I caught my PB largemouth bass on this OLD SCHOOL combo!

- This week on the Retro Bassin' Show, my buddy Brandon and I hit Lake Travis outside Austin, Texas, in search of some post-spawn largemouth bass. We throw everything from the Banjo Minnow to the pre-Rapala Storm Wiggle Wart, but all the fish come on an OG Bass Magic swimbait. Watch till the end to see me catch my PB largemouth bass on an old school Abu Garcia baitcasting combo! This one gets wild!!

those bass magic swimbaits used to come with a couple of screw lock swimbait weighted hooks in the pack . some times they are real fish catchers

I just turned 36 and my friend Charlie just turned 63 I just recently rebuilt that same reel for him.
That is a legitimate tank! I'm in a hotel in Oak Ridge, TN, thanks to our friend Terry Battisti, and for the first time this weekend am getting a chance to watch this episode. All I can say is "WOOHOO! Way to go bassin' bud!" Looks like you and Brandon had a great day on the lake with you boating that lunker. So cool that you got it on video and shared it with everyone. That rod and reel combo did the job, no doubt about it.

You can check if your scale is reading right by measuring a dumbbell (or any known weight i.e. 3lbs of ground beef) in a plastic bag

Love them pistol grip rods I’ve got an old hank Parker rod and abu reel I still use today and you are one of the very few people I see with stickers all over their windshield I’ve got mine cover in them to on a fisher 1600 with a 50 mercury love it!!!!!!! And keep it up 👍👍🎣🎣

I keep my old school spring load zebco pocket scale in my vest pocket. It even has the pull out ruler like the model you have. Pretty handy and works great.
I have mine too. I actually have the small and large size but the tape measure on the small one no longer works. They're both very accurate.

I have an abu Garcia that has 1972 the year I was born imprinted on the reel seet. It's red with fake pearl? Handles. I got it from a long deceased guy in Texas just because I scanned some pictures for him back in our webtv days before most of us had computers and TH-cam hadn't been invented yet. It was during the days that Napster was big.
It is a 5500 series reel.
Ah, still recall downloading “free” songs at U of Delaware…

Congrats on a big fish. I like your channel and it's awesome to see you get on a big fish old school! I like the video style of just going out with a selection of old school lures trying to get on some fish.
Very nice fish brother congrats. I'd guess between 5-6 pounds but it's hard to tell on camera, they always look smaller on camera. I've caught 11 bass over 5 pounds this year out of loch Raven resevoir in Maryland so u can trust my opinion

Kinda looks like a wide angle shot. That could have something to do with it too.
You will not beat those Ambassaduer reels. I use that same reel on giant catfish all the way down to crappie
Congratulations on a personal best! I used to live in that area (Round Rock) and fished Travis quite a bit. I also lived near Canyon Lake and my personal best came from there. I’ve lived in MO for the last 4 years and haven’t broke 4 lbs since I moved here. Love your channel.

I have a pair of the Abu Garcia S series round reels.went to a local fleamarket and picked up a bag of bass assassin 7 in flatworm in the color yellow with black dots I enjoy watching your videos and was wondering if you would want them?

Awesome Bass
Hey retro bassin I found a lure at an auction it has the storm inset yellow eyes it is shaped like a hot n tot but it has a plastic bill. It has reflective straps that are tear drop shaped in the sides and on the bill. It don't have any writing on it. I don't know what it is hoping you can help me out. Thanks.

Ill say to those saying it didnt look 7 in the video, go pros make the fish look smaller. The pics make it look like a 6 to 7 easy and im sure its on the 7 end. Ive caught so many in that range i generally can tell before i weigh them lol. Ive actually been stuck in that range for a couple years trying to break 8lbs and my pb 😂.

I’ve reeled in a lot bass on that same old Abu Garcia. For alot of years in was the best bass fishing reel offered.
