i agree, but what changed my opinion of him was that radio interview when he was playing with his band. the interviewer simply brought up his acting career and he turned into a complete prick. wouldn't answer any question on any subject and apparently showed everyone his true colors.

Slingblade is one of the most underrated, fantastic movies ever. My boyfriend at the time turned me onto it and I just loved it. 15 years later, I made my husband watch it. It's surreal and gripping. Really makes you feel for the characters.
Robert Duvall's character is one I wished had a few more lines, kind of, but thinking about it maybe that would've changed the movie. I just wished he would've elaborated some more on his feelings. Specifically, toward his son Karl, and the killing of his wife, and also her cheating on him with Jessi kind of thing:)
My husband orders in the drive thru with Karl's voice! He always ends up with 5 or 6 people trying to look out the drive thru window at him! One of the new classic movies 👌😁

Probably the most incredible performance by an actor I have ever seen. Small budget film with some amazing actors and a story that had you mesmerized from the opening shot. I just knew that little boy was going to grow up to be a fine actor.
I grew up in rural Ohio so the film just hit extra hard for me as an adult. The uncut grass, the poorly paved roads, decrepit structures, that one gas station, that one food place, that one gay guy, that one rich family, the salt of the earth hardware folks. It's either a place you leave and never return (like I did) or a place you're buried where you were born. There's something eerie and unsettling about a town like that. It's depressing in the most beautifully abstract way while it's inhabitants are unaware of it. Dwight Yoakam's character was especially chilling having grown up around women beating, blue collar drunks who chain smoke in their trailers and slam MGD's. As a filmmaker myself, it can be extremely difficult to portray what you intend to be portrayed. Not only does BBT perfect it with this film, it ends up being incredibly thought provoking and self reflective, and it STAYS with you even after 20 years. Truly a one of a kind film.
I watched this interview 20+ years ago when it first came out. I remember being amazed that Thornton developed the Carl character while standing in front of a mirror. Then wrote the screenplay in nine days. Truly a talented storyteller and actor.

It was on TV at the time so we watched it together. He couldn't believe his eyes. He didn't recognize Billy Bob Thornton at all and it's been one of are favorite films forever. So we just purchased it on DVD. Watching it again after so many years later was epic. Sling Blade had such an impact on both of us because of Billy Bob Thornton's performance was so incredible. He was nominated for two Oscars and won for Best Adapted Screenplay but I will never understand how he didn't walk away with the best actor award. He wrote, directed and stared in one of the greatest films we both have ever seen in our lives. Sling Blade!!!🖤🖤🖤

Billy Bob Thornton is a true artist, and that is borne from his complete honesty with the story and characters in his writing. I am completely puzzled by the fact that I am in my 50's and a character movie buff, but I only managed to discover "Slingblade" last year after watching this interview on "The Actors Studio" series. There are beautiful performances in this movie that I am glad to have had the chance to experience.
A few years ago they were recording an episode of NCIS New Orleans next door to me. My number one goal was to meet Lucas Black and to get his autograph on a copy of Sling Blade. Brazen me walks straight up in the makeup tent where he was and he welcomed me. I was carrying a red canvas bag and he said what are you got for me and I pulled out a copy of sling blade and he said Wow! this was great for my career. He then pulled the sleeve out of the case and signed it and the DVD as well, so I got two autographs that day He was as welcoming as anyone could be!
He is the greatest leading character ever. I will go to my grave convinced of that. How they robbed him of that Oscar is just bewildering. Someone had to have gotten paid off.

WOW... when you get chills from 10 seconds of a video you know its something special. Man that is incredible. To this day I am confused how that man is sling blade. Amazing.
Billy Bob Thornton is a true artist, and that is borne from his complete honesty with the story and characters in his writing. I am completely puzzled by the fact that I am in my 50's and a character movie buff, but I only managed to discover "Slingblade" last year after watching this interview on "The Actors Studio" series. There are beautiful performances in this movie that I am glad to have had the chance to experience.
He's got the best smile ever, not a bad actor either

A few years ago they were recording an episode of NCIS New Orleans next door to me. My number one goal was to meet Lucas Black and to get his autograph on a copy of Sling Blade. Brazen me walks straight up in the makeup tent where he was and he welcomed me. I was carrying a red canvas bag and he said what are you got for me and I pulled out a copy of sling blade and he said Wow! this was great for my career. He then pulled the sleeve out of the case and signed it and the DVD as well, so I got two autographs that day He was as welcoming as anyone could be!
Billy Bob Thorntons talent is unreal. So much respect
He is the greatest leading character ever. I will go to my grave convinced of that. How they robbed him of that Oscar is just bewildering. Someone had to have gotten paid off.

This man literally made me cry during the entire damn movie. I wanted him to be OK, but by the end, I totally understand why he did what he did at the end. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS character of his...it's so AMAZING to have made me feel like like that... cuz it's a damn movie!! It is GENIUS.
