Our family had dogs when I was a kid. I really loved them, and will always miss them, but as a companion animal, I'm most likely to stick with rabbits as an adult. Pebbles is terrified of dogs, so I make sure she doesn't have unnecessary exposure to them and keep them from being too near her carrier. I have cats, but they ignore her, even though she tries to be friendly with them. That makes me feel sad for her.

Our two bunnies are very used to our two Labrador dogs and the younger dog will often just lay in their pen with them and not want to leave haha!
We actually acquired the buns due to another family member getting them but then not having the time to properly look after them. We are definitely more 'dog' people, but we do love the bunnies. I wouldn't be without a dog, they are my world

We’ve had a bunny for 3 years now. He is free-roamed and the 5th member of our family. We also just got a puppy 3 weeks ago. At first, she got way too excited when she would see him (she is fenced off). Then we started feeding them carrots side by side and this has helped immensely in terms of desensitizing her. Our bunny is not afraid of her at all. I think they’re going to get along great. Right now I still love our bunny more because he’s been with us but I think I will love them both the same.

I got him from someone else when he was 3 or 4 and lived to around 7 or 8 … the old owners didn’t care for him properly and when I got him he was matted… he was a lion head, within days of having him he was comfortable enough to let me cut the matte out … and he loved hopping up on the couch and also I never had the cage closed, and so often he would hop up and climb up and out to see me when I got home… I miss him like crazy !

I had a free roaming Flemish giant and everyone who met him said he was basically a dog. He came when you called his name, he loved to come up and meet new people, he loved to play in our yard(supervised) he even loved my dad's dog when they would visit. He would follow my dad's dog around our house, hop in between her legs. They would even sit by my back door together and look out the window. I don't think he realized he was a bunny 🤣 So for those who are still on the fence or worried your bunny won't be as personable, they can& will be! As long as you put in the work

      @lotrtim ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's very sad about your rabbit. Good chance Lorelei won't be able to, but you can apply all the tips and tricks she provides to convince your mom. Here's a few recommendations that helped me convince my parents
      1. Spent tons of time outside with your bunny. Show that your love for him isn't a fleeting thing and how much he means to you.
      2. Get him litter-trained. Get him introduced to the same litterbox you'd use in the house that way he's familiar with where he needs to do his business. Hopefully he's already nuetered because it's essential if you want zero accidents. My first bunny wasn't and she occasionally pooped and peed in other spots but my second bunny was as soon as he was old enough and he hasn't had an accident for the 3 years I've had him
      3. Slowly introduce him to the house. Move away from a cage and start out in an enclosure on the porch if you have one. Then a pen in a room. Then eventually to the entire room and beyond!
      4. Miticulously clean their habitat. Their odorless like she says in her video, so that's already solved, but make sure to brush him and keep the fur away. Show that having in the house won't change anything for the worse.
      5. Set aside money, bunny proof, and prepare hideyhouses and toys. Go through with the preparations like they already said yes. Then all you need is the go signal and everything is already set up for him.
Best of luck! Don't stop trying and update me when you've succeeded😉

@@lotrtim @Timothy McGregor thank you so much if he does come inside though there's a high chance you'd be in a puppy pen by mom would never let him be free roam and sadly he's not neutered but I have enough money to neuter him I just don't know if I should or not yet I've been reading and that there's a small chance that they won't wake up and it scares me I have a vets number to do it and I'm allowed to take him inside when I'm playing with him and then I have to put them back outside to sleep:(

I’m solidly a CAT PERSON, and would never voluntarily own a dog. But I went without a pet for many years after the cat that owned me passed. I had a few hamsters, but their relatively short lifespans were heartbreaking. After watching “Lennon The Bunny”’(of course!) and “One More Please” (Pipkin, and now Pigpoke), we decided to become a rabbit family in late 2019.
No regrets. We had some overlap between our last hamster and our new bunny. The bun would hop into the hamster’s bin cage and steal her lettuce. We had to keep an eye on that………..
I’ve found my rabbit to be a great pet. The downside is that our Bun doesn’t like to be picked up AT ALL. He was good with it during his first month when he lived primarily in a cage. But once we free-roamed him (after a Lennon-inspired rabbit-proofing), he wouldn’t allow us to pick him up anymore. But our Bun does love nose rubs, and will gently nudge back. When he loafs-out, does a Sphinx, or a super-bun, he becomes a fur-covered attention sponge.
Feeding a rabbit is much more involved than a cat or a dog. We bought a “salad spinner” to help with the washing of dandelion greens, kale, and radicchio. Those items, plus “Little Leaf” lettuce mix, are our Bun’s staples, along with hay and pellets. And then there is the trio of litter boxes our Bun routinely destroys.
    Rabbit ownership is therapeutic.

We have a morkie dog named Spooky, and a mini lop named Jelly.. We took it very slow at first.. Jelly didn't care to much about the dog walking around, but at first Spooky was nervous and shy around Jelly. After a few weeks Spooky loved sitting next to Jelly.. and now they are best of friends. I always pet them both together, feed them both with treats together, we all have a big bond doing everything together and they both love it. Spooky being a shy dog helped make that bond.. So nice watching them lay down side to side, and bounce and run together, really wonderful.. life is good!!

I prefer my bunny but I have a dog and a cat. They all get along great. My son’s dog on the other hand wants to eat the bunny so they are kept apart always. ❤️

i have both, my rabbit doesn't mind my dog, i think he wants to be friends to be honest, but my dog, although has a low prey drive gets quite excited (overly excited) when he binkys/zoomies, and can be quite interested in him, so we keep them separate, my dog barely ever sees him, so they live quite well together....from a distance😅

    • @hattieives4158
      @hattieives4158 ปีที่แล้ว

im not sure if that actually makes sense, i'll try explain it better, my dog likes to play a lot, and thinks when my rabbit (Alby) runs around is him trying to play with her, so she tries to play with him, but in a very dog like manner, so we keep them apart

I am a dog and bunny person, I just love all animals, I have been watching your videos for a few years and I am so excited to finally get my own bunnies!! I do have a dog tho, she is 13 and fine around all animals, so it helped that the bunnies I'm getting have been around dogs since birth

I have both a rabbit and dogs, and they are separate at all times, my bunny lives in my room while my dogs are outside, to prevent any accidents as one of my dogs is a very active hunter, constantly looking for little iguanas on my backyard. I definitely love both species ❤

Both!! And I love them both so much!!! My senior dog Baxter is 14.5 years old. I have a 9 month old bunny and am attempting to bond him with another bun. When Bax decides its time to cross the rainbow 🌈 bridge (like his brother Bentley recently did 😭😭😭😭😭), I will likely stick with buns (bonded buns).

When I adopted my bunny, he was terrified of my dog, and my dog was terrified of him. They avoided each other but watched each other closely for months until my bunny suddenly decided my dog was safe and started binkying around her, chasing her, and constantly trying to get her to play. My dog is still a little wary of him, but she recently let him snuggle up next to her on my bed and take a nap. I couldn't pick a favorite species, considering my precious pair of poodle-bunny siblings

We are a rabbit family had a Black called Mr Bean he was a RSPCA rescue and he also had 2 friends Chewy and Jessica they all lived together in my dining room.
When Jessica lost both of her best friends we re-homed a rabbit that was abused called Oswald it took a long time to gain his trust as at first he cowered in the corner. Jessica would not bond with him so he lives in our living room. He is quite a loving character and we have gained his trust over 18 months he would love for Jessica to accept him as they can only cuddle through the playpen under supervision.

Hello! I have both dogs and rabbits. I think it is totally possible to have both as long as you are committed to training your dog. I have a 14 year old lab, who could not care less, and a 4 year old lab. I actually got the dogs ways before the rabbits.
I have strict boundaries in place. The rabbits have their own room, and xpen as a home base. I will let the rabbits to free roam, but I limit their access to my house, as I want them to be supervised. My dogs were leashed around my rabbits, until I could trust them to be unleashed.
I do not play with my dogs around my rabbits EVER. I want the dogs to associate the rabbits with being calm. I don’t expect them to be friends. The rabbits are actually more interested in the dogs, then the dogs are in the rabbits. My dogs ignore them most of the time, which is exactly what I want.
So it is totally possible to have both! Just keep your expectations realistic and be prepared to put some work in.

I prefer Bunnies. But, we have a Bunny and Dog. And they both get along really well! We've had the dog since he was a puppy and got the Bunny when she was...2.. She's 3/4 now. The dog is a schnauzer, and they tend to attack bunnies, but they actually play with each other and drink water together. Its really cute. Love your videos and the bun-bun!

    I have a dog, 2 bunnies, 2 guinea pigs, a snake and a hamster 🤭
My pup is a terrier and always chases after birds, rabbits etc outside, but inside he is fine (few play chases when he was younger but my bunnies told him off as well as I did) they only interact when I am home, the bunnies have their own room and I separate them with a gate. I have taken in some dogs for daycare as well and always keep the gate closed just to be safe, but all my babies have been fine with the new dogs 😊

I have a New Zealand bunny and a pit mix, they’re great pets! I’m so glad they get along too. A rabbit is way better for financial and a place with less space(like an apartment) both pets are great for company and lovings though! I see both the same just ones smaller then the other (rabbits are my favorite animals though!)

I have a dog, and wanted to get a bunny. I discussed it with a vet first. Once I specified the bunny would be free-roam, the vet discouraged the adoption firmly, to avoid putting the bunny in danger. So... no bunny for me, 'cos I'm not keepin a bunny in a cage

Thanks for the amazing video Lorelei! Rabbits are so misunderstood and underestimated, but thanks to your videos that is changing 🙏 I’m a rabbit mama to 4 beautiful buns; 3 Netherland Dwarfs & 1 Holland Lop; Munchkin (boy) and my 3 princesses; Daisy, Bailey & Weenie …My 12 yr old Yorkie Cupcake is so gentle and likes to play with them. We are one big happy family 😂 love them all. I’ve raised all the buns from babies & I’ve always cuddled them and they love being snuggled. Rabbits 🐰 are a girls best friend for sure! I find them easier to care for than my doggie girl who is high maintenance. I love that the bunnies don’t need walks, baths and are quiet! 🥰😍 Bunnies are the best! 🐰🐰🐰🐰
