SEGA is a retro company whether they like it or not. They’ve barely survived the last couple decades. If it weren’t for licensed old IP and minis they wouldn’t exist. I don’t see how they could do anything that would make them suddenly relevant to younger new generations of gamers.
And in all likelihood anything they did make along those lines would sell out immediately. Both mini consoles sold really well, the mini 2 selling out within days on Amazon. I don’t know why Nintendo and Sega seem to have an aversion to mini consoles. The market is there. Atari and others are doing really well out of it. And then you have the chromatic etc It’s a massive industry and I think it will only get bigger as more and more people want to relive experiences on consoles from the 8 bit era to as recent as Xbox, N64 and PlayStation that are increasingly hard to come by. That's one of the rumors that's going around. The other rumor is that they are planning on launching a subscription service, a Sega version of Gamepass mixed with their retro stuff and new modern games. Going back to the console rumor, they are developing enough brand new games to support a console (remember last year or so when they announced modern sequels to Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, etc). In theory, they could release a brand new console that's on the same power level as the Switch 2 or Xbox Series S (they don't need to release something as powerful as a Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X), which will make it where they earn a profit on the console (rather than losing money on consoles sold). All I know is that Sega is planning something huge. Whether it's a console or a gamepass style service remains to be seen.
The market doesn't have the space for another console and SEGA probably can't afford to keep their games locked up to 1 machine, so I can't see how a new console from them would work.
They're not gonna release another console, the same guy who want to make a cloud subscription service also doesn't want to make a new plastic box cause plastic is hazardous to his health and he don't like it.

Looks like Sega are sending mixed messages about whether they're a retro company or not with all the licensing of their old IPs and not saying they're a retro company. Us long-life Mega Drive/Saturn/Dreamcast fans don't need Sega anymore, for instance look at the Mega Drive, it's been called ''The Console That Refuses To Die'' and it has more support now than it ever had in it's initial life-span with new indie made games coming out left, right and centre and with EverDrives and plenty of other hardware and ways to play their old games just all the more cements my point that we don't need them anymore, the Mega Drive in particular will continue to thrive without them glossing over it. Go away Sega Sammy, continue to make your crappy 3D Sonic titles that barely get off the ground, keep making obscure titles digital only and remove all your old content, you're just a shadow of your former self. We don't need you anymore.
Sega could’ve just made a Sega Master System Mini (with Master System, SG-1000, Sega Mark 3, and Game Gear games) and it would sell like cupcakes in Europe and Brazil. I bet people in America would love to experience an 8-bit Sonic the Hedgehog.
It needs to sell in NA and Japan or else they're not making it. Sega doesn't get all the money from Master Systems in Brazil and Europe, only the distributor like TecToy and AtGames got those. That's why even though Game Gear and SMS were successful in those market, it counts as a failure overall cause the money doesn't go to Sega.

That's insulting for me as a hardcore SEGA fan since 1989. We are Generation-X who supported and made SEGA what it is and the biggest part of its legacy. Modern gamers barely know SEGA. I hope Chinese companies read about this and remake a NOMAD that is dedicated to play everything up the the SATURN at least.
I am a fn of their mini consoles, but I think they are right. After buying a Miyoo Mini Plus myself, I sold all my minis that I had not touched for ages, and now I am playing retro games more than ever. So, I think they are making the right choice, given most of us own such devices. I think that since these Chinese handhelds got popular and more accessible, there is less appetite every where for these minis.
Those minis are official products, and for a lot of people are shelf decoration but that is also functional too with a decent selection of games (and emulated by M2 I believe). So I think they are quality and worth it for many people, but not everyone. I bought them and I’ll be keeping them. I no longer have the original hardware and it’s the next best thing in many ways.
SEGA are right, In the sense of the word “retro” they are NOT a retro company. Retro means something NEW made to look OLD. Retro is inspired by the old school. Things that used to be. Shovel knight is a proper retro game. Made to look old using today’s tech. So no, they really aren’t a retro company. I never say I’m a retro gamer. I’m an old-school gamer.
Yet Sega is making Metaphor: Re-Fantazio, a new game and IP made to look like an old game or IP (Persona). This game is basically Persona without calling it Persona.
Really wish they didn't use the mythical "modern gamer/audience" lingo As if to say that newer players wouldn't play an established ip, i mean does sega think they are dumb or something?
they got no plans for minis? Right Myaecade is coming out with sega mini players in 2025/2026 They rather license out actual hardware to other companies and sell their games digitally Delisted those games, because they will probably add some kind of new service or bundle.
I mean that's fair on Sega's part. They were kind of pigeonholing themselves as such a company. Though they still have Atlas and Sammy???? I don't know what Sammy brings to the table... I know what Atlus does, and that's apparently STRICTLY PERSONA (TECHNICALLY SHIN MEGAMI). Oh and now Catherine. Other than that Sega seems to really be JUST SONIC.
I dunno. Sonic is actually still _shockingly_ popular, considering the decades of mediocrity since his hey day. The gap really has no business being as close as it is, but somehow Sonic is hanging in there.
@ I think the popularity of the movies have given the brand a huge bump the last few years. Before that, when it was just games, Sonic was the king of 6 out of 10 slop.
Companies like nintendo are a little more obvious because of their online service but I think the minis are done in part because we can hack them so easily. I'll never buy a genesis mini anyway since I have 40 of those games on my snes classic now.
I think alot of companies have seen what Nintendo have done with a subscription service. That regular revenue is what they are after. Why sell a one off piece of software and a few years do more work and release another one off piece of software (to justify someone rebuying the same games) when you can just put it behind a paywall and leave it there. That’s what they are after, that revenue can be massive.
They saying they’re not doing retro mini consoles anymore I wonder maybe with the success of Sonic The Hedgehog movie with hen having three movies now and a tv mini series they think it’s enough but, watch once they need that money again they’ll go and make a surprise Sega SG-1000 Mini and or a Sega Master System Mini just know there ain’t gonna be a Sega Saturn Mini or Sega Dreamcast Mini anytime soon in the next five years heck i should say 10 Years for both those but you know a lot can happen in 5 years so I wouldn’t be surprise if they secretly dropped the SG-1000 Mini and Master System Mini in another 5 years and that’s all I’m really waiting for because shoot I already have both Saturn and Dreamcast working in my gaming room so it, definitely ain’t no wish list for me in the next 5-10 years for the Saturn Mini and Dreamcast Mini sorry folks the heads of what’s currently Sega just don’t give a f**** anymore because, they knew both console systems failed and the Dreamcast honestly wasn’t really a failure in hardware because they were planning to add-On a dvd player to it later but, most people in U.S. and Japan were just really like nah I’ll wait until the year 2000 for that PS2 release which is still today the most and best selling console of all time is pretty krazy to this day! 🎮
With one statement he is slapping a huge swath of SEGAs fans and customers, potential customers in the face. He should have been asked what is a modern audience, 20 and younger?
Sega can just make 2 Yakuza or Like a Dragon games each year and do fine for another decade. But… they should do an all Sega Smash Bros game with solid online play, and should revamp the Outrun series as a proper arcade racer. They say they’re not a retro company but they’re making new Shinobi, and they always drop mini junk. Give us a mini Saturn with Knights, Sonic, the Capcom fighters, Biohazard, and the Japan only Phantasy Star remakes with translations.
Sega usually never has it completely right lmao. Nintendo isnt go GUYS WE MAKE N E W MARIO GAMES and then delete all the NES games they had available lmao
With these times of f*c**ng digital copies why they dont create sort of dreamcast 2 ... 100% online, partnership with Microsoft and Valve for the included store? I dont get it.
To be honest, I'm not all that excited about Sega's future. But I could be wrong. Also, the Chinese have been stealing U.S. IPs for decades, so it's okay, right? 😄😄😄

Sega: we hate money
SEGA are right, In the sense of the word “retro” they are NOT a retro company. Retro means something NEW made to look OLD. Retro is inspired by the old school. Things that used to be. Shovel knight is a proper retro game. Made to look old using today’s tech. So no, they really aren’t a retro company. I never say I’m a retro gamer. I’m an old-school gamer.
Yet Sega is making Metaphor: Re-Fantazio, a new game and IP made to look like an old game or IP (Persona). This game is basically Persona without calling it Persona.
@@VOANand i bet yall would say the same thing about project century calling it yakuza game 💀
Fine. Modded Dreamcast with SD card it is for my next console. If Sega wont give me a DC mini then I'll make my own.
So it also based on those statements that Sega wont be coming to Evercade anytime soon
when White Fact LongWu hits $1.99 on the eshop I will give it a go
black man: wutang def comedy jam
The real sega fan boy wants a new console new games
We do need a Saturn and Dreamcast mini though
Dreamcast 2 It’s Still Thinking 2.5.25
Yes let’s do the same thing we did in the 90s and come out with a console in a saturated market and doom the brand again.
Really sega ? How hard is it to make a shell of a Saturn and dreamcast and dump some roms on it ? It’s pretty much like printing money
Really wish they didn't use the mythical "modern gamer/audience" lingo
As if to say that newer players wouldn't play an established ip, i mean does sega think they are dumb or something?
I got my emulator screw their minis , mine is hacked an collecting dust
I dont know why but i got a feeling that sega might make another console, which i hope happens
They want to take all old stuff away and just make it digital so we can loose the future for goid so theumy can make bank on everything. It sucks.
they got no plans for minis?
Right
Myaecade is coming out with sega mini players in 2025/2026
They rather license out actual hardware to other companies and sell their games digitally
Delisted those games, because they will probably add some kind of new service or bundle.
Its sad like nintendo i grew up with sega considering i never owned any sega consoles😢
Sega is now coming to Myarcade, not sure what that means
SEGA does what Nintendon't
might be a good idea to buy it, china will probably get it kicked off the store for infringement. it'll be a collectable, albeit digital.
Please do a video playing that Wukong knock off
I mean that's fair on Sega's part.
Where's china's internet rage when they copy literally every popular thing from around the world...lol
Sega is delusional. They still think Sonic is as big as Mario.
I want an sms mini. Somthing magical about that system to me.
Companies like nintendo are a little more obvious because of their online service but I think the minis are done in part because we can hack them so easily. I'll never buy a genesis mini anyway since I have 40 of those games on my snes classic now.
Please give us Master System mini, Saturn mini and Dreamcast mini.
What harm is it to sell old games on Steam for 5-10 bucks? How can you not move forward with that? Yet youre still making Sonic the Hedgehog movies.
Thanks.
"Modern audiences" Dam...
With one statement he is slapping a huge swath of SEGAs fans and customers, potential customers in the face. He should have been asked what is a modern audience, 20 and younger?
Sega: GOODBYE!🎉
I’ll take a new golden axe.
FOMO is real.
Sega sucks. The company has sucked for a very long time now. I have no trust or faith in them.
With these times of f*c**ng digital copies why they dont create sort of dreamcast 2 ... 100% online, partnership with Microsoft and Valve for the included store? I dont get it.
Pixel, can you ask Hyperkin about Mega 95? 🙏🏻
R.i.p sega
The Chinese…hahha. Ridiculous
To be honest, I'm not all that excited about Sega's future. But I could be wrong. Also, the Chinese have been stealing U.S. IPs for decades, so it's okay, right? 😄😄😄
China mad about knockoff and copyrights Please stop I am dying of laughter. XD
