If someone asks me, "Do you want coffee or tea?" it's evident upon close examination that a decision is made by awareness and then a thought, "I'll have a coffee," pops up AFTER the decision has been made by the universe.
Free will is not even possible as there in reality no one there to have it. However as a concession to the mind, I like the explanation of a snooker table... A ball hits another and as a result of a host of variables different balls go in different directions. The same is true for the apparent person. The variable are amongst others, DNA, life experience to date, environment etc.
The mind attaches labels to what already was, is and ever will be. Go with it and the flower with and the flower will open itself. Life is unfolding itself
Free will would require a separate entity. There is none. If you think you are a person, you are still dreaming. Consciousness is all there is, exactly as in any dream you ever had. Although it does take awakening to be able to realize it, each and every time.
I have long felt that the answer is no. Many people find that idea disturbing but it doesn't bother me. Life is just as rich and satisfying without it, no? Hi everyone! 🌻
“I couldn’t feel or even sense a way that I would ever be moved again to action” this is where I am and have been for way too long. It’s not intentional, I feel almost paralyzed 😭😭
Focus on owning the little decisions and take it from there. It's true that the circumstances are not exclusively of our doing or choosing, but we absolutely do have the power to choose this or that in the light and context of those circumstances. Notice when you are choosing, say, tea or water and know that even though you didn't make either of those things, you are, right now, thirsty and it is your choice to take tea or water. Good luck!
I believe in reincarnation and that the soul does choose to be born. I’ve watched a few nde stories where it was explained to them that their life was planned out to a degree with the intention of learning certain things to help that soul grow. Anyone else believe the same.🙏
Just like we think dreams are not out own creation . Life , good or bad is our own creative dream ; Forget about the details , it all disapears on TRUE awakening.
So if 'my life and my thoughts' are being operated through something that cannot be describe... does that mean... a thought about "achieving a certain goal" randomly pops up in the mind, then "no action was taken by 'me' to achieve that goad" happens by itself, then another thought pops up" judging 'myself' being lazy"... these are just happening? and the false sense of 'self' just suffering through thoughts? :D
Difficuilt to answer, it seems some situations no, then in others yes. I do think we can be guided with our thoughts and so have made a decision on that guidance. To me that is not exactly free will. It's obvious a dictator is not guided or is that wrong. Is that dictator guided say by the devil and which is left to get on with it. We really don't know what is happening, what the big picture is if you like, what is happening in the background, what God's intensions are. I have actually seen something that did show to me that we can be manipulated. Did not realise at the time, and only realised a while later. Without going into detail an Angel appeared out of nowhere and with split second timeing stoped a situation dead. Also I believe blanked our minds so as to forget it all in an instant. This I truly believe and it was for my best intensions. So are we guided and on a path and that path is watched. We obviously have to go through pain and that won't change, but maybe their is say a nudge here and there, a thought so as to steer us through life as God intends for us.
If I use CRISPR technology to manipulate my dna. Is it my dna that is causing the change or is it the brain? And does my reality change when I change the sequencing of the output?

The action happens before the thought. The thought comes after the action to justify the action.
There is very limited free will in that we can make choices, but there are many other choices that we were not aware of.
