    I think these two were the best at portraying Anne and Henry, they captured the essence of them, also the costumes and settings are wonderful

      What about the Tudors series?

    • @gunnarthorsen
      @gunnarthorsen 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Acdragonrider Videos "The Tudors" was filled with inaccuracies, taking liberties with even the costumes of the period. Henry VIII often appears wearing clothes from the time of Elizabeth 1st, and Sir Thomas More was shown wearing the chain of office of Chancellor of England when Cardinal Wolsey, the actual chancellor, was standing right beside him. More was given the honor after Wolsey died. Anne of the Thousand Days is faithful to the historic record on many levels, and portrayals of the main "characters" in this sad tale are well done. Acting, cast, sets, costumes, music - superb! My apologies to Lady Violet, but I respectfully disagree that Henry and Anne had "an historic love". Henry was a self aggrandizing pig, Anne either a dimwitted or scheming royal wannabe who had no problem canoodling with a married man. They loved each other for personal gain, Henry wanting a male heir and she wanting a crown; any historic aspect to that love was played out in the lives of countless people who were caught in their web.

      @@gunnarthorsen Anne of the Thousand days also has many inacurracies, dude. Costumes - French hoods always had a veil, Anne wouldn't be seen without it, some dresses are iffy too. And regarding if they loved each other only for their personal gain - it's just speculation. None of us were there and none of us knows for sure, especially since historical sources are often very biased.

    So beautiful! You put together the beginning of their relationship so well. The story of Anne and Henry is so captivating and she was such a brave spririt that it is not hard to believe that she kept Henry VIII at bay for six years. Thank you for the great video and I look forward to more videos just like this one!

    I agree with you! The end of this couple's story is so tragically sad. :'(
    Thanks! When I decided to start with the "you shall dance to my tune, mistress!" scene, the dancing sequence with Anne and Percy seemed to be the ideal choice for the dynamic music and at the same time it echoed the quote .^^

      Just found this comment from 4years ago, it was a movie, the words Anne said were in the script written 400 years later when history shows her daughter Elizabeth became queen. I can not believe people actually think she would have uttered these exact words, some writer in the mid 20th century wrote them for this movie....

    I love this video, Geneviene is a such a wonderful actress she played perfectly Anne and I think Natalie Dormer too. these two women are my favorites Annes....and also i think Geneviene had those captivating and sensual dark eyes that Anne Boleyn also had. The Other Boleyn Girl i did not like the way they portrayed Anne they portrayed her like an ambitious bitch, If you watch The Other Boleyn Girl and if you are a fan of Anne Boleyn probably you would not like it...

      @carolinesa91 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. Portman looks more like Anne than Natalie, but the story of that movie is so distorted and historically inaccurate that it's cringy to watch. They made Anne an evil opportunist and her sister a saint, whereas her sister was the mistress of the King of France before becoming mistress of Henry.

  • @ProudKansan08
    @ProudKansan08 13 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    @funnyygirl9, I disagree with Natalie Dormer.Maybe if they put some dark contacts on her, I probably would of warmed up to her.Anne Boleyn had those flashing black eyes, and Natalie Dormer had BLUE! For some reason, that was a thorn in my side.And I didn't like the way she moved her mouth.I've seen Natalie Dormer in other things that I liked her in, but I prefer Genevieve Bujold, if I had to pick between the two of them.

    Queen Katherine had red hair and blue/green eyes. Anne had very long black hair, with dark brown eyes. Film rarely gets that correct.

    • @LadyViolet7
      @LadyViolet7  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're right, Katherine's looks are seldom depicted right. The most accurate representation I have seen so far is Annette Crosbie in "The Six Wives of Henry VIII"(1970). She has Katherine's pale skin, blue eyes, red hair. That Anne Boleyn had black hair is a myth popularized by Nicholas Sander, who was 6 years old when she died and never actually saw her. What he wrote about her was pure Catholic propaganda of the meanest sort. The portraits and representations that have been judged to bear the closest resemblance to the historical Anne-including the National Portrait Gallery painting or the Hoskins miniature-show her with auburn hair. Her dark brown eyes are often, but not always depicted right.

    • @molarmama32
      @molarmama32 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LadyViolet7 Wait? What is wrong with long black hair? Some of the greatest beauties in history have had very dark hair.
      I have long black hair, with large, brown, sloe eyes and I have many male admirers.

    • @LadyViolet7
      @LadyViolet7  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      molarmama32
      I'm sorry, there must be a misunderstanding. There's absolutely nothing wrong with black hair. I love dark hair, I think it's beautiful! But during the Renaissance era, the era Anne Boleyn and Nicholas Sanders lived in, black hair wasn't a good attribute at all. There existed a superstition that black hair was a satanic sign. I know, it's outrageous, it's exemplary nonsense! But unfortunately many people believed this. Isn't it strange that the only source that called Anne black-haired was a Catholic propagandist named Nicholas Sanders, who was 10 years old when Anne died, never actually saw her and was clearly out to make Anne sound as witch-like as possible, with an extra finger, a huge wart, and other deformities that would have made it impossible for her to be considered as Henry's new wife. Do you believe Anne Boleyn looked like a witch and had six fingers? Do you believe Henry VIII would have married an ugly witch with huge warts and other deformities? I certainly don't and that's why I don't believe a word Sanders wrote and there's not a single person from Anne's lifetime who confirmed Sander's description of Anne. The only reliable description of her hair comes from George Wyatt, the famous poet, who had once been in love with her. Wyatt called Anne in one of his poems brunette and not black-haired. If you would like to read the original sources that give information about Anne's appearance, I can give you helpful links. I absolutely agree with you that some of the gretaest beauties in history have had black hair and I do not doubt that you have many male admirers, since dark hair and dark eyes are very attractive. Like you, Anne Boleyn had very beautiful dark brown eyes who sometimes appeared black and there are reliable sources from her lifetime who confirm that. But with her hair it's different. The only statements come from Wyatt and Sanders and they contradict themselves and one of them didn't know her in person. The most authentic portraits of Anne Boleyn show her with auburn hair and darkbrown eyes. If you are interested in these portraits I could share them with you. Feel free to ask for primary source material anytime. I have tons of information about Anne Boleyn, since I am writing a book about her and am always willing to share.
      Regards,
      Corinna

      LadyViolet7 Thank you very kindly. Point of fact in college (1970-74), I was cast as AB in our student production. I wish we had been left an accurate portrait of Anne. The auburn hair "look" can be deceiving. As my hair in
      bright sunlight looks like it has an auburn cast, but in interior lighting, it looks off-black,
      not blue-black or absolute black as you would find in Asian populations.
      Have Anne's remains ever been disinterred?

    I absolutely loathe Anne the historical figure but I ADORE Genevieve Bujold and her portrayal of Anne, she is super cute!!

      @@wengercleopatra2150 henry was horrible but Anne was not innocent either. She kept on driving a wedge between Henry and Mary and encouraged Catherine and Mary’s mistreatment. The fact is: all wives of Henry VIII had a plain beauty. Some of them weren't even beautiful but ugly women as Anna de Cleves (and they cast Joss Stone as Anna to The Tudors!) This is the main innacuracy of those movies portraying the Queens; all the actress who perform as any of them on movies or tv series are way better looking than the original wives.
    Neither in dreams Anne Boleyn was so good looking as Genevieve Bujold. For shure she wanted to be! She was a charming and sedutive flirtatious woman not a "beautiful" one. None of them was. There' is NO historic record on they being exactly 'beautiful'.
    No one ever filmed that properly. It is a shame.

      We can't say that Ann of Cleves wasn't pretty... she just obliterated Henry's oversized ego , and thus was labeled as such. Why would people like Cromwell or Holbein make such a claim , and remove themselves from the king's goof graces ? What had happened was a tradition gone wrong , in which Henry , in disguise went to visit Ann of Cleves when she was on her way to the castle. The expectation was that the woman would identity the king beneath the disguise and fall in love with him. She didn't and found the monstrous man , who she didn't know was the king, quite revolting.

    He ordered her execution, so much of a love 😂😂😂 He only want a woman who wasn't at menapouse from a weak english family(one who would br his subjects, trying to annul his marriage with Catherine taught him that lesson) who he can use as a scapegoat and put all the blame of his actions if the woman proved to be worthless(by not bearing male heirs). That was it 😂😂 the rest is over romanticizing and Elizabeth I 's propaganda. + greensleeves had nothing to do with Anne or Henry, historically inaccurate rubbish it is what this movie is.

      It's Hollywood. You can't expect a 100% accurate version. This is a well-done film with great costumes and fabulous acting. The story may not be 100% historically accurate and possibly a bit overromanticized but I don't think there is a movie/TV version about Boelyn and Henry that isn't. Though it isn't entirely accurate calling it rubbish is harsh criticism that the film does not deserve. It never claimed to be an exact replica of what happened. And I don't think that many people go in to watch the film expecting a history lesson.

      And the series The Spanish Princess was the worst series in history. Do you think Henry loved Catherine at first sight. No, of course, Henry was ten years old .. Would you believe Catherine's rubbish. In the series, they made Catherine a prostitute. And they made her sleep with Arthur. And you hate it. Her daughter. In the end, my daughter says the future of England. But her bloody daughter has destroyed England. There is no trash except the story of Catherine and Henry historical garbage. Sorry about my bad English.
