The two happiest days in a pool owners life. One: the day it's bullt completed and you can go for the first swim. Two: the day you find someone to buy your house in spite of the pool. When I contracted for ours in 1983 I thought to myself, what an absolutely huge attraction for when we sell. Oh man, 90% of would be buyers walked out the second they laid eyes on the pool. I was shocked. We're in Illinois so the reality is we only got 5 months or so of use per year out of ours. It was a ton of fun but also an amazingly expensive undertaking. The pool was maybe 10 to 15% the size of this monster, but still cost about 50K way back then. Then you throw in landscaping, pool toys, the winter cover, etc. It's a huge expense. The electric bill alone on this thing has to be off the charts. It's a gorgeous project for sure, but unless you have oodles of dough....and carry a huge amount of liability insurance, a pool in Illinois is a really bad idea. LOL
After watching this video in awe, like most....Being mesmerized by the scale of it .. I started to read the comments and seeing the owner only kept the house for a year after the pool was complete....how could this be?.... seems after the glamour and excitement wore off rather quickly....and owner realized what he built was just a huge magnet for freeloading random people coming over all the time and the liability of some random neigborhood child falling and drowning in that pool... somthing like this could very well and easily split apart and ruin that entire family. My god what have I done... and now I'm trapped by a million dollar build. I gotta sell this thing as fast as possible to try and save the family fortune and his children's inheritance.... haha just my negative 2 cents
@@Zorloft7 It's no joke man. I put a nice (nothing even close to this monster mini lake) built in pool in our year in 1983. My lawyer advised me to always carry 2 million in blanket liability as long as I remained in that house. Anything that happens, no matter what is always the fault of the homeowner. Then there's the freeloaders. It's sickening how many people come out of the woodwork when you put a nice pool in. They eat your food, drink your beer and the best you can a hope for is a thank you. Then comes the real shock. When we went to sell that house after our new one was complete, 80% of the people who walked in and loved the house, saw the in ground pool and turned around and walked right out. They're a huge liability when you live a state like mine. You get to use it for maybe 4 months of the year and pay for it year round with all the expenses. Never again unless I move to a state where it can be used 65 days a year. Even then, I'm saying no to every freeloader. Edit to correct: I made a rather rude comment at the end of my initial post. Uncalled for. I'm sure the family that had this pool installed is still enjoying life maybe just with a slightly smaller pool. I did the math and I think if I'm correct, they could have fit 10 or 11 of my pools into that one they built in California. LOL Being inCalifornia, the house likely sold for a great price and they probably made out well. Or who knows, maybe they have an even bigger pool now. Either way, the guy Jeremy is doing things right to be able to live this lifestyle and that always deserves a congrats. He's a young guy and obviously very successful. Hope the family is doing well wherever they went. There, now I feel like an adult again. Cheers all
@@stratolestele7611 Oh man I just saw a YT video about a bunch of people in Texas that put in some gorgeous pools that are now having major structural issues. It appears a bunch of concrete companies were delivering product to the jobs with concrete missing a key ingredient to prevent cracking. Not just surface cracks, but the kind that eventually go all the way through the concrete. Many were issued order to completely demolish their pools and have the debris removed from their properties. The quotes were 150K to 170K just for demo. My heart ached for them. Mnay of the pool installer and concrete companies claimed BK and thus left the homeowners hanging and on the hook. Very sad story. I know if that would have happened to me right now, it would have ruined me financially. Good thoughts out them. I hope it all works out. It appears there are like 250 to 300 people who were hit by this. The ironic part is, the ingredient in the concrete is some type of ash which prevents these swelling cracks. It appears there was a shortage of it during that time span and the concrete companies just mixed batches sans the specific ash and that led to this disaster. OUCH
