- This webinar was recorded live on January 14, 2021 by the National Association of EMS Educators and Rob Theriault.
Description:
One thing that distinguishes textbooks from other books is that the student does not choose the textbook - the professor chooses it for them. Some describe this as a “broken market” since the professor, who chooses the book but does not pay for it, allows the publisher to set high prices for a captive audience.
With the rising cost of school and the cost of textbooks, many students choose to buy used books, share a single text, rent or buy an e-textbook or simply attempt to get by without a textbook. In this session, we will explore ways to reduce costs with open education resources (OER), curation of free resources or self-publishing. Has the time come for a new approach to learning resources?
At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
· Describe the criteria for open education resources
· List ways to assist students to reduce costs associated with learning
· Discuss what resource approach is in the best interest of the student
