They never used that money. Told sold everything and made TH-cam a away time afford the other trips. But they did say once that if they didn’t have the $54mi to start with, as a fall-back cushion (bc of the kids), they prob wouldn’t have done it

Well they also had $180k that he made his first year working with snapchat along with a million dollar bonus, which he mentions in part two; and when I asked similar questions as here above, it was suggested that many to most of the resorts plus other companies pay for them to come visit, it's free advertising.
I love that you documented your story and kept a journal through all of this, how cool to be able to look back and remember all of this. I scrapbook to document our lives even though they aren't half as exciting as yours.

Theres plenty of people with ideas that nobody believed in either that didn’t turn out to be good ideas and we’ve never heard of them again. I’m glad you pursued it even in spite nobody “believed” in you, but that’s just the nature of being an entrepreneur that had zero accomplishments before they had one. Crazy ! I don't know if it's a coincidence, so I need to do it....But yesterday I was talking to some people of my family that I want to develop my application (that I start thinking about since 3 years) I was so excited ! And they didn't understand why I wanted to do it, that I should focus on my medicine study than thinking about things that wouldn't work..... So it blessed me and I've get lost ( saying maybe they are right, why think about other things because I am already focus on my studies) but something in my head tell me to "go for it" and then you post this ! I think it's a sign or just an argument to push myself to do it lol. Thanks for sharing Garett and who know maybe you will use my app one day. One thing is sur is that I am going to give everything for it works, so let's see what the future have for me haha

Jade Welch From my understanding they have not touched any of the money he made from selling his app. They travel entirely using the savings they had at first, and now the money they use is what they make from TH-cam and Instagram. 😊

I remember watching a video, with his wife talking about how they were struggling to start a youtube channel and worried about whether it would go well or not. Meanwhile, they were already rich before starting their youtube channel. smh, glad you found success, but its crappy to watch a video saying you were struggling, when that is not the case at all.
You don’t know what they go through behind closed doors . Just because they had 54 million doesn’t mean they weren’t suffering . Listen and understand their full story :)

This is super random! But, what journal app do you use? I haven't found one that I have loved.
check out Notion. I love it.
I would also suggest Bear, but Notion has a free cloud sync option. they're both essentially the same thing, beautiful, fast, and really great for writing code.
I recomend zou to stick with regular Iphone note app because I used to use the leading Journaling app Flava this was back in 2011 years ago they sold the app with no warnings and all my precoua memories where gone. No leading app will protect you from that
Google the app Flava you’ll see it really was the leading Journaling app back then. And they just sold it and deleated all my noted suddenly there was a diffrent icon on the app and al notes where gone. Dont use no leading app... just regular Notes that are conected to Icloud. Of course I dad a Backup of the app but can only open it on the App which is gone.
It is so disappointing finding out they are Mormon. 🤦♂️

Hey there beautiful bucket list family!! I loooove how you raise you children an you loving and kind manner with them and between you all. I have one simple question for you and i know its hard because the world is wonderful to see: is it worth destroying the planet by flying to see it one last time in its beautiful state? I really have an issue with accepting it myself but you have to be aware that your children will not have the chance to show the world as it is now to their own children one day if humanity continues this lifestyle, and flying is the biggest part of that pollution! I remember one vlog where you, Garret, were super sad because the corals are losing its colour and you said the change is going on so fast... it is the same with every other ecosystem. I wrote my bachelorthesis about this topic and it is really frightening. So I had the earge to ask you how you can justify flying soo much with the harm it is causing to the home of Your children and future grandchildren! I hope you are looking into the topic a little bit, i dont mean to be rude or a troll or anything, just kindly trying to raise awareness! Have a lovely day and much love from Germany.
Paulina B. What pollution are you talking about? Are you saying flying emits pollution in the air? That’s pretty easily countered by growing trees.
I think the real threat is oil, gas and garbage pollution in the rivers and oceans.
The main focus needs to be directed towards countries who are not aware and don’t care.
I think our efforts need to be focused on where the biggest problem lies. If anything, air travel heightens global awareness by allowing people to travel to major problem areas, then broadcast the problem.

I don’t begrudge them their success and their lifestyle - I think it’s truly incredible. But learning this, it does make me a little annoyed that their introduction on the more recent videos describes them as “just an ordinary family leading extraordinary lives.” Being able to afford to do that by selling a company for millions of dollars means you are far from “ordinary”
Well one thing that makes them ordinary is that they, despite traveling the world, live very minimally. They live humble lives and teach their children to value the beauty of the outdoors- something that is free.
Mum, Dad and three kids, a pretty average family by family standards. Yes, they have money and can travel the world and live an extraordinary life because they have means but if you have ever travelled with kids anywhere, it’s all pretty much of a muchness for us all.
They do not use the money from Scan to travel. They sold all of their belongings for about $45,000 and used that to travel then parlayed travel, TH-cam, and other connections from that to continue to travel. So, yes, despite the windfall from selling his company, they are ordinary people who have worked hard to create an extraordinary life for their family.
His share was likely much smaller than that though. Investors tend to take a big chunk then there’s the split between cofounders. So what he got would’ve been in the 7 figure range.

They likely have drones they use for overhead shots. I don’t think they travel with a film crew.

While attending college, he built an app call scan for iPhone, but then sold it to snapchat for 54 million. He started his own company in college where he then created an app which he sold.
