    Great video. I just recently started having an issue with my action lever sticking, this gives me a clear way to disassemble my gun and try to find the issue.

    I own a TriStar 12 gauge over under, and it literally shattered into pieces inside. It was my very first over under to see if I like them and this was a bad experience. I guess I must’ve got the bad one because it literally lasted 200 rounds and that was it. I did call TriStar and wanted to speak to a manager and never got that call. It took TriStar eight months to send me the parts I needed. I needed both pins, both hammers that got in dented, and this weird little spring inside of it that ended up busting. I guess you get what you pay for. Not messing with it anymore and decided just to get me a better over under. Great video buddy good luck with your shotgun.

    Thank you for doing this video! I just spoke with tristar this morning they are sending me a replacement lower firing pin for the one that broke, and I also had them send me a new upper firing pin they cost 12.00 plus shipping. Firing pin broke after approximately 1000 rounds by the way!

      Tri Star sent a company memo to another shooter who had firing pin problems and they said these pins are not designed for more then 200 shots a year for more then ten years. Seems pretty weak on Tri Star's part. Might be okay for pheasant or grouse season, forget it for clay sports. @@captainluke562

    I just got a 20ga and the receiver is different than yours. There is now screw in the center for the firing pin plate. I have cleaned it but now am considering taking it back down again and cleaning those firing pin holes. Haven't shot it yet either. Thanks for the video.

      I would take the gun apart as few times as possible. The metal quality it not the greatest. But us a good idea to clean out those holes for sure.

      Hello, the receiver with no metal insert plate is probably the Setter Model that is a solid steel receiver. Will last a lot longer than the aluminum receiver! I’ve had both and the Hunter Models (aluminum receivers) will start showing much more wear even after only 250-300 shots. Still great and fun guns for the price.

    Thanks for the good info on replacing the pins. Yes, these are not high quality parts. ON this model, I have a problem with the transfer block not engaging the sears. Any idea why?

      Tri Star is very generous with sending free stuff out , I bought an Upland 12 g from Wal-Mart it was missing 2 of the chokes no case or key, they sent me the whole box and case for free, and laughed when I said WalMart. The guy replied .... Hey Don't get me started on WalMart blunders. Thier whole system stinks. I went looking for the team manager found him stocking the diaper shelves. Last Gun I will buy from WM ever

    Do you need to take out the extractors of the Tristar Setter and clean them? Or is that only a concern with ejectors. If so how do they come out?

  • @kiotick25

    I have the 20ga in this gun, my trigger sear appears way too loose and falls back when aiming upwards, disengaging the hammers so they won't fire, thoughts on ideas why this is. I feel like there should be more material inside the slot of the trigger sear to prevent it from falling back on the safety tang it is connected to.??

    I know this is goin sound like a stupid question but I just bought a tri star setter s/t 20ga I own a lot of different guns but never owned or shot a over / under shotgun my question is do you put the barrel selector switch on the letter of the barrel do you want to shoot or do you put it so the weather is exposed I want to set my gun up so the bottom barrel fires first

    I have a problem with the pin that holds the lever open & it will not return to center. Probably a fragment is inside the receiver. I can't find instructions on what needs to be done when removing the lowest pin below the pins that hold on the firing pins. Any information would be greatly appreciated..

    Dear GunsWithGage: I watched your video on firing pin replacement for the purpose of learning how to remove the stock on my Upland Hunter. I'm having trouble could you help? First, I used the extension like you said and started turning ccw to loosen and immediately noticed there was very little resistance, almost like it had not been really tightened from the factory. So I turn the socket and turn some more and nothing happens. The socket fits snugly and is now stuck in my stock on the bolt. When I re insert the extension and connect to the socket again it just slips off when I pull it out and leaves the socket on the bolt. The receiver didn't slip off easily like I had hoped and am not sure if I did anything in the way of loosening the main bolt. Any suggestions?
    David

    I've owned a few Tri Stars. The field models don't seem to be good for repetitive firing like constant use in trap shooting or clay sports. The trap models seem to be okay. Using them for hunting where your shots are fewer and less frequent is okay. You get what you pay for. I take mine out for rainy day hunting or dog training where I lay the gun on the ground a lot while I set up and correct the dog.

      Id say get one if you are ok with throwing it away after 1k rounds. That is honestly fine. most people dont shoot that much anyway. All of the metal is just too soft to last much longer. Best bet if you want it to last a long time would be to get a big brand name gun.

      I got a Upland Hunter looks like this one I got probably 700 rounds through it shoots great .I have talked to the importer here in the US they warranty the guns for 5 years they will send the firing pins to you or you can send the gun back, nice people to talk to .Was going to get a Browning Cynergy the trigger was totally cheap to chock it was different felt loose but was going to try it then found out Browning DO NOT warranty their guns so. I have a Tristar TT15 coming tomorrow.

      @@GunsWithGage Thanks for the video to show what crap these things really are.
      $499 even in 2021 is a lot for a basically disposable shotgun.

      The tristar sporting tt models are better built than the Wal mart tristars. I have the tt15 trap over and under with roughly 2 years of of 100 shots a week through it with 0 malfunctions. Nothing but pleased with it.

    • @HockeyGoon939
      @HockeyGoon939 ปีที่แล้ว

      The model shown is a 1989 model. We have a 2018 Tristar Setter Uplander that my son used for 4H shooting sports - he ran about 4000 rounds through it and now my next son is using the same way. The only issue we had with the Tristar was the butt pad needed to be replaced with a quality one that absorbed the recoil much better.

    • @HockeyGoon939
      @HockeyGoon939 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one we own has a stainless-steel receiver with no nickel plating, that appears to be the major issue with the flaking on the OP's gun. Ours does not have any of the marring or indentations in the metal this one has from being built with soft (incorrectly heat treated?) metal. A gun used for trap or skeet shooting sees a lot of use compared to the average hunting shotgun that sees a couple boxes a year - a trap gun can easily see 30-100 boxes a year.
