  • Ride with us for 177 miles of beautiful New York State countryside and view the historical artifacts of the Erie Canal. There are so many reminders of how the canal transformed New York into the Empire State, and we will do more than take a ride -- we will let you know what you are riding over and past. We will ride over the only restored, navigable aqueduct, view one of the few remaining Lock Tenders Homes, ride right through a lock, see one of two dry dock facilities, watch as boats move through a lock, see one of two surviving Change Bridges, ride into downtown Rochester and see where the Erie Canal originally went right through the center of town, marvel at the historic Flight of Five locks in Lockport, and ride along the Niagara River to the terminus of the canal in Buffalo at Canalside.

    I'm retiring in 3 months and planning to spend my summer ebiking with my little dog. I've really enjoyed your narratives on these rides. Wondering about your work history before retirement? I have been working as a Social Worker for the past 40 years. It's now time to relax and have some fun. Your videos have piqued my interest for probable trips. I live in WVa where we have several rail trails.

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You have some great rail trails in WVA! We've only ridden on 1 (North Bend Rail Trail) because we want to save some of the trails closer to home for places to go in the future that don't take days to get to. We just retired June 2023. Up until then we worked, but I was self-employed for the last 17 years, and Randy had a lot of flexibility in his job, so we were able to take a lot of trips before we actually retired. You may have seen the video of our 40 day cross-country road trip. That was our first big act post retirement. Since that trip we can't figure out when we'll have time to stay home -- we have so many places we want to go. Thanks for watching.

      Hi Don. How are you and Nancy? I sent you a Facebook Messenger note last week and didn't get a reply, so maybe I have the wrong Don??? Sure looked like you. Thanks for the feedback on the video. My first 20 minute + one. We just bought a drone and I used it riding through the lock -- so now we can bring our videos to new heights!! Randy just recovered from Knee replacement surgery so we are getting ready to get back out on the trail -- Washington DC late May.

    Good afternoon! Great videos of the Canal ride. I am going to ride this summer with the supported Parks NY ride. I have a few such rides under my belt riding with a supported ride but this will be my first multi-day ride with my ebike under me. I've had the bike out for a couple of S24O's and I have loved it! Both times it involved camping with no charging. One of the trips was on the Flint Hills trail out of Ottawa Kansas (great place, you guys would like it!!) and no issues at all with battery life because it is pretty flat. The other was some good climbs here in Colorado and I made it back home on my last bar!! I have purchased an extra battery for this trip for peace of mind even if I find I don't need it. Keep up the nice work on the videos. Oh yeah, have you heard about batteries for bikes on Amtrak?? I plan on putting them in my carry-on bag but I would like to keep one on the bike just so I don't have to lug two around with me.

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks for the update on your rides and the tip on the Flint Hills Trail -- I've added it to my biking wish list! I don't think there are any restrictions to having your ebike batteries on the trail. We have run into instances when we are loading our bikes onto a train where they have asked us to remove our batteries from our bikes. I think that was more related to weight than any issue about batteries. Thanks for watching!

      Hi Nelson, Thanks for watching. We have Gazelle Ultimate C8 bikes. These is our second ebike purchase -- we learned so much after our first; but technology is also changing every day. We are really happy with the Bosch drive and the fact that we don't have a derailer. We can shift from a dead stop. I keep hoping we'll get a chance to do a video on our bikes, but we haven't gotten there yet!

    Great series- I love my ebike! Have been able to ride so much more with just that little bit of assist! I am curious when you do these rides do you worry about unexpected inclines or terrain draining your batteries before you hit your destination?

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for supporting our channel. We love to make these videos because it gets us looking at places where we might not normally have gone. We keep pretty close track of battery life. We usually start in the lowest assist level on the outbound and know our limits once we see how the trail plays out. Sometimes it does stop us from going a little farther. We had an instance where my battery died exactly at the end of our trip. We were lucky because those are heavy bikes to ride without the assist!!!

    I want to do the Erie Canal on my e-bike. I want to go from Albion New York to Buffalo and Niagara Falls. And I would like to ride the Empire Trail 2 new York City I have walked the trail in Rochester. My friend actually gets paid to walk the canal Middleport and that area which is not far from Batavia where I live. He probably don't even allow e-bikes but they do for me because I have one leg. I have a very good picture of that fridge in Rochester we were there the day before it was open.

    How many days did this trip take? How far will your bikes go on a charge? You should do a video talking about your bikes, range, and any issues you may have experienced with them on the trails. Great Work! Keep riding, and stay safe!

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI, since we live along the Erie Canal we did in in pieces over a several month period of time and then pieced it together into a video. You could probably ride BUF to SYR in 4 days easily. Our current bikes go about 90 miles on a charge. The bikes we had when we rode the Erie Canal had a maximum range of 40 miles. We plan to do a video on our current bikes as well as our bike carrier. That’s more likely a winter posting. We haven’t had any issues with our bikes on the trails. Even when we rode the train in Lehigh Gorge they didn’t even ask us to take the batteries off. “See” you on the trail again soon.

    This is a great video, loved the mix of history with the riding. I live near Macedon NY and have ridden sections of the trail. I would like to do a ride from Buffalo back to Macedon. When you are doing trips like this, what do you do for transportation? I am trying to figure out how to get me and the bike to Buffalo to start the ride back home.

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Thanks for watching and the positive feedback. I really enjoy researching the history of where I am riding. Glad to hear you do as well. As far as riding from BUF to Macedon, we don't have any magic secret -- we jump in the car and park where we want to start and then have to ride back to the car. So we didn't do this trip in 1 ride -- but over several rides. Would be curious to know if you find a ride service that will take you and your bike to BUF.
