  • With miles to travel everyday on the ranch, a reliable source of transportation is needed. Something fast and easy that can be ready at a moments notice. For us that is the Gator. Unfortunately, it is currently out of commission with a bad water pump, come with us as we take a look at why the John Deere Gator is so important to the ranch, get it running again and back to work.

    Those were great inventions. I was just about to buy a new 4 wheeler when my friend showed me, and let me test drive his new Honda Pioneer which is similar to a Gator. I now use that every day. The dump bed is filled with tools, chainsaws and supplies.

    Mike you missed the perfect opportunity, you should've called the episode; 'Gator-Aid.'
    Tip for if you need to do something like that again, take the wheel or wheels off, if using a lift. Makes getting in to do things easier, even if only giving a little extra space, plus getting arms, hands and elbows in the right angles to use wrenches manipulate parts is just that little bit easier and less frustrating.

      The Gator uses a Oeticker CV boot clamps. Go to SuperATV to pickup the correct CV boot clamp pliers.
      Regular CV boot clamp pliers will bend in your hand, as the material JD uses for their CV boots is a very dense type of plastic.
      For less than 50.00 you can pickup a high quality set of CV boot clamp pliers that will not bend!!

      So I talked to the john deere dealership, they told me I am luck if I get 12K miles out of this engine. I will probably end up replacing the engine on this one before getting a new one. Thanks Chase - Mike

    Why would you buy such an expensive and quite small vehicle (even though I find it very useful) rather than a decent used truck with a bed on it for half of the price ?

    • @markmortensen4341
      @markmortensen4341 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jazko -I take it you haven't been in a farm or ranch of you all that question? Expensive at the time maybe but the work it does, the fuel it doesn't use and the tracks that it doesn't make, are just a few reasons that people put up the money to have one of these even at that high price! That dumpbed he has made it a higher price but it makes it more versatile and saves a Mike's back I'm sure. If you watch many farm or ranch channels you will see a lot of these vehicles and I'm sure by watching it will answer your question. 😁

    Gracious! That was almost a whole tear down! I have yet to figure out why they make parts like water pumps,alternators,starters and fuel pumps so hard to get to! I have seen my husband literally inside a motor just to get to a part on a bulldozier or backhoe...lol! Thing is he loved doing it...lol! Thanks for sharing!

      They make it hard that way so you are inclined to go to John Deere for service. They do the same exact thing in their forestry segment.

    Good quick, informative, sober, mature look at the Gator 825i.
    Mine is a 2017, 875 hours, almost 9,000 miles, rural New Hampshire. About to change for first time the drive belt, timing belt w/ tensioner, coolent. I'm 71, retired after 47 years as Master tech with Mercedes and BMW. So your video was a primer to some preventative maintainence. Thanks for your time, farm SAFE 💚✌️👍🇺🇲

    Yep, that's much cheaper, safer, faster and more comfortable than two $6,000 hay burners. And still you wouldn't have the spotlight & headlights. :-) Not to mention the dry windbreaker cab. Horses do have a dump feature but it just ain't the same function. :-)
