    OK ...having just spent some time hooking this all up in my Ford Ranger PX2, i feel like i can give some decent feedback. Now...understand, i have no appreciable automotive qualifications or auto electrical experience.
    Pros.
    1) Really solid piece of kit....pretty much everything they say here is true, well built, feels strong in terms of the box itself. good allen key tie down screws to put the lid on
    2) Be a little careful though, the lid with all the wiring in it has a bit of weight to it and you don't want to bounce it off anything when you are taking it on and off putting battery in. Once its all screwed down though its fine to move about.
    3) the voltage indicator is nice and obvious and the DCDC charger is well bolted to the box.
    4) the install of the wiring isnt that hard. It took me longer to work out where to run it through the chassis and get it in there than it did to understand it.
    5) works well with my existing kickass battery charger.
    Mids
    1) Remember...not their fault, but you are going to need to give room for a 12v plug to poke out with clearance to your fridge. forgot that and had to move the base.
    2) the battery base is a great design in terms of screw down points, but i really would have preferred an aluminum or steel one, the plastic flexes pretty hard depending on where you are screwing it down.
    3) it sounds obvious now......(and im pretty dumb) but remember the lid goes on the box only in 1 direction to allow for the vertical Anderson slots
    Cons
    1) Not any so far really,
    The one thing i would recommend is that the crew do more video installs, show us customer or your installs on all the majors brands. ie how do you get the wiring to the back on a ranger with a canopy ? where is the right fuse on a Hilux? If you did 4 of these videos on each major Utes, you would have 80% of the market covered for self install walkthroughs your customers.. Have a table in the manual for what piggyback fuse we should buy and what slot meets the requirements (to fit and meets the 'ignition on' requirements)
    Overall ? really happy with it ! good product, solidly built........just suggesting a bit more install/product info for us newbies who are working it out as we go. (and these guys already do a lot of those sorts of videos)

    Great information. Just what I need to know as I am about to set up my 4wd for 12v power. I didn't understand exactly about bypassing the solar panel's inbuilt controller. But I get that my solar panel can be used one way or another. I will probably get a kick ass battery box etc after seeing this video.

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have another solar controller such as the MPPT in the DCDC charger you don't use the built in one on the solar panel. You bypass it and plug your solar panel directly into the solar input on the DCDC charger and it will regulate the power. Hope this helps.

    Love how this is a plug and play system basically. 2 questions : 1. In the United States I don't see the 20amp AC battery charger available. Did I miss that? 2. If I leave this plugged in all the time to charge from solar while sitting, should I install a battery isolator so it doesn't drain my starter battery if I am also using the mppt controller? Can't wait to order this.

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, our AC chargers are not available in the US just yet. As we run on 240 volt in Australia we have to build a different 120 volt version for you guys in the US.
      You should always have some sort of isolator between your start battery and your auxiliary battery. Either a VSR or more recommended a DCDC charger.

    I have a 250w (unregulated) solar panel connected to this Powerstation. The DCDC Charger showed the overcharge fault as it was getting about 24v from the panel. So how do I overcome this?
    Is my panel too big? Move panel out of direct sunlight?
    Buy a step down? or something else? 🤔Thanks again for making great products!

    Are you able to use the un-regulated solar input for my fixed panel for example, and simultaneously use the regulated input with my solar blanket and mppt charger? So I am getting charge from 2 panels (1 through the regulated port and one through the dcdc charger)

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately no, what will happen when two regulators are active is that they will "Confuse" each other. As the first regulator is in bulk charge the batteries voltage will read as around the 14.7 volt mark. The second regulator will read this voltage and consider the battery fully charged and therefore will not input anymore charge and vice versa.
      In some cases the regulators will swap turning off and on as they read each others input voltage.

    Another great video guys :) Can I ask..... I have the "old" KickAss Power Box with the Projecta DCDC Charger which I had in my old car...... I now have a brand new 2022 Toyota Fortuner and need to wire my old KickAss Powerbox up, can I buy and install the Premium Plug and Play "3 wire" Anderson Plug kit to the car from the Starter Battery and then attach that to the "2 wire" Alternator Input on my KickAss Powerbox in the rear of the car? i.e. can a 3 wire Anderson plug into my 2 wire Input in my old KickAss Powerbox? lol So many questions, you can call us and have a chat to one of our customer service agents on 07 3063 4211
      But here are the short answers to your questions.
      You can only charge from 1 source at a time. Charging from your vehicle is faster as alternators generate a much higher current.
      We only have 1 retail shop currently. We are based on the Sunshine Coast at 2 Mallet Street, Kunda Park.
      Yes You can charge via solar or vehicle while your fridge and other appliances are running. That's the whole idea.
      The DC/DC charger has an inbuilt isolator, so when you vehicle is not running it disconnects itself from your stat battery.

    I have 1996 Land Rover Defender 300 tdi and I want to run Fridge, camping shower, lighting, charge phones, laptop etc.... My car has no computer. Do I need to use blue ignition cable??? I can connect it if necessary. So that box will not drain main battery right? Thanks for great looking products!

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need to install the ignition wire but still recommend it. As long as your alternator reaches the chargers cut in voltage of 13.2 Volts the unit will sense that the vehicle is running. However it can take a few minutes for your starter battery to get back up to this voltage after ignition. The Ignition wire is usually tapped into the fuse box so that the unit will switch on straight away when you start your vehicle.
      And yes, the charger also acts as an isolator so your starter battery does not get drained.

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, It is super easy mate. It is exactly the same as a two pin plug, you just push the tabs down under the pins and then the pins will easily push out through the back of the plug. You can then cut the cable to the correct length and then crimp new terminals on.
      Check out our Anderson Connector video th-cam.com/video/kX-jQ6MQnXc/w-d-xo.html
      You will find the crimping section at 2:20

      The maximum solar input is 25amps and the maximum solar input voltage is 23VDC
      Amps x Volts = Watts
      So at max capacity the theoretical transfer will be around 575 watts.

    New to the space so please excuse the under-educated query. Assuming access to full sun, can I plug a 200w sp into this station to maintain the charge and power to your 75 litre dual zone fridge/freezer? Solar panel -> Power Station -> Fridge/Freezer. Planning to pop up to your showroom in Warana this week sometime to have gander and chat. Cheers?

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At Pmax, (which is the highest theoretical output of the solar panel) the 200 watt panel is capable of 11 amps per hour so would more then cover the draw from the fridge. However Getting the perfect conditions that result in your panels generating the maximum output is very rare.
      There are also other factors as what temperature you plan to run the fridge at and if you will be driving and charging the battery from the alternator. Short answer is that it's probably a good idea to pop in and have a chat to one of our guys.
      Showroom is at

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No Sorry, The integrated DC DC charger draws 25 amps. A cig socket can only supply 10 amps max. To charge while you are driving you need a direct connection to your vehicle's alternator (start battery). However the 120AH battery when fully charged will keep a 40 Litre fridge running for several days so if you charge from AC at home you would not need to charge when driving.

      You need to check the what the max output of the BMS is on the battery you want to use.
      Most Lithium batteries have a Max draw of between 50 and 100 amps, try to draw more then this and BMS will go into protection mode and shut down.

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do not recommend using anything over a 700 watt inverter with this battery Box. A 2000 watt inverter will draw up to 184 Amps DC when running at 100% and double that at the peak inrush. For that size inverter we always recommend that you run at least two batteries in parallel and have the inverter directly connected to this battery bank with the shortest cables possible.

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jimmy, as I advised previously, if you are using a 2000 watt inverter you will need to use a battery bank of at least 2 AGM batteries linked together in parallel.
      Running at maximum the inverter will draw up to 180 amps DC and can double that with peak inrush. Drawing this amount of current from a single battery will damage it.

    You mention a 700W inverter can be connected directly via an inverter cable but you don't mention if larger inverters can be attached in the same way. Are your 1200W or 2000W Inverters an option for direct connection via an Anderson plug also?

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Fredo,
      We do not recommend that you use anything higher than a 700 watt inverter through a 175 amp anderson plug. While a 1200 watt will only draw 100 amps at 12 volts, an inrush can spike to 200 amps. This is obviously higher then what the anderson connector is rated for.
      In most scenarios these are acceptable margins and would be safe, however as the current draw can exceed the max rating we do not recommend it and caution against it.
      As for a 2000 watt inverter. Peak inrush can exceed 330 amps DC. To handle this safely We recommend multiple batteries wired in parallel with heavy duty linking cables.

      Hi Mate, unfortunately if you have damaged the temp sensor it cannot be repaired. But good news is that as you are using 2 large capacity batteries and the maximum charge from the DCDC charger is 25 amps, the chance that the batteries will heat up is extremely low.
      You do not "need" a fuse on that part of the system. Just keep the linking cables as short as possible. Just remember at peak inflow (up to 6000 watts) you can be drawing around 550amps through these cables.
