This is a historic win because Steve McQueen is the first black filmmaker ever to win Best Picture at the Oscars!

I love what Brad Pitt said about being equal and free. I hope one day to be equal free as an actor in Hollywood like the cast members of 12 years of slave.I my self have gone though my own type of slavery. Its has benn 12 years for me in the United States of America and i still have no freedom to audition and be a well standing citizen of this great country.

The questions were not very good (except the last one), but the responses from the producers effectively reinforced the significant themes and messages in the film -- dignity for all, universal connection among humans, freedom and justice for all, etc. And I love it when Steve McQueen signals to Jeremy Kleiner to answer at the end. 12 Years a Slave is impeccable!

For her to say his story is not important now is a mistake. African Americas are still being killed and treated inhumanly because of our race so the comment she made is ignorant and false. Solomon's story is very relevant now. I saw the movie and read the book and it will change you forever.

Wow, you totally misunderstood what she said! She said its not ESPECIALLY important today, but that its extremely important today as it was yesterday, 20 years ago, 100 years ago and in 100 years time. Its importance is universal and timeless. She wasn't minimizing its current importance at all!
