    I passed my test today with two minor faults. Due to the covid backlog and my rural location and lack of instructors there, I wasn’t able to get any lessons with an instructor at all.
    I practiced with friends and family in my own car for the last 4 months since getting my provisional, and I binge watched your videos, as well as reading the Highway Code as my bedtime story.
    I was amazed and shocked after the test. Your videos helped so much, and I even had a few occasions where my dad was complaining at me for not indicating and I corrected him with information from your videos.
    Thank you so much!!

    It’s really interesting to see differences in different countries. In the UK, you only need to use the signalling in a sensible, for me, quite understandable manner. The very same goes for side looks. In Germany you are taught to even do a side look when there’s no lane, not even pedestrians next to you … well and signal for every obstacle in the road… daunting.

I’ve watched so many videos of other instructors doing these types of videos and none of them stick in my mind like yours do. The way you explain things is amazing! Im flabbergasted that the examiner passed the pupil who pulled out in front of the car who was not signalling when turning right at mini r/b! It is surely a serious or potential dangerous fault! I would not go at a mini roundabout until i am sure where the car with no signal is going! (read their position/speed) i also would not advise a learner to assume a car with no signal is going straight ahead at a mini roundabout. If instructors are advising that learners pull out when a car isn't signalling before seeing where car is going, i feel that is poor instruction.
    Highway code states no signal for intermediate exit but no signal cannot be trusted as much as a signal cannot be trusted. Signals are only useful to increase anticipation of where a car should be going, which in turn increases reaction speed.
    Great videos overall.

    I'll be moving to the UK soon and the signalling rules are going to be hard to get used to as they seem very different than here in the U.S. Here, you must always signal when you'll be changing the position of the car regardless of if you see another driver. The idea being there could always be a car you couldn't see. It's also expected you develop the habit of signaling so you do it every time. If you are making it a conscious choice you are taking more time to do it and increasing your chance of not doing it when you should. Another difference here is signaling isn't viewed as a request to let you in, it's a message to other drivers that you WILL be moving position. It's up to you to find an opportunity to do so. Sometimes people will make space and sometimes they won't but you signal at the point your intent becomes to move position. There are rules around the distance you should be signaling, you can't signal too early or too late when turning for example.

I think it would be nice with a video where you drive in traffic and juts explain where you start like brake or chabge gear and mirror signals. I seen some videos about this city and other places traffic in Sweden. Maybe can be useful at this chanel also. Thanks for all videos they really help to learn driving. • @mb3471
      @mb3471 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To accelerate faster you want to add a little more revs (gas) which enables you to lift the clutch a bit higher which in turn will accelerate you faster. Don’t lift the clutch before adding more gas as you will most likely stall.

    • @mb3471

      Try to follow the shape of the curb when making a short turn (right turn driving on the right, left turn in UK), so start steering when the front wheel is at the point where the curb bends off. For acceleration, move away with a little more gas and clutch a little higher up and gear up at higher revs.

    Regarding "missed opportunities" at roundabouts, this can also apply to turning from major to minor roads and vice-versa. I guess the same approach applies - take note of their signal but also take into account their speed and position. If for example I am waiting to turn left onto a major road from a minor one, and someone is approaching from my right and indicating to turn into the road I'm leaving, I like to wait until they have slowed down a fair bit before I move, in case they've just left their indicator on by accident or are planning to pull in or turn beyond the road I'm on.

    The rules are much different here in Latvia. The only time we aren't supposed to signal is when it could be misleading to others. In any other case we need to signal regardless of whether anyone is behind us or not. We even have to signal when turning in car parks! Like, I failed my first driving test mainly because I didn't use signals when turning in two supermarket car parks. If I would drive like you did in this video, I would fail the test in 5 minutes.
    The main reason why we have such strict requirements is that this helps drivers develop a habit of using signals, eventually improving traffic safety and reducing accidents. Some people refuse to obey (*khm khm BMW drivers*), but they're the minority and they actually tend to cause dangerous situations because of this.
    Thank you for the video! Here are some suggestions that I would like to see you talk about:
    * Overtaking other cars. Seriously, this is the single most dangerous maneuver, and yet I don't think that I have seen a video about it on this channel.
    * The accidents and what to do when it happens. In Latvia, if only two cars are involved and the damage isn't serious enough to keep them from driving, then we can fill a form describing the circumstances of the accident that both parties sign and that would allow them to get the insurance payout to cover repair expenses. If the accident is more serious and/or if someone has been injured, we need to call the police.
    * What to do when one or more of car lights don't work. Which light faults still allow driving and which ones prohibit driving entirely?
    Thank you for your videos and your hard work! They have helped me and many others when our instructors get lazy and don't explain things in detail!

      @@ConquerDriving Yes, please do a video on how to pass a slower vehicle! Especially on the highway, when you're going 70 mph, and you want to pass a truck that's going 5 mph below the speed limit. Sixth gear doesn't have much power. I know you're supposed to downshift into a lower gear to get more power. But I don't know the exact moment to downshift, and which gear to select.

    • @RusNad
      @RusNad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hamsterama In my opinion downshifting is normally not necessary on the highway unless maybe you have a 1.0L engine and if you're already going the speed limit then it's not really a problem if the difference in speed is small and it takes some time to pass. Go when there is no car catching you on the overtaking lane and move back over when you can see the car you overtook in the centre mirror. Maybe on a two way road you would need to downshift so you can overtake quickly if the gap is small or you can't see very far, but I would try to avoid overtaking in this situation and wait for a safer gap anyway until you're very experienced with the car and can downshift quickly (see the rev matching video on this channel) so you can floor it

    • @hamsterama
      @hamsterama 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RusNad Yes, that's what I'd like to know....How to downshift quickly in order to gain power when there's not much of a gap in the passing lane. This is more of a problem during rush hour traffic, not so much on the weekend. On the weekend, no need to downshift, since the are a lot fewer cars. If I drive during rush hour on weekdays, though, passing in my manual car can be scary, and I avoid doing it. When I give a lot of gas in 6th gear, it takes a while to gain speed. I'm afraid of getting rear ended. None of this is an issue when I drive my automatic transmission car, because the car (I think) automatically drops a gear during hard acceleration (at least it sure feels that way). By the way, my manual car is a 2020 Corolla hatchback. It has a 2.0 liter, 169 hp engine, and it can automatically rev match on downshifts. I don't know if the Corollas sold in the UK have the auto rev match feature, but all manual 12th generation Corollas here in the US do.

    Really great examples, good job! Also I'm curious about something Richard, I see that you have tips for many things and you think of many details, did that ever complicate driving for you, having too many things to think of? I'm currently at two months of driving and I'm trying to go 'by feeling' a bit more because I feel like I'm over-calculating/overthinking a lot and that makes me kind of a nervous driver.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You definitely have to go by feeling, but when teaching, telling someone to feel doesn't help. I give people advice and methods they can use to help develop their skills (feel). If you're feeling it, you are using your skill. A driving instructor does well when they help their pupil develop their skills.

    Great video! I have a question, and i've seen your other videos, but I'd like your opinion anyways, please. So when I'm getting close to stopped cars at a red signal, should I maybe reduce to second and approach slowly with my foot off the pedals and just let the car roll, or should I put it on neutral and let it roll? I know that downhill I should keep my car in gear, but how about when the road is somewhat flat?

    Hi Love the help. Question. When moving from 2nd lane of a dual carriageway back to lane 1, your commentary said signal left. I’m a little confused as I believe it’s ok not to signal left to return to lane 1, as it’s your normal driving lane. Also, the signal can sometimes mislead if used near the exit of a slip road as it could be interpreted as leaving.
    Would you mind clarifying this for me? Thank you.

    • @ConquerDriving

      You don't have to signal, but if there are others around you should. It can also be a good idea in case you missed someone approaching dangerously from behind.

    • @ConquerDriving

      It's not normal for the clutch to make a sound. Maybe it's the car vibrating and something buzzing as that can happen. It's also more likely to be the clutch release bearing if it is noisy which isn't really affected by riding the clutch.

    Hey Richard , got a quick question to ask you in terms of driving test.
    Would the examiner mark me down if I don’t take opportunities AFTER knowing I could have taken them. Eg this particularly happens at busy roundabouts where I’m not sure where the cars are turning but they end up going left, so then I realise I could’ve pulled out and gone but I didn’t want to take the risk. Same goes for mini roundabouts where I be extra careful because some drivers actually take U-turns , though uncommon it’s happened a lot in my experience and so I always wait for the roundabout to clear before going. Would that be marked down for hesitation even though I’m just being careful?

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You would fail if you always waited for the roundabout to be clear before you went. People do U turns sometimes but it's normally obvious as they are slow and wide. You should not do U turns on mini roundabouts especially when other vehicles are around. You be marked for hesitancy if the examiner feels you are missing easy opportunities. They don't expect you to take the opportunities that require you to accelerate harshly. You will fail if you miss multiple easy opportunities. You are expected to take an easy shield, watch my video on mini roundabouts for more information.

      @@ConquerDriving I watched your other video and it certainly helped, but I still feel uncomfortable relying solely on someone’s indicator at a big roundabout and at junctions , I always pull out to a roundabout at a steady speed so I try being very careful . Mini roundabouts are slightly easier though but here in Birmingham it’s shocking how many drivers have the nerve to U turn at them.

    With Roundabouts I get so confused with lane markings, some of them are fading, but I know that's not the main problem cos others manage it fine, and I end up drifting to the lanes I'm not supposed to be in and then coming back. I just get so confused with them. Do you have any tips to stay in your lane, especially when you can't see the road markings as well?

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  ปีที่แล้ว

      When there are no road markings you can try to divide the road up in two lanes based on the width of a typical lane but the main thing you want to do is make sure you don't hit anyone as cars won't be taking such a predicable and marked out path.
