

So there's 2 things I noticed that are wrong:
    1. The steering wheel is from a Celica
    2. The MR2 never came with twin-turbos
    Still love you David 👍🏼😂

Hey, this isn't a twin turbo.... not trying to dis you man, i love your channel. I used to own a 91 MR2 turbo and replace the motor 4 or 5 times with JDM turbo engines. The engine has a single twin entry turbo. Keep up the great work!!!!

  • @VerboseSlayer

depending on the time of the year you can get a stock one of these for under £1k in the UK.
(The reason for the price is because mandatory insurance is a killer in this country.)

The Mk1 MR2 usually didn't have QUITE as much snap oversteer but the original version of the Mk2 MR2 had a ton if you didn't replace a few suspension components. The sway bar was upgraded somehow in the second version and onwards.
